I bought some 5800K, then some 3400K when it became available so now i want the 2300K but would like to wait for the 4000K if there is a chance they'll be available soon.

4000k samples is still on its way to djozz for testing.

I don’t know in which pile in which part of the world they are but this package is really slow, sorry about that. I will check them as soon as they get in.

I’d be interested in 4000K / 4500K / 5000K if any of those became available… :innocent:

Finally the 4000K samples arrived. And these are a surprise. I checked 3 leds at 30mA.

*First, they are not 4000K but 5000K, what is a disappointment because that makes them less special.

*The beam is nice and smooth, I checked three leds, and there are no visible tint shifts over the beam, one of the 3 leds has a slight unevenness in the hotspot, which would annoy a purist but does not affect a normal user. The other two beams were perfectly smooth.

*output: 15 lumen at 50mA, 120mA does not kill the led. (no output curve is not measured yet)

*Tint and colour rendering, see for yourself:
Led1 CCT=4960 duv=+0.0009 CRI=98.6 R9=98.3 R12=79 Rf=93.7 Rg=100.8
Led2 CCT=5000 duv=+0.0013 CRI=98.4 R9=98.3 R12=88 Rf=93.7 Rg=100.6
Led3 CCT=4960 duv=+0.0014 CRI=98.5 R9=97.7 R12=81 Rf=94.2 Rg=100.9

So tint very close to the BBL, and extreme good colour rendering.

So another great led from rngwn, but unfortunately not the expected 4000K

The beam btw is much narrower than the Yuji leds, maybe this is a 30 degrees led. Beam (30mA) at 30cm from wall:

On my tablet it looks like the center is a bit rosier and the edge a bit greener, this is not what I see in reality, as posted above there is no obvious tint shift at all in the beam.

5000K is a bit far off for the 4000K declared. But you can always mix them.

How does this led compare to rngwn’s other leds? Do the other leds have a lower CRI or are brighter?

The closest previous 5mm led from rngwn was a 5800K one, a short test elsewhere in this thread: link. I’d say it is about equally good, output slightly less, colour rendering slightly better. But I like the narrower beam of this new 5000K led a lot, makes a very useful beam that is a bit brighter.

Here are the two leds together plugged in parallel into the same power supply, 60mA among them. That tells that the voltage can not be much different as the outputs a similar ( but I think the 5000K voltage is a bit higher so that it receives a bit less than half of the current) :

The tints in the picture came out rather close to reality (on the screen of my Sony phone at least).

But hey, the good thing is that 3xAAA lights are wide enough for 21700 cells. :slight_smile:
With some wizardry it is often quite possible to get all 70 millimeters in there too.
But sub C NiMH cells now have become interesting too.

Gives you enough space for a boost driver (which you’ll need).

Not what i personally hoped for, but should do a decent distance with a bunch of them (> 20 LEDs) together.

I guess you could dedome these to get less (or no) throw.

The output is similar to the others at least, was not planning a test these days, maybe later.

Well, after the recent bunch of lost mails so it’s time for to set up a ground rules of how much I can comfortably compensate for the loss. I have modified the shipping table so it includes the information on how the compensation will be made should the package is lost. The rule will be in effect from today onwards (Jan 21, 2020).

This does not apply to those who paid before that, which they are in for 1 additional shipping attempt if I know convincingly that the package is lost.
