007, shootin’ em straight!

Some of these are so similar, likely the same cells. Sometimes it just comes down to what you can acquire (and at the right price). Any of these three and you’re GTG

I use a variety:

Sofirn Black 900mAh
Vapcell Blue 650mAh
Panasonic Red 800mAh
Vapcell Gold 1000mAh (doh! got six of these but they are flat top so only work in 1 torch)
Keeppower Protected 1000mAh

Got Vapcell Blue for high drain in Lumintop Micro

Any of the above good for Tool AA

If memory serves, Shockli slightly edged out the 14500 1000mah competition. But as you say, any would be well suited for the task.

Should they be protected battery?

Depends on use, but shouldn’t be necessary. Most new lights have LVP built in, and aren’t typically pulling high amps.

That light has no lvp

So if you leave the light on by accident (forget to lockout) yr bats will drain to 0v

Get a protected bat

There so close its not even funny. Differences in time of manufactor or slight differences in the anode and cathode material or electrolyte could make for those slight differences. Even a few degrees in internal cell temp can make a change in the numbers but the curve should look close to the same.
The shockli looks like it holds a slightly higher voltage under the load but that could be from slight changes as described above after the Vapcell was tested (they were the first to use this cell).

Yes - thanks. I was wondering this myself. I will get protected though since there doesn’t appear to be LVP.

LVP: There is disagreement. Above says no LVP. But Zeroair reports that this light does have LVP

Observed 3.04 v cutoff

I’d prefer to use a non-protected 14500, but would do so only if it has LVP. So, any help with resolution of the disagreement would be appreciated.

It has lvp which was 3,05 V in my case

Another important thing to mention, the lighted tailcap (only works with 14500) has a high parasitic drain of 8,5 mA
It will eventually drain your cell (i removed the LED’s in the lighted tail)

Mathematically speaking that’s only about 100 hours using a 850mah cell.
A little over 4 days and the battery is dead. Is that about what everyone experienced?
I changed my current limiting resisitors to a higher value right after I received, so I dont know how it was factory.

I can’t remember how high mine have been, but yes, it was right along those lines. I was dumbfounded.

The EE must have been out that day the resistor value was chosen. :person_facepalming:

I think the Tool AA 2.0 may not have LVP, so maybe a protected battery is suggested?

It has LVP set at 3V

So what if you don’t want the battery drain from the LED tail but you still want to use 14500 batteries? Is there a simple solution?

Turn the head 1/4 turn to break contact.
