Andúril 2 coming to Sofirn - The general Sofirn development thread

+1. Not familiar with the madtorch but I’m looking for an alternative to my M61/surefire combo. Great indoor setup but not enough reach outdoors.

@Barry0892: Any news about SC31A?
Is there a plan to add moonlight mode, preferably <3 lm  ?
If so, will this moonlight mode be available from off (i.e. long press) ?

I highly doubt it as long press from off activates LED in switch

Pretty sure the only people who call a 3 lumen low a moonlight.> are vendors who have no idea what a moonlight mode actually is .

Safe to say a moonlight runs between 1 and 1/4 lumen .
Firefly is below that

Low starts at about 3 lumens and goes up to 30? ?? Depends on the size of the light .
The real reason for the confusion is moons are hard to do well and manufacturers just cheat and call lows > moon modes to sell lights.

Depends on how concentrated the hotspot is. 10lm from a full-flood zoomie has so low lux that it might as well be moonlight. Only difference is that it (eg, my Cometa) lights up a way wider area than a regular light with concentrated hotspot. 1lm from a C8 or GTmini would be painfully bright.

My E03 with heavily-diffused film in front also spreads out the light over a wide area, so even its “low” is quite low. Of course, starting on medium kinda kills night-vision anyway, but…

I would agree that “moonlight” mode shouldn’t be defined by the lumens, but by the candela.

I disagree, when I’m using moonlight its almost exclusively to light up things that are close to me (sometimes right in front of my face) so even a very floody beam will be fairly concentrated at that range.

This might be the wrong topic im posting in here, but the Sofirn C01 used to come with a nice 3200k Yuji LED, now the C01S comes with a 4000k SST-20 which i dont doubt is also very nice.
The thing is im only really interested in a 3000k (or close) AAA high cri flashlight, does anyone make those nowadays?
Or is there a place where i can still buy the C01 with the yuji warm white.
Are there any plans for a new sofirn AAA flashlight, maybe even a 2700k one?
id love to add a AAA to my collection but i have a hard time justifying it seeing as i already have other 4000k lights and i would love a really warm white compact flashlight.
Maybe there is a place i could buy an incandescent flashlight from china somewhere? i own a few incandescent lights and i adore them but there are all simply too large to carry for the little light they give off.
Im sure you could fit an E10 incandescent bulb into a AAA form factor light, i might even try to make my own. but i dont know of any AAA flashlight host that would allow that.

Folomov’s keychain and penlight-sized lights use ~3000K E21A. Rosy and incredible color accuracy. UI and build quality are a bit wonky though.

@ Petelele: Sofirn C01 with Yuji warm white has been discontinued. I don't have any information if Sofirn is ever going to produce the C01 with a 5mm LED again. Maybe they could try using a different 5mm but my guess is they prefer to be using high power LEDs like SST-20 as in C01S only.

If you are interested in a red light AAA flashlight, please check this thread. https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/58847

This is however neither HighCRI nor anything around 3.000K CCT. Maybe Sofirn could consider using SST-20 2.700K 95CRI for their next batch of C01S. There are plenty of nice options for this great AAA flashlight host.

Just found this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000246528557.html?spm=2114.12010611.8148356.4.426c5223ay9xJ3

"Sofirn IF25"

Did you see the price?

Pm incoming

Edit: you have PM disabled, maybe you have to activate it. I have a new c01 3200k available if you are interested.

Nope, I assume they'll list it soon.

There are 3 orders made for this flashlight. I assumed you got one

bloody shame, the red LED really interests me, however i have a red led on my mini Victorinox swiss army knife, and if i really need more than that i feel like id have to bust out at least a 14500 flashlight, not a co1s with a red LED, it looks great but spending 10 euros on that thing just seems like a little too much for what would probably end up being a novelty item.
though i really like aux LEDs too… both would be nice

man that looks interesting, if it has temp ramping its gonna be a real banger, id love a 2 emitter version of this just for cost saving, id probably feel comfortable spending 20EUR on that and not more, and i guess that thing is gonna be 40-50 EUR. interesting light though, maybe the emisar D4v3 have temp ramping? if it has like 4k lumens and temp ramping id have no problems spending 50 bucks on it//

Temperature ramping should mean only 2 led output max. It has to stay balanced, so the middle tint would use all 4 at half power. I don’t think it will be anywhere near 4000 lumen. Then again, I don’t follow the lantern thread, maybe they can work some software magic.

I sort of assumed that the turbo mode would bypass the temperature ramping to deliver max output, besides even at half output Emisars emit plenty of light, not 4000 lumens but as long as the turbo is there for max output i could totally get excited about a light like this!
Edit: i just saw that turbo will deliver 2500 lumens, is this with the LEDs at half power or do you think there is already a sort of temp bypass in place? if not that seems like a missed opportunity.

I would assume that 2500 lumen is with both CW LEDs maxed out. The WW LEDs maxed out would probably be less. (Yes, I see the specs say max WW is 1400 lumen)

Would people be okay if Turbo did an override of the color temp? Some folks might not like that.
