ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

Thanks!

I’m on the fence with this one. It looks like Yon Xanadu got dinged for not using the steel they claim by LuvThemKnives. That’s my biggest issue with buying knives on aliexpress. If the knife is 8Cr13Mov or whatever, just say so. A company like Tonife has no problem listing 3Cr13Mov or 5Cr15Mov. As a result, I have no worries buying from them. In fact, their little 7Cr17Mov Squirrel is one of my favorite knives.

Was wondering if there are any deals like the gocomma knife that was selling for around $9.99 (around a year ago or so). I liked that knife and was wanting something budget like that.

The last one I ordered was on 5-17-2019

Honey Badgers are running less 25% for Black Friday.

Also new sheepsfoot shaped blade was just launched.

this guy Outpost76 is testing the edge retention, test results here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PzXZEuyMtOMoSDhyFUfDNV9MNbztMEvZ3OgRa6yT7QU/edit#gid=124530197

most people doing edge retention tests only go for the higher steel grades. not a lot of low-end steel to compare to, like Sandvik, 440 or AUS6/AUS8. Spyderco S30V knives with 10-20% more durable edge retention seem to retail for at least 150USD, the Endura is 80USD and performs way worse than Ganzo D2 steel. DAMN.
that makes Ganzo’s D2 knives an outstanding deal. or Spyderco somewhat disappointing.

For China made traditionals you could try this:

Thank you, sir.
I bought my first Rough Rider about 9 years ago, a 6-blade folding knife!!
The only problem with them are the shipping cost; they are chinese made, but sell/trade by american SMOKY MOUNTAIN knife works, and they do not sell to Italy…So I must buy them from Ebay/Amazon etc etc with a lot of shipping cost etcetc (no free shipping from China, sigh).
Maybe one day I will do a video review of my first Rough Rider Knife! :+1:

Well, you are welcome!
I just posted my latest “effort”, a video review of a Brother knife, another (very) good chinese brand, the Brother 1507

This is the video:

Maybe tonight I will open a post/discussion

Have a look at this store on Aliexpress. They have a couple of traditional slip joints branded as “Watchman” at a reasonable price with free shipping.

How is the opening action of your Brother 1507? Isn’t it too stiff? I’m also planning to order one.

I gifted a DogBoneJack to my nephew (and his french bulldog) but he lost the non working (with this dog) whistle.

I should’v kept the knife :stuck_out_tongue:

But yes, shipping was half of the selling price, I hat that, too.
Made in China, comes shipped from the US, what a joke.

Thanks for the valuable suggestions! I had seen them, they are the same store where I got the Brother 1507!

My is “normal”, It is neither hard or soft, I would say that it is ok. The one thing apparently negative (so to speak) is that opening with one hand is almost impossible (for my little hands :person_facepalming: ). It’s a modern traditional (reminds me of the Gec style) so opening it with two hands is not a real problem.

Right now, “Knife center store” on Aliexpress has the best price of the whole web. I was really amazed by the quality. I expect to buy at least one more Brother knife, even if they cost a little more than I usually spend on Chinese knives.

Unfortunately you’re right, it’s an old speech, we’ve talked about it before. We knife lovers here in Europe are unlucky.

:person_facepalming: :rage:

I also stumbled upon those Watchman / Steel Warrior traditional slip joints while looking for the Brother 1503 and 1507.

Two handed opening is fine for me as long as the folder doesn’t have a nail breaking stiff action.

Got myself a new fixed blade. Brother F005. D2 and a micarta handle with “kydex” sheath. Hardness said to be 61 HRC.

I have used it only to start one fire though. Strikes a ferro rod decently and feathersticking was good. It is a scandi grind but I am pretty sure that there is a secondary bevel. I might make it a true scandi or convex it.

For the money it seems like a true bargain! No gripes about anything. F&F is spot on and the sheath is functional and the knife sits in really snuggly.

Actually one con it had… the sheath was holding the knife too firmly. Heat gun did the trick and now I can get the knife out easily but it still snaps into the sheath firmly.

County Comm Boker with Coyote G10 scales is on sale this weekend for $20, additional 10% off using code MILSPEC

Thanks for the heads up! I’d been looking for a “gentleman’s folder” knife and had been waffling between a few different knives. So many choices today in the small EDC range. It’s mind boggling. Eventually I realized for a small EDC, a slip joint would do just fine. Only looking to tackle small tasks with it. My Victorinox Alox money clip has a very usable knife, but wanted something a little larger. I have a Victorinox multi-tool knife, but it doesn’t have a clip and is too thick. This looks like it’ll do the job nicely. Excellent price, too. CountyComm has loads of interesting items. I also picked up a zippered pouch wallet with clip.

I’d been looking for a mini folder liner-lock knife with titanium scales. Found this little 2” D2 bladed thing on eBay (seller is jian2016). Price is about $18 after taxes (USA).

It arrived in a nicely packed bubblewrap envelope, stashed in a good quality drawstring felt pouch. Machining is excellent. No burrs or hot spots. Blade locks firmly into place with no play, although action is tight. Not a flipper by any means, but that’s to be expected with a knife this size at this price point. Still, the materials do seem to be true to form (titanium body, D2 steel blade).

That looks really nice and the size is good for edc.

Can someone tell me what is this accessory which came with one of my sanrenmu which I had got last year.

SRM 7010 SRM 7010 - Album on Imgur

Yes, the quality/price ratio is excellent. I’m glad I got it. As for the accessory, looks like some kind of flat strap lock. Nice looking Sanrenmu. Stone wash always looks cool. Is that about a 3” blade?

What is that accessory used for?

Yes, the SRM is nice, I got like 3 variants of this 7010. You are right, blade size is about 3” and overall knife is just over 6”.

Wow, you are in Hoboken! I come to River Street for work!

I think you can clip that accessory around your belt and the knife to it then.

On the right panel with the peg, there’s a slot cut with a tab. You could slide a strap into that, then after wrapping the strap around, lay over the excess and then close up this retainer. Or, it could be used to secure something to a belt, like a flashlight with a hand strap—after securing this retainer to the belt, lay the hand strap over it then close it up.

I’m actually in Weehawken, right near Hoboken border, so I put Hoboken as it’s a far more recognizable name. Yeah, tons of businesses in that city. Very expensive place to live! But great for night life after work, that’s for sure.
