Do you care about famous people passing away ?

Not caring for celebrities dying is normal. It wouldn’t be normal if you cared.
Not caring for close people dying is not normal.
Another fact, is that famous people are usually psychopaths. That’s why they end up famous in the first place, by stepping on others and not caring of others, including close relatives. Like this Kobe guy, not giving a sh… for this parents.
Another fact is that psychos are very good at fooling people that they do care, or that they live perfect lifes, when in fact their life is a struggle to keep appearances

pretty much all famous Hollywood actors are psychopaths
( but i can still enjoy watching them in good flicks! )

I think it all depends on WHO passes away.

I care about a lot of celebrities, but there are plenty I don't care about as well.

If you’ve ever had a very close person pass away and had to be notified of it happening you know that hearing it on the TV or seeing it on the Internet before you can get official word would be devastating.

Bad enough having to get the news officially, very hurtful to get it secondarily…

I don’t care any more than if I hear about some random person passing away that I don’t know. Celebrities don’t know me, and I don’t know them apart from what they want me to know. They couldn’t care less when I die, so we certainly don’t have a 2-way friendship or anything even remotely like that. Frankly, my concern for them is about the same as their concern for me.

It must kind of suck for the families of the other 7 people on that helicopter. Only 2 people seem to matter to the media; the others are barely worthy of a footnote.

I suppose it’s not surprising that the media idolizes celebrities and pushes that on the masses. It sells clicks, and many in the media probably consider themselves celebrities and thus worthy of the same kind of idolization.

All that said, I do care when someone of value to civilization passes away. Someone that did good for society. It’s a loss. That doesn’t include someone that looks good, or can pretend to be someone important, or can throw a ball, etc.

Celebrities? No. Them dying and clouds floating by is all the same to me, doesn’t affect my life.

People that did good things? Absolutely. For example, RIP Leonel Brizola, the Brazilian president that never was.

That just means you’ve never developed an emotional connection over sports, music or other forms of entertainment. For those who do, the athletes, musicians or actors involved can become enough a part of their life that the individual feels like they know said celebrity as closely as they do other individuals in their lives.

There can also be a realization regarding the nature of our mortality. I’m of an age where the rock stars of my youth are starting to drop like flies. Music was a large part of many of our lives growing up, and coming to grips with the fact that nothing lasts forever can be a bit jarring.

Last week Terry Jones
He had me laughing many times over the years, and will continue to do so.

Nope.

Hard no. Is he a better human because he was born with the ability to play basketball? Let’s not even go into the whole sexual assault thing, He’s done some good work since then, but people die, that’s what they do. It’s often sad when that happens. As a FF/EMT ( Firefighter emergency medical person for those outside US) I have seen young people die and have horrible injuries, Young parents get cancer, head injuries, little kids get horrible diseases, It’s a shit show out there. So yeah, it sucks that him and a bunch of other people died in that crash, but I got over it, because that happens all the time.

Some people are famous, and some people aren't.

The media covers famous people.

That's how the world works.

And the comment "I suppose it’s not surprising that the media idolizes celebrities and pushes that on the masses. It sells clicks, and many in the media probably consider themselves celebrities and thus worthy of the same kind of idolization." does not make any sense.

They report what sells, and what is newsworthy.

It's as simple as that.

It really depends on who it is. So far in my lifetime, a celebrity dying has only affected me a few times. All of the times it has bothered me was because they were someone who I looked up to when I was a child.
Kobe’s passing did affect me, as I’m 6 years younger than him, and Itried (obviously not very well lol) to imitate his every move on the court from the time I was in 6th grade to my senior year of H.S.
This was before the rape allegations, and Kobe was considered a squeaky clean role model, and the next coming of MJ.

The reason we can see so far is because we are standing on the shoulders of those who came before us.
(quote from a deceased famous person)
Than is why I chose sometimes.

I know Kobe was a big loss for the sport so those who follow the team or the series will be more effected by this loss. When I heard about it and what they were doing I felt more sorrow for the youth lost in the accident. The daughter and her friends. My prayers are with them all.

Depends who it is, of course. Some deaths, it’s like reading an entry in an encyclopædia, ie, has no impact whatsoever. Other times, it’s a kick in the nuts especially after you hear the reason why for the death.

Eg, Peter Tomarken. Game-show host of “Press Your Luck”, if anyone recalls.

He and his wife were members of “Angel Flight”, who’d use their own private plane, on their own dime, to do things like transport patients in dire need to various hospitals. They were both on their way to transport a patient when their plane lost power and crashed, and both he and his wife were killed.

So, someone who can just throw/hit/kick a ball better’n other people, well, yeah, any death is tragic, but you just read the story and then move on to the weather or puzzle-page or whatever.

Who dat? She a dead psychopath or something?

My take is that death is an enemy to all people.
It’s better to live for something than die for nothing- George Patton.

I”m just worried that at some point rich famous powerful people will stop dying (due to some expensive medical discovery).

For the most part, only if I cared about them when living.

I like that answer.
