What you got today

From my experience, any Convoy is a good flashlight! Glad you love your C8.

Old vs New

That old Feuerhand needs some TLC ! It is the good type mit sturmkappe, it deserves some maintenance.

There’s a story behind that.
Actually I have two of them, i don’t know exactly how old they are, but probably very old. They were from my father in law who passed away 17 years ago, when i met him they were already hanging in his garage in this state.
They are decorative items now, there’s a rust hole in the bottom, i can’t get it over my heart to throw them away

With holes in them there is not much reason to restore them, too much work, it is not that they are rare (I think I read that up to 2012 250 million Feuerhands have been produced). So to keep them out of sentimental reasons is probably best

Got some PCB’s today from Oshpark, I love their new black substrate / clear solder mask option

Edit: populated with the components from a BLF-A6 driver from Banggood, with FET replaced by a LFPAK33 size FET from Mtn. It tested ok. Note the interesting MCU that is used on the new BG BLF-A6 drivers, branded Atmelu?? :confounded:

Just received this engine yesterday. 219C 4k with red secondary.

Got this Vapcell YR1030 internal resistance tester with bonus pack of alligator clips and 4 wire battery holder

Today I got two of these Vapcell H10 1000mAh 10A 14500 cells.

I can not test batteries but I can do a quick comparison: I have a Convoy T2 with direct driver, springs bypassed and a sliced 4000K 90CRI LH351D led. At max it draws whatever the battery can deliver. I measured at 30 seconds with a freshly charged battery:

Efest purple 14500 : 620 lumen
Vapcell H10 : 815 lumen

The output of the Vapcell was hardly dropping at 30 seconds. So my preliminary conclusion: another winner from Vapcell, this is clearly a battery from what HKJ calls the “new chemistry” ; both high capacity and high current.

Looks like some good batteries djozz. Do you have some more info on your Convoy T2 mod? I’ve been thinking about buying a T2 to mod for awhile.

The T2 mods pretty much the same as a S2, in fact it is a S2 that was shrunken a bit, but without a pill, the ledboard is on a shelf like the S3 and the BLF-A6. 16mm ledboard, 17mm driver, small Omten in the tail. I used a FET-converted AK47 C1 driver, but I may replace it with a standard BLF-A6 driver. The most challenging part of the mod was adding a red lighted tail.

djozz, maybe you had a different version of this light, but the ledboard is smaller than 16mm.
It is perhaps 14.5mm, because there is a raised “ring” on the edge of the shelf that doesn’t allow a 16mm pcb to sit correctly!
I used a “shaved”/filed/rimmed 16mm board with Luxeon, but had to make it slimmer to fit well!

BTW, I am using a 17mm led4power (4-6A) driver, a XP-L Hi led on the Tool AA (v1) aliminum PCB, and a convoy FW clicky switch on the tail!

I guess I need to get a Vapcell to get some more light than the currently used Efest
Thanks for the heads-up

Thanks for the great info djozz and MascaratumB! This will probably be my next mod, including the lighted switch.

:+1:

Convoy M3 XHP70.2. It was shipped out of BG’s USA warehouse, so I got it in five days from ordering.

Running a Shockli 26650 5500 mAh battery in it. Four brightness levels, no strobe or other blinky modes which is fine with me. It is very bright and seems to sustain turbo mode for about two minutes before stepping down one level. No problem for me, as the third level is plenty bright enough.

I really like the design, it could easily be a shelf queen in my eyes. It is beautifully machined and anodized.

I have one quality issue with it: the mode button is uneven. One side of the button is angled slopping down into the host. It feels weird under my thumb because of the tilted angle. I notified Banggood and sent a picture of it, so they can advise Convoy of the quality quirk.

I really like Convoy torches. I also have a C8+ and that is a super light for the price.

Speaking of Convoy, Simon once again made me a happy customer.

First SST20 light I get, and also the first in 5000K. It throws like a BEAST with that smooth reflector, my old XM-L2 C8 - throwiest torch I had until now - barely compares. I seem to have been VERY lucky with the tint lottery too, no green shifts to be found. Only thing I did was remove the pocket clip, that model chews anything but jeans to pieces and there’s no side switch for me to point it towards.

(Yes, it’s running Biscotti. I know, I’m a broken record  )

Also received a pair of non-coated lenses for my C8. Switched out the chipped one that was in it (from a tumble years ago) right away.

Once more an example how good Convoy is, that M2 rivals any of the tactical top brand lights out there IMO, with biscotti you can customise the UI to exactly your preference, and it is likely more robust than most A-brands because more simple and more servicable.

I hear somewhere on reddit the M2 is not watertight due something with the o-ring and that the M1 is better. Can someone confirm/debunk this?

Hmm, not good news, my M2 is from the first generation, so I can not help confirming.

I just received my first M2 host from Simon on yesterday. I haven’t tested it yet (submersion) , and may not considering the risk to spotting the reflector, but the lens o-ring design is actually something I noticed immediately and didn’t have a bunch of confidence in. I’ll report back if I can’t help but test it somehow…
