*The "Micro Lanterns" -What i built and modified!

I had a search last night for the remote phosphor LEDs and couldn’t find any, but just did a quick google for 360 5mm LED and there are a few in the image search.

The other ones I thought may be good for a even light are the filament LED, like you get in retro bulbs. They are easy to find on eBay, aliexpress etc.

Maybe sanding the dome on one of rngwn’s LED’s would result in a comparable light distribution? There would be a little bit of light loss, but it should diffuse it.

I have thought about trying those filament LEDs, they do seem like a good idea for small lanterns. I was always curious though of their efficiency vs. amp draw, as the filament LED used a couple dozen tiny separate LED diodes along a micro PCB strip, coated in a remote phosphor “tube” as such, versus a single remote-phosphor 5mm that uses a single LED diode in the center. Some of those 5mm LEDs in that 360 degree search does look close to the ones i have.

yep, did that too  it does increase the light distribution, but it does create some light loss.

That’s really cool man, I like it.

Want one?
Or Two?

I’m sure Amazon or Walmart will ship to Snowlandia…

i can;t find them on our amazon.ca site, or our wallyworld.ca site. :sunglasses:

They are at amazon.ca: Amazon.ca

I’ve also bought unbranded clones but I can’t find them anymore on aliexpress/dx/banggood.

Just 2 cents, by sanding down the dome of LED, you might want to leave some slight arc to mitigate the output loss due to (total) internal reflection. (And that’s the reason why the wide angle LEDs are strawhat-shaped)

For regular LED epoxy, the refractive index should be about 1.5, which translates to ~41 deg of critical angle. That means the incident angle from the phospors to the furthest edge of the dome should not exceed that angle (or try to minimize the distance towards the edge where the critical angle would be exceeded), or the light will go backward due to the internal reflection.

For some odd reason they won’t ship to my address… :person_facepalming:

If you want, I can order it for you and ship it at your place.

Hi. As i have seen, there are blue and red brothers to Thorfire KL02. Do you makes any mods in led & driver for them?

unfortunately I have not had those models to do any testing or mods for them.

But you have red lantern which is similar. Do you change driver inside (which is simply resistor in stock)?

Ah the Amanti CR123, i just used a higher value resistor, as it’s direct drive from a CR123 cell at 3 volts.

haha, cool - I did the same thing with the 2032 holders and 5mm 95CRI Yuiji 3000K leds. I added a clip so they can be worn on a hat.

Sadly, I thought someone replaced the squalor of directdrive with a normal driver

And of course led.

Great idea with the clip. :+1:

If we could find them in warm White or neutral white!
