Copper S2+ limited edition

I haven’t acquired the spacer I need to build mine yet… but I’m thinking about lockout. As this is a copper light, I assume lockout will not be achieved by merely loosing the threads a tiny bit like with anodized aluminum bodies. Is this a correct assumption? Can someone who has managed to get their light built confirm?

I am not certain if the light is coated (had to hide it until I can finish it so I don’t spoil the surprise), but I am thinking there is a .04% chance this would allow for physical lockout if it is.

I tried the lockout with my smooth version. It works with loose threads and I had to take off the tail part to power off the light.
I think only the surface has a light coating because it still shiny.

Thank you for checking!

I’m not too worried about the lack of physical lockout, but I wanted to know if a lighted tailswitch could be toggled this way. Looks like this light will not be getting AUX LEDs (fine be me… beautiful as is anyway).

I just tested the tint on the smooth copper S2+ with SST-20 2700K

With stock reflector and glass lens on max:
CCT: 2692K
DUV: 0.0027
Ra (CRI): 92.8
Blue peak: 0.24
R9: 69.0
R12: 82.0
Rf: 89
Rg: 102

With beaded optic and glass on max:
CCT: 2696K
DUV: 0.0005
Ra (CRI): 93.2
Blue peak: 0.28
R9: 71.3
R12: 84.7
Rf: 89
Rg: 103

With beaded optic and no glass on max:
CCT: 2700K
DUV: –0.0017
Ra (CRI): 93.7
Blue peak: 0.33
R9: 75.0
R12: 87.0
Rf: 87
Rg: 105

The beaded optic (available from Convoy store) looks much nicer. The stock reflector makes it look very yellow and has tint shift. With no glass and beaded optic, the tint is slightly rosy (negative duv).

Simon, is the beaded optic meant for use without glass? How is waterproofing?

Moving this off the other Convoy thread…

Is there any practical use for the “faulty” square thread copper pills from Simon? Other than installing some emitter in and hanging them off the Christmas tree, ^:) that is. Suffice to say don't know what to do with them, just trying to find some creative use before throwing them away. They must be good for ≈1W of heat dissipation, doesn't it?

I only have new copper convoy so if you don’t find any use for those pills let me know.

I’ve got two short tubes and three copper pills sitting around as well. :confounded:

Haven’t decided yet if it is worth getting the new smooth copper just for using them.

Same for you.

I’d be interested in a couple of square thread s2+ copper pills from anyone with who can’t use. Currently finishing a copper thermal transfer insert for a ld-a4 triple build for a LITNIT host (kiriba-ru spacer, mtn triple mcpcb w/ lh351d 4000k 90+ cri) and a for a sst40 single build and another as a spare would be nice to have.

I didn't think about sending them abroad, even with regular mail my post office starts charging me €6.6 if I surpass 100g envelope weight to Croatia (just checked with Correos online tool). Up to 100g it is €2.45, plus maybe ≈€1.50 max for a padded envelope. I have 3 pills. Will weight the pills and ask a close friend which works at a post office, because if the shipment goes above 100g I hardly see it worth doing (3 pieces copper pills from Simon is 86.43HKR, 73.47HKR if you ask him for a discount).

Will see later.

Yep! Time, shipping time is what i like. At the moment (for next 2 weeks) i will be on French address so if it is cheaper That could work also

id30209, there's something I will like to add:

Image: left pill with retaining ring all the way down, right pill with retaining ring screwed until it becomes very hard.

Had to check the pills. And looks like the guy which Simon relied on to make them is a bit of a bungler. One of my received pills has some imperfection in the driver retaining ring threading. I've tried to fix it, fiddling with a toothpick, a pin, even adding some grease. To some extent it has worked, there's still some way to go but it is around the same thickness as a driver board (≈1.6mm caliper measured).

You can private message me if you want them, their weight is a tad below 60g and so the shipping cost is (just) bearable.

PM sent

I must say that could be the reason i didn't get retaining ring in my brass pill but instead, it was soldered to driver negative port.

I just cannot shake the feeling of a failure with this one... just not sure who's...

I have a few useless (for me) cu pills. PM me if you want them.

Retaining rings are not equal. Some of them are slightly bigger so having some extras for a custom build is a good idea.

I hope there will be another batch of Copper S2+ with same threads as the Alu version
PM me if you want sell one used from EU

Wellp, finally decided to let go of my 1st gen copper S2+. Someone asked me about it a few days ago and while I said no back then, I've changed my mind.

So this is what I've got up for “auction”:

  • Unblemished 1st gen copper S2+ in host form with orange peel reflector and stock brass pill.
  • Blue lighted tailcap modified with big 3rd gen high current beryllium copper silver plated spring. Switch was skillfully desoldered and re-soldered after spring reflow, and then tested at 5 A while measuring the voltage drop over its terminals: ≈23 mV or ≈4.6 mΩ of resistance, this is perfect fully working condition (this explanation is meant for those who know Omten 1288 switches aren't heat resistant and easily damaged with a heat source if you don't have a clue).
  • Convoy holster, lanyard and standard Convoy S2+ gift box.

The above is the basic thing. Registered shipping within EU territory costs me €11.65, and €15.30 to the rest of the world (padded envelope included). Of course to sweeten this burden and add value I can include extras like:

  • CDM H1-A driver with small 3rd gen high current beryllium copper silver plated spring and 10 KΩ bleeder resistor, older version with 2R2 inductor (they downgraded :-P it I was told). It is currently modified with extra output capacitance and increased current drive to ≈3.98 A (additional R100 and R330 sense resistors stacked on board, must render ≈3.74 A according to jensen567's tests). Can drive in series triples likely up to 2.5A without problems (open circuit voltage is above 14 V), could reconfigure the sense resistor stack if someone is interested. However, bear in mind driver is ∅20 mm in size and requires to be reflowed to the pill.
  • SST-20 4000K CRI95+ FD2 emitters (max 3 pieces).
  • LH351D 4000K CRI90+ SPHWHTL3DA0GF4xyS2 where xy = T6 or T7 chromaticity bins (a few pieces of both).
  • XHP50A 3500K CRI90+ G4 flux 3-step MacAdam (XHP50A-00-0000-0D0UG435G) reflowed on 16 mm board.
  • XHP50A 4000K CRI90+ F4 flux 3-step MacAdam (XHP50A-00-0000-0D0UF440G, max 4 uds).
  • Some other stuff…

For now this is enough, ask whatever you'd like and/or PM me if interested.

you have PM
