I’ve done my reading on both and people seem pleased with both. Mostly a dog walking light with 3K or 4K HCRI emitters. Which do YOU prefer? These are my struggles:
Is there much difference in heat dissipation/thermal mass (is the D18 TOO small?), even though the form factor seems awesome.
BBL. it sounds like there’s a lower DUV tint bin used in the Astrolux, but after reading, maukka thinks the tint is about perfect on his d18. Any other opinions?
Throw. If anyone has both, which beam do you prefer and is the throw THAT much better on the MF01s?
I’m leaning Emisar because they are tried and true for me but I want to get the best light for my money and purpose. Thanks in advance for any input, even the the real answer is “you don’t need another flashlight.”
I’ve been wondering about the same thing myself, I have a D4SV2 with SST-20 3000K 95CRI which is my walking light, but I’d like more flood and better thermal handling with higher output.
It’s a great hand warmer though, heats trough your gloves.
Warm color temperature and high CRI are the most important features of a walking light in my opinion, especially on colder winter nights. The warm light is soothing and calming.
The MF01S is quite a throwy light. My 4000k does 80kcd with fully charged 30Qs. 6500k should be 50% more. If you’re wondering about the sustained lumens I’d say about 1500 but should be more if you’re holding it. Out of the three Astrolux lights I’ve had (All Mateminco) all of them came with a problem. Their quality control isn’t great. I still buy them though cause they’re so good value for money. Banggood can be a bit annoying but they usually end up solving the problem.
I have had issues with lights from both companies. Emisar dealt with the issue immediately and effortlessly. I have now sent and resent pix and videos to Banggood 4 times for the same issue and they still just ask for pix and order numbers every time I contact them. I gave up this morning and contacted paypal. If you are sitting on the fence take Emisar EVERY time. If you have problems they will fix it promptly - Banggood will just keep asking you for the same information over and over until you give up.
I have the D18 but I find myself carrying my NS53 more because of its smaller size and similar brightness. High cri is nice, but a wall of light from something so small and light is even better
