[M4D deal] Nightwatch NI40 with Luminus SBT90 Gen2 interest list OPEN

have the issues with light been fixed, 40t can fit and no switch problems ??

Some light pollution in Cell Tower pics. All illumination on tower is from NI40.

Tower is 600Y/548M Away

Temp based throttling works well on mine; after initial light activation on turbo, it starts throttling after about a 80 seconds at an indoor ambient temp of 70 degrees with no cooling fan. You can watch the lux meter drop pretty suddenly when it happens, and the light never quite gets too hot to hold. I imagine it’s about 120°f. I didnt break out my infrared temp gun but too hot to hold for me is about 130°f.

Turning it off and then on seems to reset the temp throttling for a bit- maybe it’s delayed like Tom said- because it will jump back up to the level it was at before the throttling started. Then continue to drop down fairly quickly. It will become too hot to hold after a 3rd reset.

The difference in ceiling bounce lux between the golisi 4300 mah cell and the shockli 5500 mah black label is only about 8 to 10 percent at turn on +10 seconds.

Outdoors is where the golisi shines. Since the cooling fins in the light work extremely well and it’s cold outside where I live, no thermal throttling occurs and the golisi holds more Lumens noticeably longer than the shockli. However the shockli holds a lower level longer. But that’s not what I’m after for this light, I use turbo bursts for distance when needed while out walking to check on my animals, and lesser modes up close. This is a (back) pocket light after all. Long term long range searching, like for coyote hunting, is relegated to my k75 and k70.

Overall, I like it alot- it demolishes anything else I have that will fit in my coat or back pocket, and as a bonus, the tint is nice.

I remember when 1000 lumens and 30kcd were an impressive sight for a hand held flashlight, much less one this size. My first real led light besides my surfires was a fenix mt35 and I was blown away at the performance then. This NI40 is even smaller, with 5X the lumens and 7.5x the throw!

Extra cells are easy to swap in the dark since there’s only one to fumble with, and the rear switch is easy to find in the dark compared to my thrunite cat v6.

Edited to add:
Turbo memory has quit working. Memory for every other mode works perfectly. I guess I’m fine with that, since a full turbo burst from off when not needed, when I cant remember what mode I last used us less than desirable.

Mine still steps down at 32F. That is with a Golisi. In terms of noticing the difference by eye between the Golisi and the PLB-55A cells……that will not happen with a 300 or 400 lumen difference when the lights output is 4000+.

I think you mean the Fenix TK35. MT35 is a Mateminco. My comparison light in the first set of photos.

The NI40 has 7.5X more CD than Stock TK35 Not 7.5X the throw! Big difference.

I had a modded TK35. 1000L/100Kcd.

Good job on proofreading my post! Yeah I have alot of typos since I use my phone and I dont always proofread before submitting. I’m sure my point got across.

Yes your are correct tk35 was what I meant to type, my phone autocorrected. Mine is stock. It is 30,000cd.

Yes you are also correct that what I meant was 7.5x the candela. Throw is a term that gets thrown around by me and others and I need to learn to speak more precisely and think through my chosen words carefully when having casual conversations so as to not confuse people or cause them to buy the wrong light or something, so thank you BaronVonEssler for setting me straight. Lol!

Btw that sentence was to illustrate how happy I am that our flashlights have improved to the point where I have such a powerful light in my pocket that I can use on my farm as compared the tank of a light I had available to me then.

25 years ago I had a q-beam 12 volt corded spotlight (about 1500 lumen, maybe 150,000 cd if that), and if you wanted to go out on foot with it you had to bring your own 12 volt motorcycle battery (which I did for certain things)

As far as noticing the difference between the shockli and golisi, I do, when looking at my fence line where the trees are with one vs the other. I can just make it out with the golisi, and not so with the shockli after the initial 30 second burn off of volts. It is not just 10 percent more lux on the lux meter after that, it is much more. Voltage sag is not linear as we all know. 10 percent was the figure my meter showed at 10 seconds after turn on.

