TrustFire TR-J12 5*CREE XML T6 from DX MF and KD

Yes, either the DRY or SR King. Both are pretty compact, and bright as hell.

TR-J12 at the beach… sounds like you are already a flash addict

Lol. I just got the torch and was very careful with it. I covered it with bubble wrap to stop it from collecting sand but encounted strong winds so it didn't help.

My to do list now is to:

1. Upgrade the TR-J12 if possible

2. Fix my old 3D maglite (or mod it somehow)

3. Purchase a thrower! (<$90) - Any recommendations? lol

4. And a mini pocket sized one

SkyRay STL-V2 or DeereeLight DBS V3 aspheric.

I too have this question - it's what finally sold me on the 3T6, and it would probably be a dealbreaker for J12 (for me)....

OR RATHER, how low a voltage will the driver take and still turn on the light at a reasonable output?? Will the light fire on a single 18650/26650? (I read through a few pages in this thread but havn't see the "single cell" test mentioned anywhere - SURELY someone has done it....)

SkyRayCrap wouldn't fire at low voltages (protection/out of driver range, I don't remember).

Manafonts price has dropped to $72.99 a few months ago maybe the opening post should update the price's from all the sellers listed ?

EF=69.88$,I think they have some good price...and anyone please let us know how is the transaction with them...

Well I got my J12. But when I tried to screw extension tube on to the main tube the O-ring didn't fit properly and I kind of mangled it. It was really tight, even well lubed. Anyone else have this problem? And does anyone know where I can buy a properly sized replacement o-ring from?

Thanks for any help!

Sean

Bearing shops here in Australia are a good source of cheap o'rings.

Thats where i get mine from

I am still very curious if the J12 will start/run on one 4.2v cell like its younger sibling the 3T6 ?
(yes, I realize due to amp draws thats not exactly wise.. but still good enough for low/medium in a pinch)

I'm trying to decide between the two lights (only have the budget to get one right now), and being able to run on a AA's in a pinch is a pretty nice feature of the 3T6.... but the J12 is brighter!

Benkie has both these torches. He may answer here or you could search for his opinions.

I've read his reviews on both, but hadn't yet seen it noted on the J12 (he was the one that mentioned it on the 3T6).

Anyone know what size the o ring is for the J12?

Does 30mm sound right?

Yes the TR-J12 and the TR-3T6 will run on 1 cell, but it will be in Dim mode. Dim mode is where the light warns you the batteries are flat and to change them, it does this by dimming (dropping light out put) and or locking modes, it is like a low voltage warning. In Dim mode the TR-3T6 on one cell will try and draw 6 amps and the TR-J12 will try and draw up to 14 amps. IMO its not recommended to run the lights in dim mode for to long and at such high current draw with the torch out of regulation its most likely where then driver's will fail.

much appreciated benckie.

who boy, that's a lot of amps, even spread out over 4 AA's... guess no matter which one i get, I should stick to the 18650s :)

My J12 from DX just got shipped out. Hopefully I receive it soon. I cant wait. Someone mentioned that there were fakes out there. Oh man, i feel like im gonna get a fake. What meter is good to get for measuring the voltage and lux? any suggestions? thanks. ^_^

Another contender 5 x T6 $69.99 shipped

TrustFire TR-J16 Cree XM-L T6 5-LED 4500-Lumen 5-Mode Memory Flashlight - Titanium Finish (2/3*18650)

Hi guys, it’s been a steep learning curve since I’ve joined this forum.

I can buy this beast at a store in Saigon (Vietnam) and considering using this as a monster bike light.

Am I right in assuming if I use the 2 x 26650 trustfire batteries in series (4300mAh) at 7.5A per hour on high I would get just over an hours worth of service?

Sounds decent if that’s the case, especially when it can be used in medium for longer runtimes.

Your math is wrong but you would average 1 hour on 2 x 26650 and 2 hours on 3 x 26650 on high, but medium or low mode should be more then enough light and run time would be much higher.
