Interest collect for a new Sofirn design: tube style18650, magnetic ring control, USB-C charging, 500 lm max (AKA grandma light)

@hank&others, thanks for the research and norms, I guess then that this will not become a proper grandma light then, at least it will not be for the granniest of granniest

One of the starting points of this project is that it must be an attractive light for flashoholics too (it must be fun to give this light away with a certain proudness) , and going back (with all respect) to D-cell Maglite format whith the performance not different from a S2+ does not sound attractive to me. I must confess that my personal preference for compactness in flashlights plays a certain role here :innocent:

One of my critical features for a muggle light is a battery level indicator. Then they won’t just leave it on charge all the time. Is there any plan for aux LEDs, or some other battery indicator in this light?

In for 1! Infinite mag adjustment and E17/21 option woulf be spot on!

Oh, great, so now gramma can go die in the dark and cold…

Great! In for 3!

In for 3.

Seriously, put on your spouse’s eyeglasses and a pair of welding gloves, and see how easy it is to use the device.

We’re all in denial about what abilities we’re going to lose as we age.

Interested for 2 units.

:innocent:

In for one depending on emitter options.

A minimalistic low battery indicator makes sense for this light, people are used to such indicators already and they are very helpful.
Something like a tiny led near the charging port: off when battery level is sufficient, red blinking when battery is low and charging is adviced, red when charging, green when fully charged.

I put it on the wishlist.

In..for at least 1

Just worried about parasitic drain and the 'easyness' to open and 'replace' the battery.

I am in for one please

An idea for a battery condition /charging indicator….
When the light is turned on….
Blue light constant on (Turned off after 5s) = Battery 100~85
Blue light flashes (Turned off after 5s) = Battery 85~41
Red light constant on (Turned off after 5s) = Battery 40~16
Red light flashes all the time the light is turned on = Power less than 15%

When USB is plugged in, a constant red indicates charging taking place
When USB is plugged in, a constant blue indicates charge is complete

Sub green for blue if desired

Sounds wonderful for my own lights, but is confusing without a manual. Hence the simple red/green indicator that I described above, even without manual most will have an idea what is going on.

Interested

interested for the magnetic ring! please add me to the list!

So true. Have to be able to use it without a user guide. So few things are made like that these days. Have to keep it simple for grandpa. Wait a minute I am one @73.5 …… (most days I don’t think I feel that age, but I’ve never been this old before, so am not sure)

In for 2

Interested.
