*BLF LT1 Lantern Project) (updated Nov,17,2020)

Update me please to 3.

Just to get everything right:

Are you referring to the German LT1 manual or the automatic German translation of the LT1 text on Aliexpress?

In the latter case, I will try to resolve that issue by sending Sofirn a proper German text they can use to replace the automatic German translation. But I don’t know if this works from a technical point of view as I don’t know the IT infrastructure of Aliexpress.

Anyway, I‘m sure we‘ll get this fixed, so no shadows will be casted onto this great lantern. ;-)

Wow this looks excellent! Thanks for all the hard work! Please put me down for 2 more, total of 3. I am #1074.

I believe I am down for one, can I add a second one? First one was #2294.

2 for me

  1. I'll try my best.
  2. Makes complete sense, thanks.

Many thanks for all your replies. Not aiming to diminish everybody's work here, trying on the contrary to propose ideas because I like this community work and result.
  1. There's a great sentence at the end in the manual, period. I'm only surprised there is no reference to this crowd-designed cradle of the LT1 right in its introduction. We have here 250 pages of inputs, discussions, schemes, etc for this lantern, it's a whole pretty unique origin that, I think, deserves more emphasis. Starting right at the beginning :)
    1. My proposal would be to have something like "CrowdDesigned on budgetlightforum.com" close to "The BLF LT1 Lantern uses Andúril Firmware" on the firstpage, or just under the LT1's pic
  2. For french speakers here, I'm going with "dépoli" which fits the purpose perfectly.
  3. The confusing part is, from my english interpretation, it looks like the user HAS to set the output to a level 70 (tops) if he powers the LT1 from USB. Do I get that right?
  4. Regarding nitpicking, hehe, it is not my intention, even if I totally understand why it could look feel so. We are editing with a size constraint, as it will be printed. Therefore, gaining a few words here and there can have great impacts. That's why I try to favorise simpler turns of sentences, being straight, and proposed you this tweak. And good mathematic point on your side. That means now ToyKeepers have to impelement hundredths of volts monitoring in Andùril

I love semantics too; it's even more fun when you factor in some language and culture bias; but here I can only concur : frosted or translucent are way better options. And I belive frosted to be the semantic winner.

That was exactly my point about opaque, great explanation !

Last questions normally, two firsts are important to me to complete the translation; others are more suggestions/small typos :

  1. Can somebody explain me the "Switch Backlight" chapter, or point me to discussion regarding that. I'm confused of the behavior, and don't want to translate something I'm not getting. It may be me, but something doesn't make sense.
  2. Can somebody explain me this paragraph from the "Ramp Configuration" section: Note the default (after a battery change or other power interruption) for LT1 setup the smooth ramp will turn on at level 65. For the stepped ramp, the output level choices by default are 10 / 45 / 80 / 115 / 150. The LT1 will turn on at level 80 by default. Once the floor and ceiling levels of the LT1 are changed as described below, the LT1 will remember these changes even after the power is interrupted. After the stepped ramp is changed the lantern will come on at the programmed level closest to 65.
    1. Why does STEPPED and SMOOTH does not share the same default (65 vs. 80)?
    2. What are the defaults for SMOOTH? Or why are there multiple defaults possible for STEPPED?
    3. Why does the STEPPED RAMP would want to be close as possible to level 65 at start after programmation?
  3. In my word editor many "double spaces" and "triple spaces" are hidden on the last pages. Mainly starting from this sentence " While the LT1 is ON in one of the ramping modes, click 4 times to enter RAMP CONFIGURATION for the current ramp."
  4. To set the lowest possible level, click once. (MOON) => MOON is placed after the dot, while infact belonging to the previous sentence.
  5. Ceiling clicks: 151 – ( level you want ) = Clicks To => Misses a dot before "To"
  6. "To configure the LEDs, " => should be singular, as it refers to the switch LED.
  7. O-ring => it is not located or described (like proper diameter and section). I believe it to be at the head/base interface, right ?
  8. Do you think it could be useful to always had the indicative lumen correspondance when we refer to the levels?
  9. What would be a fitting replacement to rubbing/isopropylic alcohol ? In Europe, and in France, it is an industrial alcohol that is not widely available to consumers, or for quite "suprizing" prices. Could 70°/90° pharmaceutical ethylic alcohol be proposed?

ToyKeeper and Lux-Perpetua, so far I've factored in all your answers to the french translation. Thanks.

Please add 3 more for me

That makes a total of 6 (3 for Christmas presents, I hope).

From a brief 10 minute read through of this forum I would like to make sure I have most if not all of the current facts straight:

Price is:
$63 with 4 batteries
$50 with no batteries

Availability still to be announced

Emails related to people included on interest to buy list will go out October 10ish

Product currently available to order on Aliexpress site at non-discounted price

The 10th? Is it really going to be that long? At least they might be here by Halloween if we get lucky.

My username is correct, just the quantity to be updated to a total of two. Thank you!

I could forward it to you from Germany if needed

I’m currently down for two, please could you add one for a total of three.

I want one more for a total of two. (#2251 on list)
thanks!

Thanks for keeping track of all this data, sir.

And if I haven’t said before, thanks to TK, DBSAR, and the rest of the team for bringing this home.

Thanks for your kind words ActiveAI. :-) But it's a collaborative success with everyone's contribution. BLF and this very lantern here are some of those outstanding examples proving that collective work can bring up great things to life. We should not forget to say 'thank you' to Sofirn for listening to the voice of the customer and for building this amazing lantern.

Merci beaucoup pour ton aide, fneuf! :-)

I have incorporated most of your suggestions and rectified all typos you have found out. I have uploaded this new revision onto your working folder for the French translation. I have also put you on the credit list as part of the team (I hope DBSAR & the team won't mind) ;-)

The new revision is also uploaded to the public shared folder, see link in the OP of this thread for further information.

Sofirn will receive the final (I mean it! :-D ) revision of October 8, 2019 by tomorrow, so chances will be good to get it together with batch #2.

I probably post more info here than is necessary, as it only stirs things up that are out of my control. The details I assume are still being worked out. As I stated, Sofirn makes the final decision, not sbslider. However, I did read in our group chat recently a very long list of countries which Amazon will ship to. It’s my impression that the LT1 will be available on several different amazon sites, not just the US one. I will refrain from posting any more speculation regarding these details regarding if/how/when the LT1 will be available. To quote someone on here, it will be ready when its ready. And a new quotable, it will be available from who the manufacturer makes it available from.

see below the list of countries Barry from Sofirn believes can purchase from amazon:

Still, this approach (of the available shipping destination country list Barry gave to promote Amazon purchase) ignores that there are a fairly large portion of customers, who still prefer buying Sofirn on AliExpress (and wouldn’t want to use Amazon at all).

Manual price adjustment after stopping the order (and telling BLF username) before paying would be the best for those people - there were already previous group buys organized like that.

So I will sit, listen and hope for that scenario until there are more new info available.

I did not know that, looks an impressive amount of countries. I hope that the free shipping and cost-free customs passing that is common for chinese packages will work just as well through Amazon, or better. I’m ok I think, Amazon-de is within the EU.

At first thought, amazon de could have also worked for me, but I guess, there will be shipping prices like 15-25 EUR, and that will greatly hinder the discount given by the original group price agreement.

@sbslider I just know that at the moment all the offers from Sofirn on amazon won’t be shipped to Switzerland. It is possible for sellers to ship to Switzerland, but most of them do not want the hassle and opt out of all countries except the ones that are part of the EU customs union.