It was 17°f with a slight wind blowing while out testing cells and checking my herd. The cooling fins work very well. Several times on subsequent cell changes, I would cover up the fins with my hand to see if the light got hotter faster- and it did. It makes a huge difference on the lux meter too since it never hit that abrupt throttling that it did indoors.

I think we’re going tit for tat here…

I couldn’t care less if people buy this light-other than to maybe support the guy (dunno who builds these) who is bold enough to take the 1st step of stuffing the latest and greatest hot rod leds in lights we can actually take with us- I applaud that boldness even though it is risky. But i have my light now, and it works better than expected so I’m happy. I expected this to be a hot rod that would step down faster than my fw3a on turbo, given how fast my k75 heats up and throttles, but I was pleasantly suprised, the fins work well. There are apparently some with issues…If it doesn’t fit your needs, dont buy it. You are forewarned.

What about my NI40/SBT90.2?

Neal did it again!
First it was with the Giggles … Now with this.
When the Giggles I think I was quite patient. Now, after two brain strokes, I don’t know.

I bought one NI40/SBT90.2 of the first batch.

The same day of receiving the M4D M4X mail with the link and the coupon, order #8378 (Oct 20, 2019 8:00:31 PM PDT, time of the Paypal mail ).

On October 29 I receive two emails from Neal communicating the sending of this order and a previous one, of a FW3 Ti/Cu. Both with the same tracking number. (Neal charges me $ 6 shipping fees for each package order.)
Because during the Giggles process the communication with Neal was very bad, he did not respond and if he answered it was stupid, I decided to wait for the package. That way I will get angry just once.

On November 27 I receive the package, the only thing there was a FW3 Ti/Cu. That same day I sent an email notifying the issue. Answers? None until today.

On December 1 I sent him a PM. As I did not go back to BLF until today I did not know that I had responded the same day. His response was that “the NI40 is not ship because of the shortage”.

I replied that I expected him to send it because it was one from the first batch and should have already been sent, that lot had stock.
As in my account the order appears as FULFILLED with the same tracking number of the other order, I told him that if he does not change the status, he would send a weekly reminder until it is sent.

Now… The final words for Neal (copy of the last paragraph of the sent PM).
I hope that the first NI40/SBT90.2 that you receive will send it to me (check that it works correctly) because you should have already sent it from the stock of the first batch.

PS. I will post news every time that enter the BLF or if there is any status change.

Does anyone know a good switch/spring that i could just drop in without any extra modding? I want something that will make activating turbo easier and improve performance slightly.

I'm goin with a DEL FET+1 driver and variation of his own power switch firmware for the 25/45/85. The switch itself should be fine, least that's what I'm thinking - issues are probably in the firmware. Just not much time to finish it yet - I'll report here how it works out.

It would have been soooo better/cooler with an e-switch...

Hint, hint.

From post #375

I did not receive any information about whether the order was actually shipped.
No response from Neal to the last PM (December 6).
In mi account order #8378 continues appearing FULFILLED.

The tracking number that appears corresponds to the previous order (received).

New PM sent to Neal, I hope he reads it…

Try the chat option on his site. Sometimes the respond better over there

i also wrote him to contact you

i am sorry for his silence!

Looked at that - little funky... With bypasses on springs, who knows, and things have to all be tweaked just right. Ugh.... It's interesting to see but I would not look forward trying to replicate it.

How long do these usually take to arrive to UK from nealsgadgets? , I just ordered one of the beasts

Was that a chemical de dome or sliced?

it was produced without dome ;)

Without any change in the situation.
Neal continues in radio silence.

The chat on his site requires a Fakebook account.
I don’t have a Fakebook account.
If I have to open an account on Fakebook for Neal to attend to me… “Arderá Troya!” .

I think it was Dedomed. Sliced apparently can burn at high currents.

[quote=Th558]

it is true I have burned up a couple by slicing , just takes a tiny speck of dirt on the blade or a tiny bit of thermal paste, any kind of minor contamination on the sliced surface and they just burn up

Neal didnt respond me either after many days still no reply to question, was kinda interested getting this before holidays and all but if cant get answer then i didnt chose to buy someting else not from him sadly…
