[Review] Folomov EDC C1 UPDATE: v3

Good news, everyone! Folomov has updated the design of the EDC C1 and released a v3 product that doesn’t seem to have the same issues as the original. I’ve tried out the new model and posted a review on my site for anyone interested.
This has some further enhancements including a stainless steel bezel.

My review of the original version will stay live on my site as well for archival purposes.

Thanks for your review ! I’ve read jon_slider and zeroair reviews and their leds were fine, so I’m sorry yours wasn’t and got like that!

I’m very ambiguous about his light: it is small, it has a tail switch (not twisty or side switch), it has a good tint and seems solid. And then, that clip on the, that L-M-H-M-L UI, the memory, but specially the UI & memory…it’s killing me! I’d really like to grab one, but I guess it will be a no can do :zipper_mouth_face:

Thanks for your thoughts and analysis on the light!!

Thanks for the review.

Bummer about the burned out LED.

The UI, surprisingly short and unregulated runtimes and no NiMh support deter me from buying this light.

Yikes! … a burnt out LED!!! :confounded:

Reminds me of the Folomov 18650s with its output turning blue and dimming when used with a fresh cell (even the one that came with the light). But this is worse. At least the 18650s didn’t burn itself out.

I like Folomov’s new designs, but perhaps they might be getting a bit too adventurous in their choice of emitters.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I don’t want to say that - it’s us enthusiasts that are begging manufacturers to use more high CRI emitters. Just maybe E21A and FET were a bad choice.

Thanks for the review. I should receive my aluminum and V3 brass C1 in the next couple days. They were on Back Friday sale at Battery Junction.

I really liked V1…but the size increase really reduces its appeal.

It’s 3 mm longer…

According to Zeroair 3.9 mm. And that’s a lot for me.
Especially that they did it for a wrong reason. LED overheating? There’s probably something wrong with thermal transfer rather than mass.
This not particularly bright light probably has a shelf like Emisar D4 and much fatter than FW3A.

It hurts especially because they did quite a few things right with V1. Very few AAA lights have e-switches and this is the only one with tail e-switch.
They made the only 10440 with built-in charging. And capacity is not that far off regular 10440 (as long as it actually meets its rating).
Unibody? Great!
Compactness? Not class-leading but very good.
Looks? Nice.

With a few improvements it could be a truly awesome light. But for me they moved closer to mediocricity than to excellence.
