That may be true. But if it is they ought to be removed from the thread. Could you please list the ones that raise your suspicion? I’ll try to learn more about them…
This thread is a very interesting read.
If anyone can point me to a generic chinese ripoff of a LED lenser styled focus light, I would be interested to get one to use as a host for a custom build and replace the internals with better electronics.
The high prices of LED lenser torches really put me off buying them and the only real selling point is their focus system thats still patented.
No other zoom light ive seen gives such great spot to flood focus and most cheap optics loose light output by up to 50%.
Alot of these lights also have a terrible projection of the square LED chip that LED Lesners dont.
I cant wait until their patent expires, they must still have the best part of 10 years left?
Will be great to see other brands build on and improve the design in the future.
I’m yet to be really impressed with clone optics but it doesn’t prevent me from seeking a good one. I believe I will find it eventually, after all lens design is not that hard.
No, they are never standard. Typically the refraction part of the front surface is always convex and the reflection part has the outer edges forwards.
They sometimes have frosting on either surface.
Typically, they have a small refraction part compared to Led Lenser. The only sophistication I see on LL is careful choice of:
I’ve seen some decent led lenser clones before that actually are pretty close.
The zoom and flood worked the same, although there were more rings and aberrations and also the spot was not as tight.
