Anyone got a zanflare T1 lantern?

I bought one during the december sale (at about $15)

From what i can read from the oldest reports the UI as been changed somewhat :

Top switch :

  • first short tap : Cool white with level memory
  • second short tap : Warm white with level memory
  • third short tap : OFF
  • While in CW or WW mode a long press will ramp the ligth level down, a second long press press will ramp it up. The "ennoying high step" at low level (described in early reports) is still there.
  • While in CW or WW mode two quick taps will select the color mix mode at maximum light level where a long press will ramp the color from cold to warm and the next long press will ramp it from warm to cold. I have not found a way to set any other light level but the maximum !
  • While in color mix mode a short tap will set the light OFF

Bottom switch :

  • First press/release : Red light
  • Second press/release : Red SOS (very slow !)
  • Third press/release : OFF

Current drawn :

  • CW max : 1.1A
  • CW min : 12mA
  • WW max : 1.0A
  • WW min 12mA
  • Color ramp : from 1.1A (CW) going down to about 0.7A at mid ramp and up to 1A (WW)
  • Red : 0.22A
  • Standby : 22uA

That's more than 10 days 24/24 at minimum level and the standby consumption is lower than the cell self-discharge !

For me this lantern is a mixed bag :

I love the WW ... but there's no way to put it on without going through the CW wich i feel is a "very angry blue" one.

The color mix mode is interesting ... but the "always max level" totally kills it for me.

Anyone seen any viable competitors to the T1? I’d love one from a company like emisar, with a nice eswitch and tailcap lock-out.

Maybe the Fenix CL25R or their newer models?

I just got my second T1 lantern. I didn’t realize the UI has changed since the original version. This new one allows you to turn it off with a touch of the top button. I like that. In the old one, you have to press and hold the bottom button to turn it off.

Now the negative: This new one does not allow you to dim the light as much as the old version. Maybe it’s just sample to sample variation?

Huh… that was pretty much my only gripe about the T1. Had I known they fixed the UI, I wouldda gotten a couple more.

Wonder if they still got any more…

Aha, now I see this…

Now to find me one…

So that’s another difference between the original and the new design. With the original, if you had it on WW and turned it off and back on, it would be on WW again.

I noticed the same thing with my newest T1 but I dont see it as a negative. IMO it is perfect for a night light on low WW…… on high mine seems ‘just a bit’ brighter but that may be, as you said, sample variation. Like you, I really like being able to turn it off w/top button.

T1 on gearbest was out of stock again.

I noticed these are available again………. not for the original $16 though, they are now $25…. still a good deal

Your link shows “Discontinued” for me.

:person_facepalming: I missed it …… sorry about that

This is something new

and less than $16 w/coupon. Would be great for backpacking.

Has anybody been able to find something similar to the T1?

I love that it has WW and has ramping brightness. Also my T1 went for like 14 days straight at the lowest setting with the stock battery, great for emergency situations that last a couple of days.

GB (re)released it under a non-Zanflare name, but I can’t recall specifically what name that was.

Slightly different UI, and I think the lowest setting was not quite as low.

Maybe someone’ll jump in to fill in the details…

Beamday. I think that one is discontinued as well.

Ah! Oh…

Not to be confused with Oh… Ah!

I went ahead and ordered the one above but havent received it yet. I ordered it mainly because it is compact, has its own solar charger and is just $16.

A clone of the Zanflare T1 is available:

The Zanflare T1 lantern is still quite popular, if people can find a place to buy.

ZanFlare appears to be a house brand of Gearbest, and Zanflare flashlights appear to be well constructed

(eg. other ZanFlare models that I tested:

ZanFlare F1 may not be the brightest EDC flashlight now, and size is slightly big, but it remains a very good newbie EDC flashlight.

Zanflare F2 is also good for 2xAA flashlights, other than the tailswitch can sometimes be a bit difficult to change modes; but other than this issue, it’s a great 2x AA flashlight, much better in terms of regulation and runtime than another similar 2xAA flashlight like the Nicron N4 which heats up faster, brightness not regulated, and has shorter runtime with the same batteries)

ZanFlare F3 is also another good 1xAAA tail-switch-operated flashlight — many 1xAAA flashlights are twisty-operated to lessen cost. The F3 had a somewhat low price for a tailswitch-operated 1xAAA flashlight back when it was available)

Maybe if there is enough demand, Zanflare (or whatever the same OEM) can still continue producing the “T1” lantern? (maybe an interest list to show there is still demand for it?)
