Test/review of Electronic load ZKE EBD-USB

On 10 it is easier:
Use device manager, first select “Show hidden devices”, then you can right click on each and just remove it.

The new download URL for the PC software is:

the English software version is marked “eb_setup_v1.8.5en_20190301.exe”

Thanks for the update! Any major changes?

I haven’t used the tester in years. I can’t see any major changes in the software.

Sometimes it’s getting worse

Better change hardware. Look here

Looks like a good load for sure, but not great for USB tests.

Yeah, it lacks connectors, but not big deal when you have time to do some soldering.

Even then, anything with quick charge won’t communicate well - but it’s an interesting load I haven’t seen before. Thanks!

Hi friend. I have ebd-usb+. But i have a big problem. I changed the calibration setting of the device. But dont fix it.Can the device be reset? Can it be restored to its initial settings? Can you help me pls.

How did you calibrate it?

If you use the EBD-USB+ software (EB Tester), I think in the Calibration menu, there is a Reset button — have you tried it?
(I have not personally tried calibrating or resetting my EBD-USB+ though, so kindly report here if the Reset button did something for your unit).

EB Tester software has another update (it now indicates Build 2020-01-01) - as usual no changelog and likely just some very minor unspecified changes since the executable file seems to still be similar file size)

(when installing, I find that you need to uninstall or rename/delete the old EB.exe file (default in C:\Program Files (x86)\ZKETECH\ folder), otherwise, it didn’t seem to update my previous EB Tester Software even when it appears to install successfully…)

I have a couple of questions ( for HKJ ) about this tester for batteries is possible to just use the current measuring capabilities of this tester with out using the on board load ?

How easy would it be to power the battery voltage separately from the battery tester from the USB connector to the computer

Thanks for your time

Easy, it has a USB output for that purpose.

? The computer connection is separate from the measurement input and output, but there is a common ground connection.

The reason I was asking about if the load of the tester could be disabled is because what I have in mind doing is setting up a battery backup power supply charging and discharge logger for power supply output

I have there battery tester machine and just love using it for that purpose but I do not want to modify this tester
I would prefer to use this device and modify it for the purpose that I was just talking about

Thanks for answering my question this helps

Would this interfere with using more than one EBD USB tester in series with a common ground is there a way to isolate the common ground and the tester to work correctly

I did some measuring between two separate EBC-A10H units and the grounds connected will not let do this without using two different computers then I could use it in series to test BMS balancing board like I want to do

I am a little disappointed that I can not do this with a single computer but I can work around this inconvenience

I now have to buy two of EBD USB units and make a setup for this type of testing

And do some testing once I get everything setup I will post the results when I have the test results finished

I was using the EB software yesterday and this is the first time I have had software not wanting to work correctly at all

First it would show on the computer screen that the unit was connected when unit screen would not show connect to PC
Or
The computer screen would show that it was not connected but the unit screen would show that it was connected to the PC
Or
If both would agree that it was connected the unit would not turn on the load

Or if the unit turned on the screen would not show any load being applied but shows voltage readings but no graph movements on either voltage or current

So I would turn the unit off and wait 30 second and turn it back on then it refused to connect unplugged the USB dong and reconnect it still would not do anything finally got it to work

For one battery test on unit One but then the same exact thing would happened to unit 2

So I restarted the computer and both units and everything seemed to work okay after that

I seem little cliches with this software before but not like this before and I have used it before in marathon runs for a week or two using it 10 hours days and sometimes even more hours running than that and had not this much problems with it

Yes this time it has been on a three week marathon or longer more hours running events so I do not know if this has something to do with it or not

One note the computer and the battery testing units are on a battery backup unit and the computer is running 24 hours a day and the battery testing units are also running 24 hours a day

One other note the computer is set up so the computer screen shuts down after 6 hours but the hard drive is not suppose to shutdown but I think I might have caught it shutdown when it was not suppose to be so I am not sure if it might be a computer issue causing the problems

sam_sam_sam,

I’ve also had the EBD-USB+ load meter/tester act up a bit before, but my guess is that either:

  • the COM port was not assigned correctly (or the computer forgot the correct setting) (I sometimes hibernate my PC instead of shutting down, and when the PC is woken up from hibernation, the COM port assignment may be jumbled?)
  • the micro-USB data cable may be loose, and got unplugged/replugged for a short moment

As you also experienced, restarting the PC and reconnecting does solve the issue.

I have the EBD-USB + model and used to make a battery pack to test the results of good these batteries are and how well this tester works I have the EBD-USB + model and used to make a battery pack to test the results of good these batteries are and how well this tester works

This is the battery pack module out of a Black-Web battery pack ( which did not give me the running time that was shows on the data plate) and the case for the batteries are from a Ryobi 40 volt case ( that the batteries went bad ) modified and new / remove battery pack that are surplus

In the top picture is the battery pack and the tester and the USB charger
The first picture of the graft is the test results of the battery pack
The second picture of another graft is the result of the battery only having 15% charge on it

One note the blips that you see in the second graft ( on the right side of the picture) is me moving the charger back and forth so could take the picture of all devices in one photo

Repurposed both items

Now this battery pack has the running time results that I was looking for 17 amp hours ( 17 hours of running at a 1 amp load

This USB tester made testing this battery pack very easy to do

I used the USB tester on my iPad and found out something interesting about how this tablet controls the charger to charge battery

Every 2 to 3 minutes it spikes the the current up to ( 100 to 150 milliamperes for about a second then it goes back to level that it started from before the spike

The iPad had 75% charge on the battery at the time I started the charger unit it got to 97% charged

The power supply for the USB tester is on a 5 amp switching power supply the same one that I ran the test on the USB power supply that I just put together that I posted above

I have also had a bad issue when trying to run two ZKE USB + devices at the same exact time with one doing load test and the other one using the meter function

If you only have one program open it flashes the meter screen every second

There is a work around for this problem

But you have to open another screen so basically you have the same program with two separate screens running at the same time and minimize both screens so you can see what each device is doing at the same exact time ( as you can see in the picture above )

This works very well

I will probably use this setup when charging two batteries at the same time so I can see both them at the same exact time with one screen so do not have switch back and forth between devices

One note this computer that this software run on it what this computer main function
is for battery testing only the screen is a LCD television screen ( mounted on the wall ) but it has a computer screen hook up function if I remember correctly I think it a “32” inch set it big enough for me to see the screen at the door way of my office

There is an interesting story about this LCD television screen I bought it when Radio Shack was still in business and it worked great for a couple of years then it developed capacitor ides and the set would not turn off like it should either with the on / off button on the set or with the remote so I recapped the switching power supply and the controller board and all the function worked correctly but because it was in my office and it really was not used much and I bought these battery testing machine and was using a very small computer screen and I had this set one day when I was putting together this computer for the battery testing machines I tried this LCD television screen to see how well it would work and very pleased with the results

This computer is not hooked to internet unless I hook the Ethernet cable to the router

The reason for this is that this computer run 24 hours a day for weeks in a row and I just using this computer for data logging purposes so I do not want my computer hacked while I am not using it on the internet

One other note when I am on the the internet I go with the assumption that I could be hacked but I want to on it when it happens

May not be the solution, but may be worth testing.

Your EBD-USB program version seems quite old.

The latest version as of now appears to be dated 2020-02-15

can download it from the ZKE-Tech official site: “EB Software(English Version).rar”
