Did this get cancelled? Will there be an SMO available in the future?
Are the 5000mA “SST40” drivers regulated? I tried looking up the components but no luck. Just need to know if these are linear or FET. Thanks! EDIT: Okay. Found the components. Alpha and Omega Semiconductors AON7220. It’s an N-channel FET designed for high switching frequencies and reasonably low Rds(on). I suppose there could still be a feedback loop on the driver somewhere that regulates PWM to keep current in check? But does the LED still effectively see ‘direct drive’ currents? I want to use one of these to run a CSLNM1.TG in due to its low profile, single sided construction.
I really see this as the best application of these drivers, but wondering about this design too, anf if anyone has been using them for the CSLNM1.TG.
This is going into a Convoy M2 (SMO) and I’m hoping to hit 100kcd. Mathematically possible, but either way it’ll be the nicest 18650 pocket thrower around IMO. I think P60/M2 dimensions demarcate the largest comfortable-to-pocket size. I’m just starting to use lanyards and am starting to warm up to them, but I sure wish in 2020, high quality, deep carry, low profile pocket clips become available. The bolt on design Simon sells would be just fine if the metal was thicker, stronger, and edges more rounded. I would buy a dozen easily.
I measured the thread of the normal brass convoy s2+ pill:
METRIC. 60° included angle.
1.25mm pitch.
OD: 21.78mm
Pitch Diameter: 21.25mm
I had this build ready ≈8 months ago. Uses the weird “8 A” SST-40 linear driver, for which I replaced its stock R005 with a R010 + R050 + R200 stack, and it gave me 4.75 - 4.8 A effective. Had to file a standard “XP” gasket. I could measure a hair above 100 Kcd soon after switch on, and a lil bit below 100 Kcd (97 - 98 Kcd) at 30 seconds, if I recall right. With my smartphone, that is a take it with a grain of salt, although the numbers tally.
I also found this picture I took of my “square threads” copper pills, I don't have them anymore but it'll provide a good look to Hoop's eyes threading wise:
Nice Barkuti! I just recently hopped onto the Osram bandwagon since there are slightly lower CCTs available from KD. Still have a hard time with low CRI cw emitters, but for a few specific applications, they are awesome! How well did the M1 reflector behave with the NM1?

Yep, they look sort of “black and white” or achromatic versus proper light sources. I wouldn't call them awesome for this reason. They “blow up” the light meter figures, but who cares if you don't like it.
How did the reflector behave? If you're asking about rings or other artifacts, found none as far as I know.
Looks mostly squareish to me Barkuti.
Square, yes I know. Does the pitch equals that of the standard? Not sure, never measured a brass pill but 10 mm (1.25 mm pitch times 8 steps) seems a bit short to my eye. Maybe Simon should order a pill threading conversion, then sell his stock?
In all honesty, when flashlight parts combine or lego it is a pleasure. When they don't where they should, @#$%.
Possible to order S12 with new 5A biscotti driver?
Hodor, I think the answer is yes, but not exactly. The reason for “not exactly” is the S12 uses that SST-40 driver in ∅22 mm format, which comes tuned for up to 6 A.
Nice host for a flooder btw, pretty “minimalist” reflector:

You can play with sense resistors to change the max preferred current though, i added an R050 on the existing R010 which theoretically makes it 7,2 A as Barkuti earlier discussed in THIS thread
I picked up an S12 host and ordered one of the new drivers. I’m going to try to modify a 17mm/22mm adapter to work. I want to make a XP-G3 photo red triple, but not sure how the red LEDs will hold up with this driver since the forward voltage of these emitters is quite a bit lower than blue/white LEDs. Haven’t played with red LEDs much. I figure either the LEDs will let out the magic smoke or the driver will get very hot. Maybe heat conductive potting compound around the driver will help?
The driver will be burning off ~50% of the wattage. Heat management will be necessary. A buck driver will be much better suited here obviously, but there’s only one way to find out how it will hold up

I recently built an S2+ triple using the xpg3 660nm deep red emmitters. I used the 17mm 5 amp driver and have had no issues with it.

Yup, figured heat would be an issue in the driver. Do you know of any ~2.5v buck drivers that can do ~1.5A per emitter in a triple? I didn’t have any luck when I searched. Mtn seems to be perpetually out of stock on most of their drivers.

Good to know, thanks!

That is possible because these drivers feature thermal regulation / temperature protection. Since the voltage delta is huge, the flashlight should perceptibly dim down after a good deal of seconds in high. Remove the onboard NTC, and I bet soon you will see magic smoke coming out of it.
To properly build a triple with deep red emitters, I would choose some boost driver if available. For a Convoy S12, this ∅22mm Manta Ray “XHP50” driver with emitters mounted in a series MCPCB would make a real bright red flashlight. Or you could also go :-D rampage with the “XHP70” version (no idea if the KDLITKER MCPCB fits the S12 well, though).
I thought about using a Convoy boost driver but I wasn’t sure if any old triple MCPCB would be compatible with the S12.
Just curious. Will copper pills be finally made for aluminum hosts? Simon mentioned a run was to be produced long ago, but looks like the thing got frozen.
There are more than enough enthusiasts around here to guarantee sales of a nice batch of copper pills for alu hosts/flashlights, in my honest opinion.
in stock ,too ,you can order the copper pill and note ” copper pill for alu S2+”
