CRX, you should open a modding school. Definitely youāre gifted within the skills you present. What I wish for you is to be possible earn a living just by creating awesome flashlights. That would be even better occupation than BBC TOP GEAR leader
This guy simply just reply once then disappeared.
What Kind of maker that is
Thanks.
A lot of the lights listed were modded for other people, given away or sold cheap as prototypes.
I usually list things here.
Me too!
I think I would need to get a lathe and a decent set of tools for that though.
Thereās a lot of guys out there that are far more knowledgeable and skilled than me, I just like persevering in making things with my hands and showing what can be done with simple hand tools & materials anyone can get hold of, keeps me out of trouble too, mostlyā¦ :innocent:
My creations being hand made arenāt perfect, but some are interesting.
I told you I would try to think of a design for what you asked, sometimes that can take a very long time if it happens at all depending on what ideas and materials I come accross.
Designing something from scratch in my personal free time for someone is a time consuming venture.
Please remember I am not a flashlight shop or business, I am just a hobbyist who tries to fit things in and help people if I can.
Writing posts like this does not get you on my speedy āto doā list
CRX, you say that youād like to make a living on flashlight creationsā¦
Yes, your methods are not among the most efficientā¦.but I donāt think Iāve seen many perfectionists like you. In the flashlight community or elsewhere. This alone makes your lights expensive to makeā¦but very valuable as well.
But have you actually tried making some money? That would be the first step. But from my limited experience I got a feeling that this was not among your priorities.
I mostly do this here as a distraction from the daily grind of chasing money so if I did this solely to earn a living I would probably need to find another creative hobby
Stay in a nice workshop all day making lights as opposed to jumping about electrical installations is becoming a much more appealing thought as I get older I must admit
True what you say though, prices are up from now on
WOW CRX! Those are some great looking lights! Thanks for taking the time to post pix.
If possible could you be specific on the brand of glow powder and tape that you use? I donāt remember the brand that I have tried using before, but it wasnāt very good.
If you have mentioned it in the thread already my apologies.
Thatās where I saw it! SWEET! I read that thread last year when I first joined BLF. I originaly got the idea for using glow tape from your Emisar D4 thread, but I had forgotten where I saw the info on the glow gaskets. I want to use it on my D4 and D4s.
Thank you.
You could always donate a lathe to the cause, ya know. :face_with_monocle:
CRX, in the first post I see āFourSevens Mini AA Ti - MT-G2 Q0 5000K - FET 15 - 2x14250 - Rv Clicky Tail Sw - 1960lmā.
But after clicking the link I see 1600 lm instead.
Output varies dependng on cells & other factors.
The lower measurement would have been taken before sale.
So both are correct, right?
The brighter measurement would have been taken with brand new cells and the lower taken with the 14250 cells worn in after a while. I would go with the lower number.
All measurements are taken on my small home made hobbysphere
CRX, looking at some of your modded lights, specially those that already have a charging port/circuit and where you replace the driver, can you tell if there is any concern regarding the ācharging circuit vs the new driverā?
I want to mod a light that already has in-built charging, but I wanna mod the driver (probably with Bistro HD OSTM firmware), but I never did this and was thinking eventual conflicts between the circuits! You did some so far, hence my question
Andā¦nice work
Depends on the setup really.
I think I usually just install a new separate charging pass through unit on builds like that unless the original driver/ charger units can be split. Iām not a driver guru so just hack it
What light?
Thanks for the reply mate
The light is the new On The Road 311. It has the head, where the driver is ( it has a spring to touch the upper part of the charging platform), and the the charging part is on the top of the body (not detachable).

My only concern is to provoque any kind of short, malfunction orā¦a drive whose UI doesnāt act correctly due to some aspect related to the charging circuit.
I aināt guru of any of these things soā¦I just hope I donāt mess it badly
With the pass-through in the body like that, you can swap just about whatever drive you want on top. Just be careful about how the contacts are for positive and negative and youāll be fine.
That puts the light on my radar, BTW. I own several lights with the built-in charger in that style, but without tail switches. Theyāre in a pile of āI swear Iāll add a tail switch somedayā but Iām probably deceiving myself. This isā¦ this checks a lot of boxes. MascaratumB, if you do mod this, would you be kind enough to document it? Photos and/or descriptions of what may be hangups would be extremely useful!
Now I just have to find budget and time for this (and the other half-finished mods Iāve got going)ā¦ and a kid due in Septemberā¦

Thanks for the reply Scallywag, and congratulations in advance I hope everything goes well with all the family
I will take care about the contacts!
And when the light arrives, I will review it, and in case I mod it I will document it for sure
This will be my first in a light like this, so I will take photos and describe it!
Seeing some of the mods made by CRX in this thread alerted me to this possibility, but not knowing the implications was bugging me.
Now I just want to arrive and in some months Iāll mod it (I have to check the driver diameter and the flashlight structure
Wow. Your work is amazing. Truly beyond reproach. I had no idea the level of expertise that could be achieved. Iām a DIY type guy, I build a lot of things. Your work humbles me.
