Halo around convoy s2+ sst40 nw normal?

Funny how it doesn’t show up on any of the beamshots of sponsored reviews …

Hmmmm

This isnt just some extra spill but an actual purple halo around the beam

Who needs to worry about tint when theres are very visible purple artifacts :stuck_out_tongue:

I find the S2 has Halo effects around most LEDs — especially the bigger die LEDs —- it’s funny how some jump out at you and others are barely noticeable—Eagtac have the biggest problem I’ve found —Also stainless bezels

My S2+SST40 6500K is the same.

Interesting that my blf a6 se which is supposed to have AR glass doesnt have any halo

Hmmmmm :innocent:

You didnt trust the reddit feedback?

Reddit seems to be RAH RAH RAH BUY THE FW3A (or latest flavor) even if there plenty of folks with problems …

Just amazed that everyone thinks its OK and no one seems to point it out in reviews

Its so obvious that even my craappy iphone camera can capture it walking outside on the street … so not just a “white wall” thing :innocent:

Outside on the side of the house … cant conplain about CRI or tints if you see this while working outside at night

Put a piece of DC Fix on the lens —- will loose throw but fix that ugly ring

Being bothered by this is white wall hunting at its finest :smiling_imp: I have this ring on my Nichia S2+ and my XM-L2 S2, and it doesn’t affect their utility in the slightest.

Aint no white wall on this

Or should we paraphrase “bothered by tints, cri or pwm is whinning at its finest when it doesnt affect their utility” when the big bad barney the purple dino halo ring is hugging your light :innocent:

Why none of these reviewers mention it or a ring that i can easily capture on my iphone camera doesnt show up on THEIR white wall beam shots is beyond me

I have no comment.

I just hope this thread keeps going because it puts a smile on my face.

I just realized I do have a comment.

Halogate.

I can give you a shipping address to dispose the flashlight if you want.

Not a chance, im going to shine it on folks to make em seem like they are religious figures with that halo :innocent:

Great for night church sermons !!!

A special convoy s2+ feature … instant jesus

!

@Bearbreeder, that’s a constant complaint about the SST-40, exasperated by the low CCT and low CRI of the SST-40.

The SST-20 4000k is much better in this regard.

Thats interesting as we have folks here and on reddit who seem to have the same issue on the s2+ with sst20, nichia, xml, etc …

Perhaps not purple but pink, red, etc …

Its not just AR lenses as my fenix and blf a6 with em dont have this issue

What amazes me is not that its there, its a cheap light afterall

But that ALL the reviewers seem to miss it while they go off about tint, cri and pwm

Its the more obvious than any of those on mine :innocent:

get the OP reflector if rings bother you. s2+ with sst20 and OP. no rings and perfect hotspot.

Whats “bothering” is the absolute lack of mention of this in reviews

Are reviewers getting set “special” samples, are their cameras not able to capture what an iphone camera can, or is it something else …

How can one be a tint snob and not see a big halo? :innocent:

My D80v2 with SST40 has a similar distinct blue/violet ring around the periphery of the beam. It’s noticeable but in no way affects the usefulness of the light. It resides outside the useful area of the beam and isn’t a problem in actual use.

In practice, it doesn’t really affect tint/CRI since it lands far outside the usable light pattern.

For what it’s worth, I have an S2+ with a 219c which does not have any visible blue artifacts around the beam.

Pretty noticeable on even a brown fence

Might not be in the beam itself but its well in direct view of your eyes

Its amazing that reviewers dont seem to even mention it when they go gaga over every other thing
