SNEAK PEEK AT DX JM05 CLONE

I recently received my DX JM05 clone. LINK My first impressions are fairly favourable. Compared to the last light I acquired, which was the Keygos M10 it falls a little short. Quality wise in terms of anodising and machining it's a little rougher than my other 26650 lights(Keygos, Shadow, Fandyfire), but still acceptable. I like the design and it feels great in the hand, but most importantly it's as bright as the others. The beam profile is very similar to the M10, which uses a similar reflector. The head appears to be bigger due to the aluminum being thicker(a good thing).

When I received the light I had to take it all apart to make sure everything was where it was supposed to be. The spacer around the led fell off when I disassembled it, but it easily went back on. I had to readjust the rubber tailcap as it wasn't put in place properly. There's a brass ring which goes around the underside of the driver and this barely stays in place. It has double o-rings on the tube which tend to stretch when screwing and unscrewing, so you have to mind those so they stay in their proper place. The led itself appears to have a burn mark on it, but this doesn't show up against a white wall. The reflector and lens were a bit dirty and scratched. This can all be chalked up to poor quality control, which is reflected in the low price. When this light is tweaked and cleaned up it is another worthy addition to my ever growing 26650 light collection.

Here's a couple photos to whet your appetite

Here's a couple of quick vids showing the light and some beamshots.

Nice review Biggie. Will the tailcap screw fully on using protected batteries?

Thanks for letting us have a look at it.

Are the advertized lumes accurate ?

Not sure about protected batteries, as I only have unprotected KingKongs. Judging by the amount of play with the spring in there I'd say they're a safe bet. As far as the advertised 1000 lumens I'd say it's realistically more like 700-800? This is comparable to the other 26650 lights out there.

Nice. Thanks for the heads up.

Is driver 17mm?

Thanks for the review, biggie. Nice looking light!

Thanks for the review biggie!

This flashlight looks nice, I though it wasn't a budget light and I couldn't believe the price.

Could you post tailcap current?

Sorry my multimeter isn`t working, so I can`t take any readings.

Hi biggie, I fully agree with everything you reviewed about this light. I ordered mine right after you ordered yours. Mine came yesterday. Everything you reported about the light even down to when you unscrew the front part, the spacer around the led came off, same here. It went back on.

Also, I fully agree that the minor faults with this light is overshadowed by the fact, it only cost us $25.10 shipped. Wink

I only have two protected Keygos 26650 batteries, and they fit perfectly in there. I will say it is tight in that tube, for the simple reason the spacers that came with my other 26650 lights will not fit in this light. It came with it OWN spacer to put a 18650 in. IMO, that is a good part. Don't want anything slipping around.

Going up against the M10 is a tough ticket. But, they are only $2 apart in price so they cool.

To cut the rambling, after one day, on only about 5 or 6 click ons, I am so far real happy with this light. It is indeed a handsome light.

It looks like the addiction had take ahold of me big time!! (big wide grin).. Wink

mine with my M10

Edit.. To let you know how close it is in the battery tube, I had put tape on both my Keygos 26650 batteries to make them no slip for my my BeamTech 4000 light. To put a Keygos 26650 battery in this light, I had to take off all the tape! When the tape was off the battery, the protected Keygos fit in this light, like it was custom made.. :)

Thanks for the peek, Biggie! That is a seriously good looking light. Far sexier than the M10 IMO. 8)

Thanks biggie!

That light is identical to the Shadow JM05 right down to the tail cap and brass rings on the ends of the battery tubes. Biggie, how long did it take you to get it from DX?

I ordered mine a day after the OP order his. When I saw his "just ordered" I did the same. I ordered mine on 3/26/12, it arrived on 4/2/12. About 2 weeks ago DX sent email told me it was backordered and offered a refund. I declined and told them I would wait..Wink

Interesting. I just spoke with them and they said it was OOS. Site says it ships in 7-10 days. Maybe it’s always OOS and it’s just drop shipped from their supplier. I really want one. What do you think I should do?

Get one!! IMO, at this price, it is a Budgeteer's dream!! Wink

The M10, Ke-5 and JM05 Clone. However, right before I took the beam shots, I moved the Ke-5 to the right and put the JM05 Clone in the middle and left the M10 on the left.

Here is the JM05 clone in the middle with the Keygos Ke-5 on the right and the Keygos M10 on the left..

I just mounted the JMO5 clone on my bicycle helmet... Oh boy..It has a super spill along with a good throw, all good for my bicycle..

After speaking with my local dealer (Vietnam) this light comes with a 2.2A stock driver.

He’s agreed to swap mine out for a 2.8A driver, so naturally I’ve just gone an pulled the trigger, again :Sp
