Note that the LED with the lowest Vf will get hotter than the others. Which will lower its Vf further.
I don’t know if this is the case here but sometimes it spirals out of control.

So I did some more replacing of LEDs, this time in my new Sangean MMR-88 DAB emergency radio. The original LEDs were 3mm 6500K ones, changed them out for the 5mm 2300K LEDs. Had to drill up the reflector but that was pretty easy as it was just plastic. The PCB for the lights were modular and unpluggable, so the job was pretty easy. Overall I think it turned out well, brightness isn’t the greatest obviously, but it was pretty terrible with the original LEDs so it didn’t matter much.

The light itself on low brightness. It has four modes; high, low, flashing and SOS. When the radio is off, it’s just high and off unfortunately. Should’ve been low, high and SOS.

Time to change all 5mm LEDs I can find!

So, in conclusion: Current should be chosen below specs, serial circuit would be ok with booster and FET to control current. I guess if those three 10-LED-arrays will do 50lm each or even less, this would be more than enough anyway.

I see if I can use 3mm aluminum sheet and drill some holes.

I have a couple project lights I have run a bunch of the 3400K in parallel.

One is a 36 LED desk lamp with 3S 12P, running each at about 30mA. For this application I want it to be able to run many hours at a time and last for a long time. 30mA should do that. Looking at them with dark sunglasses :sunglasses: They appear to be driven very evenly.

The other light is one of those cheap drugstore 3AAA lights with 6 LEDs. I was able to find room on the board to drive them with a 7135, so that comes to about 58mA each. They get a bit warm after 15 minutes or so but also appear to be driven very evenly, all the same illumination to my eyes. This was a useless junk drawer light until these LED’s were installed. An 18500 fits well in there with a spacer to take up the extra diameter.

Beautiful light quality on both of these; warm floodlight.

I just want to make sure that it lasts through new year festival and Chinese new year (since the factories will be closed for quite a long time). If it runs out of stock during this period, then I won’t be able to replenish it.

I may buy one of those 100 LED UV lights in the picture a few posts back, and then i’ll need 2 more packs of your LEDs. :slight_smile:

Just put these on USPS website (for U.S. customers) or https://track.thailandpost.co.th/

The registered/ePacket should be trackable by destination country’s postal service. (That doesn’t apply for packages beginning with ‘U’ though since it’s explicitly non-trackable.)

Thailandpost has just changed API and that messes up 17track’s.

Another mod, this time a cheap $3 headlamp that I’ve had for years, but never really used regularly due to the light being poor.
This was before I knew about the proper good flashlights and headlamps, and only went to the local hardware store for lights.

It has four 5mm cold white spot beam LEDs and three 3mm red LEDs. Low brightness setting turns on the middle two LEDs, high brightness setting turns on all of them. It takes 3x AAA batteries and has a decent runtime.

Original tint and beam:

PCB with new LEDs, the two in the middle are 2300K and the outer ones are 3400K. This means that on the “low” brightness the light is pretty warm, while on the “high” brightness it gets mixed to a lovely tint of around 2700K with more flood and brightness. Red LEDs are still the same.

The headlamp itself, it can be angled and it’s pretty great to wear for the price.

So the LEDs made this cheap light into something I’d actually use more now that the light is a lot better.
It’s perfect for indoor use, as it’s pretty floody and easy on the eyes due to the warm tint. Perfect for reading a book in a tent for example.

I’m most likely going to be hunting these cheap 5mm headlamps and see which has the best UI and modability if that’s a word.
I’ve found a cheap $10 one with a 3W CREE XP-E R3 main LED with a clear reflector and two 5mm LEDs on the sides. That makes for a nice dual-purpose headlamp since the CREE LED will throw decently with 150 lumen, while the two 5mm LEDs can be swapped for either 2300K or 3400K for warm white indoor light. It’s also 3xAAA.

Hi. I don’t want to sound like “that guy”, but I don’t think that providing tracking numbers in a public place can be filed under good safety practices. I know it’d be a bit more work, but providing tracking numbers in a private environment (like personal messages) would be safer for those that don’t want their place of residence revealed.

Even more modding, now the $10 headlamp I was talking about. This one has become my favorite multi-purpose headlamp, even though I have brighter ones (PL47G2 for example).

Original specs:

- 3W CREE XP-E R3 main LED w/clear reflector, around 5500K tint

- 2x 5mm white flood LEDs, around 6000K tint

- UI with 7 modes: Main bright, main dim, main blinking, flood on (main off), flood SOS, off. Hold for off in any mode.

- Tilting head, around 45 degrees downwards.

  • 3xAAA batteries.

Pretty satisfied with this one, I’ve used the main light outdoors and it throws pretty far for a cheap headlamp. The flood LEDs are great for indoor use with the warm tint. I’m going to do a few of these and give them away to friends and family. People seem to be amazed by proper warm white LEDs because they’re so rare.
