[New] Lumintop Tool AA 2.0 Ti

It has, along with the FW1A Pro. Already swapped the Ti body and deep carry clip from my FW3T and added a stainless bezel on the FW1A Pro. Also swapped the black clip instead of the ugly gold, think it matches MUCH better imo.

Was going to swap the Nichia emitter from my daughter’s Tool HM Kit but noticed the heads are different. The Ti Tool head is two pieces, and looks like there is two tabs that hold the pill in place. I tried to see if the pill in the Ti Tool was removable but it didn’t budge and I didn’t want to damage the head tool that came in the kit.

At least they didn’t glue the pieces of the head together. MCPCB looks easily accessible.

Tail cap is not glued either. Removed the lighted button and transparent switch cover also. Used the standard ones from my daughter’s panda Tool. She likes the lighted switch and gold clip better than me anyway.

Besides the head design, the Ti version is identical to the aluminum version.

It would appear that it's not only Lumintop that has started shifting their XPL-HD flashlights to use XP-L2 LEDs, without informing about the changed specifications. I've also seen one Astrolux S1, which is supposed to use XPL-HD, but that Astrolux S1 now uses XP-L2 (brighter on Turbo mode, but also gets hot much faster than the Astrolux S1 with XPL-HD), plus the XP-L2 has a somewhat worse looking beam pattern..

Received mine today. Switched the clip from a black Tool to the titanium Tool and now both lights look better in my opinion.

With a Efest purple 650mah imr14500 I got 850 lumens on high.
Pretty nice Ti light, it is just a exact copy of the aluminum version though.
It has the reverse polarity brass ring around the positive contact of the driver that prevents the light from working if the battery is inserted backwards.
That also means that flat top battery’s do not work in this light. I tried a flat top Vapcell 14500 and it wouldn’t work.
Button tops work fine. The machining seems quite good.
I’m not a fan of memory, would prefer to always start in low.

Just got mine in today. Initial impressions are good. Machining seems very nice, threads are smooth. The LED is definitely too cool for my tastes and will need replacement. The included pouch was a nice touch.

I’m curious if the clip might truly be gold plated. I’m far from an expert in these things, but I gave it a 30 minute bath in lye (drain cleaner) and there wasn’t any sign of chemical reaction going on. I pulled the clip out and the golden plating looked no worse for the wear. So much for stripping it :person_facepalming:

Got my Tool AA Ti, good little light, disappointed that I can’t use the nichia pill from the Tool AA HM kit in it. Looks like I’m gonna have to keep practicing soldering, which hasn’t worked out too well yet!

Have put the black clip from the HM set on the Ti tool as well, not keen on the gold one, I’m sure it will work on another light just not sure which.

Agree, i am very happy with it, but the tint is way too cool, looks almost blue compared to all my 4000 K 219c’s.

Maybe they are willing to sell the mcpcb with LED alone?
They recently released the Nichia version of the Tool AA ti…

Just assembled it again, forgot to measure the diameter of the MCPCB, maybe Kaidomain’s 10 mm MCPCB’w will fit ?

Yay! Just received my Ti Tool the other day and quite happy with it. Now that I have have them Al/Ti side by side, I can definitely say that while this being my first and likely last Ti flashlight, it's definitely a keeper, a must have :) No way I could do without this one :))

Now..

1st.. STUPID, STUPID XP-L2!. Why ?!? :| Had to go, obviously. Took an XP-L from one of my previous Al Tool AA which got a 219C "sidegrade" and popped it right in place of the awful XP-L2 that it came with. Also, note that the Ti has a copper MCPCB whilst the Al Tool AA's have aluminum ones, which I'm quite happy about. For whatever reason, my tool Ti gets pretty much as hot as my Al ones and quite as fast, although.. I knew Titanium had roughly 10 times less the thermal conductivity of Aluminum.. (?) Both the Ti and Al Tools had an upgrade to AS5 thermal compound, since I've got them open and fiddled with the emitters, so, only difference was the MCPCB'S at this point - with this setup both ran as hot and got there as fast as one another.

The rubber boot on the Ti's tail cap is translucent and thinner so it would let the blue LED's shine through. On the plus side, the boot is now always under the flush level so you can tail stand the Ti every single time, unlike the Al ones, on which the rubber boot always gets bulged around half a mm above the tail cap tabs and always wiggles while tail standing, if tail standing at all if that bulge is even bigger. Downside, while pressing the switch on the Ti, the rubber boot kinda gets squished in a weird way and basically prevents you from preparing down the switch, or at least makes it very difficult.

Tail cap tabs aren't filed on the inside, thus they are sharp and if you have sensitive enough fingers, with lots of presses, you may get discomfort or blistering or even a cut.

I am wondering, if you are using an AA 1.2/1.5V cell, obviously the tail LED's won't light up, but will there still be any parasitic drain still ? If anyone knows, I'd like to know myself. I'm not sure how the diodes are going, if they'll still show a "parasitic" resistance in the circuit while under their Vf junction threshold or whatever is it called..

Gold pocket clip: I know most people hate it, but I think I quite like it. At least it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I may prefer a cyan or some form of blue over the gold one, but I'm definitely not loosing any sleep over it.

The threads are greased, but they are not smooth, not even close by comparison to the Al Tool.

Will probably edit later on if anything else comes to mind.

I received my Tool AA Ti in the mail this afternoon. Immediately after opening it, I was very pleased. The light feels robust, the machining is good, and the threads are very smooth for a titanium light.

Unfortunately, my reception to my new light soured the instant I powered it on. Yuck! Not only was the CCT far too cool, but the tint shift was horrible. Not 30 Minutes after receiving it, I went in for an emitter swap.

The emitter is fixed to a non standard shaped board, but I was able to cut and file a Kaidomain 16mm star to fit. In order to get everything to button up nicely, I also had to take a bit of height off of the centering ring.

My Tool Ti now wears a 3,000K SST20 and the beam is fantastic. It certainly throws further now, but I am indifferent towards that.

I also am not pleased with the driver. When using a 14500, the low mode is far too high (16 lumens!), though now mine has an SST20, it is probably a bit less than that, but still, too bright. The driver seems to be another bespoke part, so I doubt I will be able to swap it for something more capable.

I just got mine and using fresh off the charger eneloop and an Efest IMR 14500 600mAh 9.75A cell. I measured 4.9A and 2.19 A on high and .05A and .06A on low. The low on the IMR was a lot brighter. I Like it so far I like lights I can just throw in my pocket and not worring about scratching up. :wink:

I’ve used a 14500 in mine every day since I got it a little over a month ago and have had ZERO issues. Granted I don’t use turbo for long periods of time, usually I use medium or high. In the case that I do use turbo it’s usually for less than one minute.

Yup, same here. I’m using 14500 but aware of the limitations of titanium and only use turbo for a minute or two at a time.

All the same, it’s disturbing what happened during your runtime tests, ChibiM.

It's a shame though, that you can't really use Turbo with 14500 for too long.
