WTS/GB: [4000k ARRIVED, Test Report's In] GT-FC40 (a.k.a. XHP70's flattop, 12v 40w sister) 95 CRI, Available in 4000k, 5000k

Wow you found a perfect fit spacer too. Where did you get the spacer?

It comes with the host

It is sized for XHP70.2?

Long version Manta Ray C8.2 black flashlight host

Yes, check in the item description. Make sure you take the 10mm reflector option.

I bought the short version though. They also come with XHP70.2 gasket.

Edit: you want to wick off the excess solder blob on the sides of the emitter, or else the gasket won’t fit.

What the heck, i'll take another one.

I have found two more hosts that are suitable for this 12V led. It works nicely inside the Sofirn C8G and the Haikelite SC26.

As the Sofirn C8G and the Haikelite SC26 both use a XHP35 they both have a 12V boost driver.

The SC26 originally uses a 16mm PCB but if you cut a bit of copper away where the switch board is to make sure they don’t contact a 20mm works fine.

The C8G does not use the standard 20mm PCB size so the GT-FC40 20mm MCPCB has to be trimmed to 17-18mm until it fits the PCB cavity.

What you need to do is swap the reflectors for others with a bigger 10mm opening for the 7070 led format. I have used OP reflectors to smooth the beam a bit which can be ringy because of the individual dies on the led.

In the C8G I have used this kind of reflector: C8 reflector 10mm led opening

This reflector fits perfectly in the Haikelite SC26 with 7070 led: kaidomain.com/Flashlight-DIY-and-Tools/Reflectors/29_6mm-x-24mm-Aluminum-Reflector-for-CREE-XHP70

I really like the tint and color rendering of these two flashlights now. It is much better than with the XHP35. Of course they won’t throw as far anymore but still decent enough and with 95CRI. :sunglasses:

Good Job! Looks very nice! Thanks for sharing.

I notice that Getian has also a 50W LED.
Does it have XHP70 footprint as well? Is it also high CRI? Any chance for a GB?

I think they are one and the same as this 40W emitter, and I remembered they even listed 60w with the same number of die and footprint (also with less lm/w, which confirms my suspicion).

As Djozz have tested, these “40w” parts could easily be run at 60w (as long as you can cool it), and might even survive a brief period (minutes) of 100w without degradation.

I see…but why have different model numbers? Pure marketing “We have a model tailored to your needs”?
That’s very possible but maybe it would be good to ask for clarification?

If anyone wants to sell me one of their unused ones PM me.

D80v2 with GT-FC40 4000K and 20mm MTN-BST3 driver, reamed reflector (probably more than necessary)

High (stock lens)
High (with diffused lens)

Need another one of these.

Has anyone tried this emitter with convoy 22mm 1 Cell 2.3A boost driver?

Or which driver for best performance?

Thinking of building either a M21C or manta ray C8.2

I did tried that exact same convoy driver at some point on C8.2, though the stock host doesn’t give good enough contact and I can’t go into turbo as a result.

I did later try to bypass the terminals with solder braid. With Liitokala 5000mAH, it worked when fully charged, but will drop out of turbo on 50-75% SoC. After a while, I recklessly try to go into turbo repeatedly and probably eventually killed the driver with the transient after 100th attempt or so. To sum it up, if I want to use that driver again, I will probably need a higher drain battery or better bypass mod. Handling 10+ amps from a single cell is no joke here.

Alternatively, there’s a GB attempt by nzoomed. It’s a driver that could potentially drive the emitter at 50W out of single cell.

Got another GT and straight mod exactly.

Convoy M21C with Convoy XHP35 driver and FC40 paired with Convoy OP reflector.

Bloody awesome!!

Are these still available?

L - FC40

R - Stock XHP70.2 5000K

Still have a fair bit left, interested?
