DX XML bike light $32.39 (updated with pics)

Shadowww:

This is just another MagicShine clone, they've been the rage for years in the MTB world, but the weak spot has always been the battery pack (Oh, that and the cables/connectors that pull apart, switches that break, etc., etc.,). I've never been even tempted to buy one because the quality is so hit & miss.

I'm a complete dunce on electronics & electricity. Can you explain how you know the batteries are in series? Is it because the voltage is listed as 8.4v (series is additive voltage, right)? If that is true would these be 2s/2p configuration? I'm just curious here.

I have this light. Its 2s/2p

Ordered one, plan is to use it as headlamp and modding it to 1x18650 with a 8x7135 driver, the original switch is afaik on the driver so I am planning to use a C8 tube as battery-carrier and using the C8 switch.

How do you like it?

Given the feedback regarding charging issues and breakage, I'm thinking perhaps I should have held off.

Damn it, why do I live in this stupid country where there is no frikin PayPall

I think it is a very good deal.

I hope so. I'll let you all know once I get it in like 2 months.

At the very least, I could probably do some modding to make it better. I have read that it is a thrower (which is not surprising given the large reflector). For bike lighting, it is not the best beam, so I'm thinking of replacing with a different optic or adding a diffuser. Another alternative would be do create a multi-emitter light. I have successfully reflowed 2 x XML's onto one PCB which could be used to give more flood. All this will have to wait until I have the light in hand.

Is that this light>http://www.dealextreme.com/p/t6-waterproof-xml-t6-3-mode-1200-lumen-white-led-bike-light-with-battery-pack-set-82510

???

There is a lens made for the MagicShine bike lights that diffuses the beam wider (but apparently with some optic loss)? Here is a post about use (see the quote). Ebay link here (US Seller). Apparently also fits a C8 pretty well. I just ordered myself one for bike headlight use (and to play with). Shipped out almost immediately after the order! Expect to receive by Tuesday!

I have a couple of these, work fine so far, they are indeed throwy with too much of a hotspot for biking. I also have an MCE version with OP reflector, it's not as bright but far more useful. Swapping the OP reflector onto the XMLs does not make much difference either BTW but I cannot comment on the diffusing lens. I have been thinking about mounting all together running from a DRY driver and my own battery pack but it's not something I actually have the talent to make well.

What about just frosting the lens with glass frosting spray? Sure you'd lose a lot of throw, but wouldn't you get a whole lot of flood?

friend ordered two for me.

I had that light and I sold it, it's excellent...

@Sirius: Do you have credit cards? Imo paypal supports that..

Yes but my country hasn't yet signed a business agreement with PP so there's no "Serbia" in PP system and if you pay via PP shipping address and PP address have to be same!!!

So how much safer is it to have 18650s in parallel?

I’d say parallel cell arrangement is much more safer (as reverse charging, the main cause of cell explosions, can NOT occur with cells being in parallel).

In my experience with a Magicshine 808E... don't buy this if you have a wireless computer on your bike, it will just stop working or maybe throw random readings...

I would buy a pair, at this price is tempting, but there is no place where it can be fitted without affect the computer (I tried everything, the only safe place is the helmet but I don't think it would be a nice place, for the biker and for other drivers!), so I'll have to pass :(

yes, that is the correct one.

good idea!

It's excellent product, best light I ever had.

But it's strange that the offer is still ON? They already sold 528 pcs??? (till 24-april-2012/12:14)

Now I need only to buy a bike.....
