Sofirn SP10 Pro (AA/14500/Andúril 2) - now available!

This project has had persistent interest with not a lot of updates for months. AA/14500 may not be the height of flashaholic fashion (flashion?) but it seems a durable and timeless choice for every day needs.

Shockli 14500 5A 1000mAh

i just received these, ordered them in anticipation of this flashlight, don’t let me down Sofirn

Where did you get them with shipping to Belgium? I’m trying to find who ships them to Bulgaria, no success so far.

I got them from the Shockli aliexpress store

2 weeks to Belgium

Thanks, doesn’t work for me :frowning:

So are these the same as the black Shockli 14500 1000mah cells that previously said 3A max on them? The listing you linked still says 3A, and the ones I ordered from Amazon say 3A, but the cell testing shows they obviously perform above 3A… I’m assuming they just changed the wrap? Maybe Simon from Shockli can comment… interesting.

You have to understand what the amp readings mean. Normally when a battery is rated with a number it will either be max continuous or max pulse. Max continuous means it’s put on a special machine that applies a 3A load and constantly maintains the same 3A from 4.2v all the way down to 2.8v and the temperature of the cell never exceeds it’s safe max temperature (typically 60°C-70°C. Each model cell has it’s factory specs).

What this means is that the cell can pull more than 3A, just for a shorter amount of time or if the temperature is monitored.

Looking at the Shockli picture it says Max: 5A
It does not give any real details if that is max continuous or max pulse.

I see HKJ has tested the version that says 3A max and found it to handle 5A max continuous. I’m guessing Shockli changed the wrapper to 5A since the 3A rating was too conservative.

I’m sure the actual manufacturer of the batteries stated 3A when they were selling in bulk to Shockli, then they saw the review by HKJ and decided to update the wrap
Still no idea who the manufacturer is, and why are they selling these nice cells to only 1 company.

Interested.

Does it come with the clear plastic case?

Yes it does, the batteries are wrapped in plastic wrap, and put in a plastic box. same as my shockli 26650 :+1:

Interested for sure

Any updates on this recently? After using the SP10B and SP10S regularly for a while now I’d like to see an SP10S v2 to tide us over :innocent: . For me, an SP10S with mode memory and shortcut to moon (on NiMH) would be perfect.

Unfortunately I don’t think this project is going forward. There are no updates for a while now, which can mean only one thing.
It’s a shame that small form-factor lights are kind of neglected in the last year or two. Especially now since we have 14500 batteries with real 1000mAh and 5A constant current draw potential.
Even large-scale manufacturers don’t have any new 14500 lights.

Lumintop, Wuben, Skilhunt, Manker have some, but others as Olight or Nitecore don’t. Olight missed the opportunity to make a nice 14500 light with the recent i5T EOS, despite it seems a good AA light.
The problem is… the UI in all of them is not what we, as flashlaholics, are searching for!

That’s the reason why the project would also stand out…

Completely missed it until early today but the Skilhunt M150 looks pretty good, emitter swap is a must though!

Edit: actually I saw your awesome review but must have forgotten about the light

What is the closest AAA/10440 light with Anduril equivalent to the SP10S BLF? (Probably doesn’t exist). I wish more manufacturers would focus on supporting 10440 or 14500 batteries, especially with drivers that wouldn’t convert most of the energy to heat with a fully charged 4.2V battery.
