Need a budget good 1xAA (no 14500)

First post in ages on here!!!

Haven’t bought any lights in ages. Looking for some suggestions please. I need to buy a couple of 1xAA lights as gifts. What is recommended these days? I’m sure things have moved on since I was last active on the forum.

Looking at the budget end of the market if possible and something that works well on lithium primaries or Eneloops. Not interested in 14500 support.

I bought a Ti Thrunite a few years back and it is really impressive on an Eneloop. But can’t see anything on their site similar today. Does Convoy or anyone sell anything worth looking at in the AA arena? Ideally thinking $10-20 price range.

Welcome back,
The Sofirn or Thorfire lights come to mind
Sofirn -sorry 14500 uses
or the Lumintop Tool AA

Wow, first post in two years and two months...

Welcome back!

Convoy T2 ? BLF review here.
And there are other reviews here on BLF.

I love the Sofirn SP10S. It will work with 14500 but it works very well with Eneloops, lithium primaries or God forbid Alkaleaks.

I love the UltraTac A1 - simple lo/mid/high UI with good spacing on AA/NiMH, no blinkies, and pleasant neutral white tint.

Looks cool but I prefer a side eswitch on all my lights but especially on the small ones. I love the form factor on my S1R II but I hate the 6500K tint. This is what sent me on my quest for my ideal AA/14500 light. I’ve got a number of them on the way including 2 of the SP10S.

sofirn sp10s runs 400lm on AAs. It will run 14500 as well but you don’t have to use them. With a discount code you can get them for around $12-13. I have several and they are great lights.

Can you send me the code?

I have a couple Jaxman E3 with the Nichia 219. Go with the 4000k tint as its much better CRI. VERY well made light. I actually would say the quality is far superior to the Quark 2AA I just received (but thats another story!). I also just picked up a L3 L10, which is a single AA twisty with the 219C. Nice night, compact light.

The Thorfire and Sonfirn lights are very nice, light 1xAA clickies as well. I’ve owned a couple. The Thorfire will give you HML mode order while the Sofirn starts in low mode.

It’s forbidden to share codes from Fin or Freeme or others on this forum. I’ll ask for permission. There is a Sofirn member on here that has provided codes by private message.

Yes. Hence pm.

Ill second the Tool, UltraTac and the L10 lights.

Lumintop is now also offering the Tool AA 2.0 with a Nichia 219C. If you’re not as tint snobby as, say, our friend jon_slider (who admits it himself), it should be a decent pick.

For just an AA light, I would probably suggest this !
The host is thick and take a beat! The flashlight is so well done!
The 3 mode driver with a nice ML mode is good! I just don’t remember if it has PWM, but if it does, it is not visible naked eye!

I find it to be better than the Convoy user interface.
You can also get the Mantay Ray AA similar to the Convoy T2. The Manta Ray can be found in AliExpress and has only 1 mode!

Another vote for Jaxman E3 if only AA support is needed (it works on 14500, but the mode spacing is not good — low-medium-high on the E3 if using 14500 will be closely spaced together in brightness, but brighter than when using AA).

Jaxman E3 comes in LMH, the middle mode uses PWM (but likely not visible). I think you could request Jaxman to install only LH (NoPWM) if you won’t need medium mode. Message them in their AliExpress store to get the Low-High only version.

Barry from Sofirn says that they will be having their best sale ever Nov 11-12. More than likely you’ll score big, just hang out and pay attention cause this stuff goes quick it always seems to me. https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/56136?page=3 Post #120 (look in upper right hand corner)

There are deals that crop up here or there as well. Maybe follow on facebook and see what occurs? https://www.facebook.com/barry.lee.984991
