Lumileds Luxeon CZ

“LUXEON CZ Color Line is an optically advanced portfolio of Color and White LEDs. Designed to maximize punch”
Lumileds has a line of Colour LEDs that’s new to me. They wouldn’t be interesting to me but they also have some white ones.

  • 2020 package with isolated thermal PAD
  • optimised for high intensity
  • About 1 mm² die
  • CRI 70-90
  • easily available now

OK, it won’t challenge Osram White Flat when it comes to intensity. There are other Luxeon models that might. But this LED comes with high CRI options making it an interesting counterpart to Luxeon Z / Luxeon Z ES.

I found a compatible MCPCB (actually with a Luxeon C LED soldered):

Another MCPCB source:

These MCPCBs are 50 cents a piece:

They even add a lime LED for free.
Shipping is cheap within USA but over $16 to my place.
I’d gladly get several…

Hmm… The thermal pad is really narrow, of course, since it’s only a 2020 size LED.
It’s only 0.6mm wide…
0.6 x 1.8 mm thermal pad.

Indeed. Still, there’s a good chance it’s the throwiest CRI90 LED out there.

This looka interesting...

BTW, I did some comparisons on how much output do you lose by going 3500-4000K with CRI80-90 for several emitters.

Luxeon CZ CRI80 3500K is merely 2.6% less efficient than CRI70 5000K (or any available CRI70 CCT).
BTW, the losses of E21A and Luxeon Z ES for CRI80 are under 10% as well.

JaredM has tested them:
