Olight M2Rpro vs Jetbeam IIIMR vs Fenix PD36R - a "different" review

Hello my dear friends!

I tried to present those 3 flashlights without making just another "glossy beautyshot advertising galore" ;)
Let me know what you liked and what you missed!

Said it before in the comments and I say it again: great video! Thanks for the comparison Martin :+1:

thanks :)

Thanks for the video, I found it useful. I was particularly interested in the charging and surprised the Fenix over charged, that is not good.

Please could you answer one question for me about the tail cap of the olight, is there voltage present on the switch? Can you short it out? Would you get a tingle with wet hands?

Thanks

there is 2,5V present at the button - shortening does nothing

to switch the driver it needs 1kOhm (half press) and 255Ohm (full press)

Thanks Martin!

I wonder how they did that? What has put me off the olight tail charging in the past is the risk of shorting out, especially in my work where metal chips are abundant.

my guess:

they use the front contacts for driving the flashlight
2.5V watch voltage against the tail contact
using 2 resistor levels to activate modes
if the 5V chargingvoltage are detected charging starts

Remove the tail cap from the M2R Pro, and press the battery in with your thumb. You can still operate the light with the side switch.
So you’re correct on the front contacts driving the light.

I demonstrated that in my video ;)

For any so called “tactical light” I would love to see (timed) tests on how quickly turbo can be accessed from lockout.

Could you imagen how long it would take (in an oh $h!t moment) to get that olight into the fight?

in the Turbo/Strobe tailcap config 1/10 of a sec (full press on TS)

in both configs it's 3/10.(triple click on the side switch from OFF and ON)

in electronic Lockout add 2 secs to unlock

(made up numbers - how to measure the time to push a button?

have you watched the video?

How long would it take to draw the light from the pocket and get it into turbo?

I’d love to see some sort of timed test for “Tactical” lights.

As far as I’m concerned anything under 1 second is very good, 1 to 2 seconds is OK, and more than 3 seconds is a fail.

I doubt you would even be able to get that Olight out of lockout in an “oh $h!T” moment.

edited to add: yes, I did watch the review.

if its not locked and you use the belt clip 1 sec could be possible if trained..

but
in my opinion: NO locked out flashlight can be used instantly ;)

if you go after bad situations and want to solve it with a flashlight: have it ready to be lit in your hand. ;)

I’m just trying to be helpful.

I think you missed my point. I know you said in the video you aren’t a police officer. But many who use “Tactical” flashlights aren’t police officers. You don’t have to look for trouble, sometimes trouble finds you.

ah - i see

i better not make a fool of myself trying to act tacticool ;)
because i do not believe in using blinky stuff on bad people.

Still learning the lingo around here, but does blinky stuff mean the strobe feature? If yes, why would you not use it for self defense against bad people? Would it be better to use turbo mode directed at their eyes? Just curious is all.

Swabs

I would say, yes.

In a self-defense situation, done correctly, it could buy you a split second to strike back. It’s similar to a handful of sand in the face.

I guess that means there are no BAD people in Austria. right?

it's very different to countries like parts of the US or South Africa.
