I got sick’n’tired of carrying 38lbs of crap stuffed into all my pockets, and taking 25min to transfer them from jeans to shorts or verse-vica.
Phones, house-keys, car-keys, papieren, cash, change, light(s), knife, lighter, RFID doodad to get in at work, key to the can, metrocard, pens, then throw in nice-to-haves like charging cables, small powerbank, flash-thingy, earbugs, lots of little crap and craplets, and it all adds up. I’d have to wear cargo pants and walk around like I had huge inoperable tumors on my thighs and ass.
Add multiple lights, lighter, bottle-opener, multitool, etc., and forget it.
Even in that small bag, yesterday I got 2 teeshirts from Amazon delivered at work, and both fit into that slingbag! And that’s with the waist-bag that I carry my phones and chargers inside the bag instead of molled on the outside. It’s like a freaking TARDIS.
So now, I carry minimal stuff on me, and only in my front pockets. Everything else goes into the murse.
Funny, ’cause it wasn’t all that many years ago that you could spot a European (as in just off the boat) because they were the only ones carrying murses. Usually rectangular and leather, not quite a messenger bag but similar. I said even back then that they had the right idea. Chrissakes, I even had about 5lbs of keys hanging on a dog-chain hooked to my belt. Only place it’d fit, ’cause all that metal wasn’t gonna fit into any of my pockets.
So now, instead of spending said 25min doing cargo-transfer, I just grab my bag and go. My pir8 patch makes it look kewl.
