Review: KD 7135 V2 drivers 3040/2280/1520 mA with mode configuration

Question : Has anyone tried giving a good tap to the flashlight that has one of theese drivers installed?

I recently bought two KD 6x7135 V2 LED Driver 2280mA , I've installed them in two UltraFire XM-L T6 WF-504B , used different settings , and if I tap anyone of them while on High Mode, it automaticaly goes to Medium Mode, the memory mode S1 brige is connected so even if the battery would disconnect for a fraction of a second it wouldn't have to do this. I've noticed this odd thing because I'm using them on my bicycle...

yes mine switches too if I hit it..a solution is to snug up the battery with tape or cardboard shims and/or adding a small standard p60 spring to the existing spring..I had to add springs to the old 105c drivers because the stock ones wouldn't contact the battery..i'll have to do the same thing to these drivers..

here is a link to pictures of what I did with the extra spring..the copper wire was left as it was more hassle to remove it than to just leave it..

The spring was also my first tought , probably when you tap it , for a fraction of a second there's a weak contact at the + end, and because of this the voltage drops below 2.8 V and the protection kick's in , which sets the output to 35 % ...

Thanks! I will try it. (and will probably work )

yeah the spring rate on these drivers is really stiff..so any shot is going to lift the battery off the spring and not allow for a compensation like you get with these weaker p60 springs..it's really easy to fit the new spring on the existing spring..you just have to make sure the diameter of the part going on the stock spring is tight then feed solder to join..

I've posted an article on my custom ordered KD 7135 V2 3040mA LED Driver:

Viktor

the drivers are now available with 50mA low mode at kaidomain. but you need to buy 5.

I bought some of them to give it a try, I tried adding an extra 7135 (350mA from the V1), but when I connect the chip the driver doesn’t turn on…
Why can this be? maybe the extra 7135 is damaged? or maybe they should be inserted in some specific order?
If someone did it before with this KD V2 I would like to know where to connect the extra 7135

EDIT: I did this before with the V1 version, at first it didn’t work until E1320 helped me with the order, and since then it always works… but this new driver is giving me this problem again :frowning:

Here is a pic of the not working piggy mod, it is not fully connected

Hey FX-32, I haven’t tried stacking 350mA and 380mA chips together, but strictly judging from your picture, are the middle legs soldered together?
Reason I’m asking is because when I stack them, I usually solder together the larger tab at the back instead of the middle leg since they are the same anyway (if that makes any sense).

I have mixed different AMCs and it worked.. if that's any help for you.

Welcome to the family, MosesM!

No, I didn’t soldered the middle leg, just the larger tab as you say.
Anyway, the flashlight is now done, 3050mA is OK…

I am curious about how the modes rotate... a while back I installed the driver to a V6-T60, selecting hi/med/lo modes, no memory. However if I stay at any mode longer than a sec or two, then to go to the next mode I have to half-click twice. So for example I start on high, if I leave it a bit and want to go to med I half click twice. If I leave it at med and want to go to low I half-click twice again. If I do it fast I can rotate through the modes with a single click. Is this normal mode behavior?

My Nanjg 105 works the same and another one (brand/model unknown) too.

Another possible reason for having only high mode. The led+ pad is adjacent to the Vdd pin on one of the chips(large ground tab on top, bottom right pin is Vdd). If the pad is shorted to the pin with solder you will get only high mode, leaving the controller screaming in the closet.

does anyone have a diagram on how to slave 2 of these boards together?
thanks

I used the 1500ma board to drive a xre p4 warm white. I set it to 3 modes lo-med-high with mem, but it has lo-med-high but no memmory but im sure i didnt get something correct on that. What I did notice is that if I half clicked six times when i was in low fast that on the next half click it would go to strobe then to sos. then if i left it off for a minuted then it went back to only have 3 modes only lo-med-high.

Its like it has hidden modes. Has anyone ever experienced that before?

hi gang

  • does anyone have a diagram/info on how to slave 2 or 3 of these drivers together?
  • also, can the low voltage cut off / protection be eliminated??
    thanks

Did anyone succeed turning KDv2 into SINGLE mode with current regulation still in place ???

I did look at Intl-Outdoors NANJG 105c and it shows pretty clear how to turn that one into single mode (remove two small components marked with R1 and R2 as well as control 8-pin chip, then solder together three upper-left points where the chip was… as well as capacitor on the other side…

Anyone tried it yet with KDv2 ???

Looks like yo haven’t connected any bridge. Your driver is still in the default 10-mode group:
lo - med - hi - lo - med - hi - strobe - warning - sos - beacon

So I got the 3040 ma version of this and tried it out and I only get high. I checked all my solder points and everything looked good. I originally soldered S1 for memory and S3 for high > med > low and all I got was high. Then I de-soldered both S1 and S3 and I still only got high. I might have heated up some of the 7135 chips when soldering on the neg and pos wires. I don’t know what is wrong with this thing. I’m about ready to take off the 7135 chips and throw it away. This is my first time messing with swapping drivers. I had no problem re-installing the old drivers and they work fine.
