MF01 Mini / MT07- Mod/Upgrade - Copper Heatsink Cover Plate

1. How much heat loss or increase will there be due to differences in the materials of the part?
2. What is the price ratio between copper and other materials?.

Interested for 1.

1. Aluminum will also works good enough, but copper had way more density, weight and better thermal conductivity, so the heat transfer is quicker. After some time the temperature on the Body will be the same with both materials.
2.The price ratio is not to big, 1-2 $ to aluminum. Most of the costs is caused by the manufacturing, machining, handling, supplier and so on. But I will anyway not offer another option than copper and maybe only this one batch at all.

Cant wait to get one they look very good.No issues with shipping costs
C

I’m interested in one (1). Nice work and thanks!

If this mod really solves the problem of overheating, I think many will want to buy it, we just need graphs and measurements in the maximum modes of the device.

Interested in 2

in for 2, please.

I’m interested in one or two. This will make the copper MF01 mini even heavier! :open_mouth:

Yes, I’m absolutely with you, such a test with temperature analysis, runtime graphs and so on would be very nice in addition to my testings so far. Unfortunately such analysis are not my expertise, so I would appreciate if someone of us who’s got the skills, tools and possibilities would do this and post the results here. I would send one of the first pre-production samples for testing if someone with the appropriate reputation agrees to do it.

So feel free to suggest yourself or someone.

Nice, so far they look great. Hope this works out and I get to play with them :). Will it be a straight plastic for copper swap or will we need to add washers and/or a bit of cpu thermal compound on those AMCs?

Between the copper “mod” and the microcircuit there is a gap of 0.1 mm, what kind of washer are you talking about ?! You can of course add a washer measuring 00.5 mm

Just add Kapton tape or Liquid electricians tape

Okay, shipping looks good (international post w tracking) - lets do this!

(13.5 + 7.92, so 21.42USD)

In fact, if the mod allows you to hold all 5500 lumens without automatically lowering the temperature, then it’s worth it …, but it’s doubtful, without measurements …

Basically yes, it’s only a swap of the cover plates, plastic against copper, use the same screws. You don’t need to put any washers or anything else in there, but I strictly recommend to use some thermal compound paste, as I shown with pics and described in the post #1. This is important to achieve the best thermal conductivity and by that to transfer the heat quickly from the AMC’s and the driver pcb to the body (host). Otherwise this mod/upgrade will not work properly.

I’m not sure what you mean with this statement. 5500 Lm will only be achieved in turbo mode and only with the SST-20 6500K version. The turbo mode is already thermal regulated fine from stock in the MF01 Mini. This mod solves the problem with the step down (due to bad thermal contact to the driver pcb) in the ramped modes (also top ramp) below turbo.

Measurements will follow, if not from my side, than from somebody else, but it will take a while.

interested.

I mean, maybe the process of lowering the temperature will not happen due to good cooling (in turbo mode) … but I think that the case will still heat up and there will still be a decrease … The question is actually how much time mod will extend the temperature drop in turbo mode?

I’ll take one
