Great to see so many new builders.
Even that is a big news.

In the spirit of being helpful - You know you ‘could’ be having this discussion in your own build thread so it can be judged accordingly
- Documenting also the Failures & Obstacles: How did the builder solve the inevitable problems? Documenting the obstacles and using the power of the BLF community to solve them is seen as a plus!
- New Driver Design or Custom Firmware is a plus: Especially when open source and shared in true BLF spirit.
It might be harder for the judges to remember this part of your build. Just a suggestion
Good points! Guess I’ll start one
I don’t really care about winning, I just want to get off my butt and build something useful finally. I also wasn’t expecting such helpful input (I came from the ‘other’ forum) so getting help from such kind folks is nice motivation also.
Entered!
Ok, starting this build thread today to get me motivated to start. My spare time is very limited, and I dont have access to many tools anymore (used to be a machinist and weldor- now I work on a ranch with a tiny uninsulated ‘shop’) so I hope this doesn’t turn out to look like too much of a hack-job. I’ve seen CRX’s entries in the hand-made category and, well, I’m nowhere near that skilled. So I’m not trying to win, just want a light that fits my needs better than what’s out there. And I like t…
I’ve also never posted pictures here, so I’ve been reading all the how-tos.
Done and dusted for another year.
The final two posts are from here.
And now for the final assembly. The two chips on the back of the driver need to be heat sinked. This is achieved by machining the driver pockets to leave a thousands of an inch clearance when the drivers are in place. This clearance is taken up with AS 5. [image] The drivers were installed into the housing and the wiring soldered into position. [image] Before assembly the lights were tested. For once there was no magic smoke. Phew. [image] And tested again when assembled. All joins had o’…
Can I bump this just to keep the interest level up… I have entered, I will be documenting and presenting my process here, but the actual start is likely a month away still.

Yes please! Bump away.
Ouch. Please watch what your bumping.

Another bump!!
A safe one
I just realized that we have a contest for modded lights
Sweet!
“Any” type of mod will do?
“Any” type of mod will do?
The way I read it yes. Please help spread the word about this category. I think a lot of people have missed it

Sure will do!!
And if I get some things to mod in time, I may enter myself even with a not very elaborated but substantial mod!!
Time is not much, but…let’s see!
BTW, maybe the title should maintain the “OL” reference for those familiar with it?

You mean those that are familiar with the old thread title?
I’m hoping the new appearance will get people to take a second look. There’s been some changes. For example - the modified category doesn’t even need a dedicated build thread anymore. If there is a build thread all the better but not compulsory.
For me writing about the build is the hardest part
I’m in the modified light category, but in reality the light is and will remain stock, I’m only building the driver.
I like Ck building drivers. Its something I’m not good at but admire his skills. And others of course.
Great to see more members entering :+1:

Me too!
It is a bit of a pain documenting the build but even just getting the basics of it over to the viewers goes a long way :+1:
I plan to enter, in the Hand Made category.
Do I post the link to my build thread here?
I’m in: Clemence's Old Lumens Contest 2019 - (1. Interior selector light)
Hopefully I’d come out with an idea sooner. Thinking to make this opportunity to one of those projects I left behind.
