Floody flashlight: help me to choose configuration

that flashlight is the same as a smallsun zy-84.

8.88 $ is cheap

I paid 7.60 before shipping

Mine isn't very exciting at all and pulls.722 on high and .23 on low ...strobe ? I expected /hoped for more pretty cheezy threads that beg to be crossthreaded .sharp edge of silver feels unfinished ..a very non-interesting light that is slated for resale .

That one ain't a smallsun zy-84. Look at them closer. I know about that smallsun but never liked the aesthetics. The devil is in the details. ;D

What will be floodier?

1) XML P60 at 2,8A

2) MCE P60 at 2,8A ( http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.39359 )

3) kaido C8 XML at 2,8A

Thanks!

I don't have all these configurations at hand but with the little experience of XM-L and MC-E, I can say MC-E on P60 is way floodier than a XML on C8 even if C8 might not be in focus. I'll try XML on P60 in a couple of weeks and expect somewhat better transition between flood and throw thanks to OP reflector and the smaller size. So, my guess is in the presence of flood,

MC-E P60 > XML P60 > XML C8

but I could prefer a P7 on a C2 body with OP reflector if I needed flood mainly. My MTE SF-15 works very well for this purpose.

What will be floodier?

1) XML P60 at 2,8A

2) MCE P60 at 2,8A ( http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.39359 )

3) kaido C8 XML at 2,8A

The c8 by design isnt expected to be very floody.

The MCE seems to be the floodiest but i would pick the XM-L instead. Said that i have no experience 1st hand from all of them just acquired knowledge by reading around.

Probably the XM-L p60 is the safest bet and you migh play a bit with the reflector for floodier beam.

The most floodier light i ever tested was this one:

I can test most of XTAR torches since i have a friend who sells them locally. Never bothered for a review since it's way out of budget but seeing the discounted price it's worth a mention.

It is really 600+ lumens by running 2x18700. A bit less using 1 cell. Nicely made with some spare parts included. It is a SST50 tho, and runtime isn't the greatest and has a forward clickie along with HA anodizing. At this price point is really worth considering due to craftsmanship if anyone needs such a flashie. It has a weapon mount acessory and pressure switch not sure which one is already included since i got the bare flashlight to play with. Pretty neat 6700K too.

Don't get me wrong, it does still have a hell of a shotspot but the spill-flood is quite heavy.

Well, to get a cheap floody, then there is only 2 options

1) the P60 MCE at DX for 20USD

2) future P60 XM-L which DX hope bring to us.....

Why XML better? only due to less heat, less current draw? But XM-L will be less floodier than MCE

But probably more light so you can afford to lose some light by using a diffuser.

Just because in a small host you have great spill along with fancy lumens and possibly less heat. The DX MCE's were not heavily advertised as good. Usually heavily underdriven and hot.

mmmmmm please DX! xm-l P60 dropins NOW!!!!

My XM-L is as hot as a MC-E. Maybe I'm just pumping more current with an 8x 7135 driver but it really gets hot quickly on a C8 body. The tail current is usually 2.4-2.5A on high with a near full battery. Could it be the contacts or the wires heating? I use the wires came with the driver.

Only one way to find out i'm afraid. I'm still tempted to buy one of these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Non-Contact-IR-Infrared-LCD-Digital-Thermometer-/290509525627?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a3b7927b

Not sure wheter i like the absence of the laser for correct positioniong. Befrore anyone tell's me that is accurate as an elephant in a glass store i know that. :) It would be nice to assess differences tho.

Beware of the Distance Spot Ratio, here 2:1, which means that the measuring area diameter is half the distance to the oblect. Try finding one with 8:1 to measure smaller objects as the head of a light.

Question: this flashlight will have any flood? the reflector is very deep but NARROW....

Any floodier one or more like a thrower?

I just got this: http://www.kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=11104

My first XM-L yay! 2,86A at tailcap with 4,17V cell. Foil wrapped dropin and doing a heat assesment as of writing.

Anyway... it's very floody.

Oh thanks! can you take pictures?

I have read again your comment. 2,86Amps on a P60!!!!!!! too hot?????

Not too hot, just looking for fireballs to show up anytime. :D

Yes i'm well aware of p60 thermal capabilities but one can still wish since many said it isn't that hot. I had higher hopes. Well my p60 is really in barbecue category i stopped and pulled the cell out. By hand it was 55C at max. Would not dare to try go higher.

Ill try to do some shots when i find where the heck my wife put our poor excuse of a compact camera. Alot better than phone camera but nothing really worth of mention.

The first night with my C8, I decided to make a heat test with it. Well I were writing a mail and I forgot to check its temperature for 10-15mins. I grabbed the light the moment I realized that I had left it on and I almost got my hand burnt. A well driven XM-L still heats, but puts out more lumens at the same time. We were complaining about Xenons, Halogens being hot, making you think of LED's would be completely cold. There is no literally cold light as seen. Maybe using XM-L at 1800mA isn't that bad an idea at all?

That's what medium setting is for. :D About over 1 amp on partially depleted cell heats up just barely.

If you buy the mce don't buy the K bin..my friend had bought the m bin and also bought a p7 and another mce since he was so happy with the first 502 DX m bin ..After he recieved the new lights all I heard was wimpering and whining ..So i pass it along as something to be aware of ...AND i add my thoughts on 501b bodies as being horse dung .. just think a solorforce or even a fake solarforce even is a better idea than a 501 ...never saw such trash in my life .. threads begging to be cross threaded .light weight and ..just cheap ..aughh***
