XM-L zooming for 13,4$!!!

look at the comments on the page for this light ;)

HA HA - DX deleted them

I posted

"please stop listing things that aren't in stock"

and mod 'cyclist' posted

"what are you talking about, this just came out" and then referred me to some about DX page

I replied w/ the line from the listing that says usually 4-7 days or whatever, and said it does not say in stock, and that if one ships before the end of the month I'll eat my shorts

guess they don't plan on shipping this month

34% more brightness is crap if the flood to throw setup eats up most of your lumens anyways, especially in throw mode. Yes the flood mode is nice, but Im perfectly happy with my XR-E in flood mode too.

If you are going to bother with an XM-L F2T, you'd at least want one driven at 2+ amps which will be a significant upgrade from your P4 or XR-E one, (in flood mode anyways)

i can agree with that last part...might was well make it 3A imo

This light seems to be available now on ebay too:
here here or here

Let's hope DX delivers it soon because i'm really interested how it does in a review ;)

Whoa! DX didn't have it on stock, but still delivered in less than one month!

Ordered 3/19, Shipped 3/25, Received 4/12. Not bad at all.

And the light is very good for the price (which has gone up to $15.99). I'll write a full review soon, but here are my first impressions:

Pros:
- Small, but feels good / secure in hand because of the tail design
- Bright enough (~2.0A on high, 0.9A med, 0.3A low)
- Nice pill design (large enough, screw-in, screw-in internal ring to tighten foil & emitter)
- Good thermal transfer (whole light gets hot quickly)
- Rotate to zoom (good in my opinion, or at least different)
- Nice & even flood
- Build quality is OK
- Orange bezel looks cool (or at least different)

Cons:
- Small connector in the tail cap turns the light into twisty with some cells (shorts negative end of cell to the body)
- Quite big hotspot when zoomed in (2xYezl T9)
- Foil around emitter was not centered (easy to fix)
- Strange SOS (very fast)
- Ugly ring around the zoomed in hotspot

when I saw this thread 1st page I though - no way anybody got that yet lol

too bad about the price change. must be popular.

when you get around to a review could you measure the lens, or compare to any other zoomies we might both have? Probably 28mm, but I'm curious.

this bezel appears to have a LOT of room for a longer lens...

no big deal if you can't, (if it shows up at another shop) I'll probably buy it right away

Glad you received the light!

Is a pity they have increased the price, but still is not expensive.

Waiting for your review, and thanks!

34% more brightness isn't true . 34% more lumens....but brightness is somewhat deceptive since you can only see 25% of the 34% you're talking about ... factoring in the inverse square law of perceived brightness ....So you can say 8% perceived brightness . since it's a cheap light you can also possibly assume the aspheric is wrong for the xml and like you said the bezel is blocking light , theoretically there could be an overall loss of brightness and severe loss of user friendliness with a no throw "flood to no" light .

but I still say buy it :P

yes, output, not brightness

but I modded my z6 xm-l zoomie - copper heatsink, glass lens, xm-l U2 at 3.5A (had one more chip for nearly 3.8 but that seemed a waste), KD V2 so I have super low and med that will run a battery dead w/o overheating.

percentages, meh...

all I know is, (inside 150 meters) it makes my XR-E zoomies look like kids toys

I ordered one of this from tomtop's Ebay list last Mar 17. I still haven't received the package, but I'll update my post after I received it.

I ordered this one because I have the XP-R3 version of it and I like its build, plus I like its locking zoomy. This one I currently have can throw over 200m. But I hate the rings.

Howdy jopat!

Welcome to the site. :)

^Thanks for the welcome. I was a lurker since mid last year before I decided to register last month.

Welcome to BLF!

I predict you'll be disappointed with that light.

If it's driven hard, it will blow up soon. If it's driven mildly you'll be disappointed with the amount of light when in trow mode.

That flashlight is ok for LEDs that aren't generating much heat, like XR-E, but with XM-L the amount of heat might be the a big problem, and XM-Ls already aren't ideal for zoom lights.

In any case, good luck, let us know what you think when you get it.

Viktor

Hi!

First i will like to say is Thanks for this forum. Its great.

2 monts ago i have orderd 2X18650 with xml-t6 it was driven with 1.10A. The led was after 20 min dead, i think there was a failure in driver that blown the led. I bought a new driver and a new led, now its driven with 1,6A i could be more but i think my batteries are low current and they cant manage current more than 2A. I am very dissapointed with the throw function. Its not so many bright as my other zoom flashlight with P4 and Q5 led. And yes its true that the xml t6 led in that cheap housing can very fast heat up. I will to buy another zoom flashlight with 1 18650 batt. what do you suggest in the budget segment.

@viktori

Hi viktori. Thanks for the welcome.

I'm not really bothered by the 900lm in its specs, it is overrated IMO. It'll probably be just 250-400lm max and its body mass looks enough to take the heat. I know that it will not be much good as a thrower but I just want a flooder that has a zoom function if the need arises.

I saw these two videos before and it seems good enough for me.

I also have the Tank007 TK-737 XR-E but was a bit disappointed with its flood. When I saw those videos I was convinced that a zoomy T6 would be good for me. Other than the zoom function, its flood also benefit from the aspheric lens based from the videos.
