Jetbeam M2S LEP Pocket Thrower

today I received my Jetbeam M2S which I ordered from banggood around Christmas. I paid for that light but got a good deal thanks to M4dm4x!

The technical data is stated as follows:

- 810kcd

- 480 lumens

- 2.7h

  • 2.4 - 6.2V

Funnily the manual states 2xCR123 compatibility. As no sleeve is included that might be a rather rattly experience, if those batteries make contact at all - I will not try that.

The light comes in a protective case

The case contains the light (with one battery inside), 1(!) spare o-ring, a very short “manual” and a wrist strap.

The light is easily recognized as a Jetbeam light due to typical Jetbeam style. I did not buy the Acebeam W10 as I do not like its looks. It looks like a cheap light to me. Sure, performance is more important but I personally care for the looks as well.
It offers a simple 2 Mode UI with mode memory.

Looking into the optics you see the typical LEP design. The dust is actually on the outer lens - there is very little dust inside which can only be seen by shining another light into the optics.

The included battery can be charged via Micro USB. It has no markings, thus brand and capacity are unknown as of yet. It does not fit into my SkyRC charger to check capacity. I might hook it up to my RC Battery charger later.

Performance:

I have no doubt that Jetbeams ratings are realistic. It does outthrow my Imalent R90C but it gets trumped by my BLF GT (XHP35). This is pretty much spot on for a light with ~800kcd.

I may measure throw during the next days.

As I live in the city I can’t do thrower beamshots without harassing neighbors though. The following picture has to suffice.

Verdict:
If you like pocket throwers this is definitely the one to get. M1X or W30 have bigger heads. Sure, they are pocketable but for me they are too big to carry conveniently. If I want to carry a big light a grab the R90C

I like the design too, and this is indeed a nice pocket size for a 800kcd thrower :open_mouth: , I agree for LEP it is the best throw/size ratio.

This seems to fit in between the W10g2 and W30. I like the looks. How does the tint look? My W10 and W30 have greenish tint but I think LEP tint variation is pretty drastic.

on my unit the tint is pretty much cw with a slightly warmer corona

I’m a tint snob and very picky, but this is ok in my book (but only for throwers - I hate cw for all my other lights)

I like that it has two modes. On low, can it be used to shine at something 5 feet away? Or is the hot spot still so intense that it hurts the eye? Does the switch have momentary on?

It has a forward clicky, so yes, momentary is possible but this will also switch modes. I would have been okay with single mode - as for throwers this is basically all I need.
I would love to have the option of choosing between 1-mode and 2-mode by a series of rapid clicks (20+) or a similar method.

Low can be used 5ft in front of you, but the hotspot is very small and still kinda intense, thus I would rather pick my D4 for that task.

Could you get some more photos of night shots?
Would be helpful for hundreds of people wanting to get one.

Yep, anybody can post some more pics, my m1x is on its way, and so far not many beamshots out there…
The thrill of the wait and expectation…

Nice… Not to hot of a flashlight or hard to find any info on it I should say… Not a single Youtube vid… but I like my Jetbeams… Never had one fail! Had many Nitecores take a crap… Thanks for sharing!

Mine showed up today… I said WOW what a light package!! Then said I thought they put zip ties on these and what would you know an empty box.!!! :rage: :rage: :rage:

SO………. UPSET!!! Just emailed BANGGOOD about this… Tried to look up weight but it doesn’t show… Just says Lightweight…

Did anyone actually measure theirs?

Mine doesn't hit 800Kcd by far.

It does 'only' about half of that

.

Hi Chibim!

at which distacnce did you take your measurement?

i received a loaner this week
will try and measure the kcd asap

Hi,

I measured it this time at 10 meters.

Although it performs about the same as the Fenix TK30, I expected much higher numbers.

Mine did 413,000 cd instead of the claimed 800,000.

If I know other people's measurements I can decide whether mine is really faulty or not. Looking forward to your measurements. thanks

From a banggood review:

Measured at 5.5m

W30: 130 000 lux
M2S: 30 000 lux
GT Mini: 12 000 lux

The OP claims it outthrows his imalent R90C which is rated at 1679m but one bg reviews say it’s outperformed by even the T7L 1100m. What if the first few samples performed better for some reason? The rating does seem a lot higher than similarly sized LEP lights so it could just be overrated. LEPs I guess are hard to focus cause sometimes they perform much better than the rating . Some ppl measured 2.2

  • 2.3Mcd on the M1X

Yes, my M1X measured at 2.3Mcd, but the M2S is only doing just over 410Kcd, while it is supposed to do 800Kcd

Hopefully, there are more people sharing their insight as I'm very curious on how good/bad/normal 410kcd is.

I don't say 410 kcd is bad for this type of light, I just expected way better.

the weather was nice to me...
at each distance i took 3 values (15 sec) - the highest made it into the list below

Thank you. So my measurement are comparable to yours. I wonder if both of us have a faulty one or if this normal. I hope more people can measure theirs and chime in to triple check.

Thanks again for testing.

you are welcome!

Is Jetbeam spoofing the cd values?

I would like to know that as well ;)

anybody else can chime in on the M2S?
