My experience with Petrified Fish so far has been pretty good. They seem to be the company behind that much-loved Gocomma knife people were buzzing about here last year. Of course, Gocomma is a rebrander and unscrupulously stamped it D2. The actual PF version is stamped 8Cr13Mov. That seems accurate based on my use. It’s also worth noting that PF’s 8Cr seems to have a decent heat treatment. Between that and the blade geometry, it was honestly better than knives I’ve had from CRKT and other major brands.
I developed a taste more for Speyside than Islay sourced scotch. I can enjoy some smokiness. Lagavulin 16 is about my limit. Last time I had a Talisker, it was very smoky. I know there are some variants and of course years… don’t remember which. I might try a 10 yr again. I really enjoy Macallan 12 double-cask. I used to buy a 750ml bottle for around $40. Then took a long break, maybe a good 8 years, stunned to find it leaped up to $70 on the low side. Plus, it’s more commercial now. Macallan 12 Years Sherry Cask used to be cheaper, but I saw that it has been discontinued for distribution in Europe so prices have skyrocketed. Crazy.
Single malt scotch cannot expand to meet a growing population interest. Just too slow. So, I try not to talk about it! 
I have seen an arc-lock used with a baton to split wood. SOG Vulcan Tanto.
So, a folder can be strong enough. I have one of these and it’s beautifully made for the price.
My favorite small folder is, hands down, a Spyderco Vrango. Machining is first rate. Liner lock totally centers on the blade—no worries. Now that I’ve been spoiled, I’m not driven to buy sub $20 folders any longer. Although machining is very good and you can find nice blade metal, main issue is the weight. 2” folder weighing 5oz? Silly.
I think I may get around to finally buying a fixed though. I think a good idea to have at least one. I would like to spend under $50 USD for a really decent quality one. Is that possible?

Yep we all different not only in tastes.
I can even (just) enjoy a Johnny Walker double black with mates. Occasionally.
But that Blue at $250+ a bottle.
. Gold has a nice fuzz.
When my palate gets a bit “flat”… I usually buy a bottle of Port. Galway Pipe or Hardy’s Öld Cave”.
Sip on that for a week or so.
I find it regenerates my Palate again. Just the change. 78 Getting old hey….
I never buy the “Glens” Whichever.
Mate talked me into a Glenlivet 12. YUK.
Just reminded me why I don’t buy them. (Under $200. You want it? short 2 x tots.)
I’ll stick to the Island grogs.

(I Know. Bloody Speyside piss) BUT Admittedly VERY nice.
Silk through the tonsils and glooooowing all the way back.
Then I saw what it cost. wow. over my. now. buying head.
His Brother brews. Copies mainly that one and good at it too.
I sipped one of his once. 30 odd Yrs ago.
Around 72%. Smoooth as. But it came back with a real kick. 10 min’s later.
I’ll stick to my 46 proof thank you.
If he watered down to sensible proofs.
They would be a nice drink.

A GOOD Basic reliable workin knife you can hammer.
Lots of fancy chinese ones. Some good Euro/Custom US.

But I like the old Danish/Norwegian. Proven blades.
For general use.
I have an original Martiini. 4 1\4 in blade here. Had around 50 yrs.
Never missed a beat. Done everything. NO fancy steels. Just a good reliable one.
Sharpen b4 use. will cut anything. $50ish model would be fine.
Plus. If I lose. Well. New one. (But I’d probably cry as I did 
MOST nowadays are built after military/ fighting blades. Too big and bulky.
Or too small for the next step up from folders.
ME Folders to 3 1\2 in. Fixed to Maybe 5in. Then axe to 4ish in tree dia.
Over that My Chain saw cuts anything while keeping my fingers safe.
I bought a 5 1\2 in Cold steel blade. but will remove Tang/handle.
Weld on another stainless piece and rebuild.
I only prefer Full tang full dia Handles.

I’d probably stayed on drugs and no Implant. Cheaper too.

Kershaw Fringe 8310!
This is my first new knife in eight months.
It's a good one.
I really like the carbon fiber insert.
My particular knife is sometimes difficult to open.
I believe this is because the pivot screw it too tight.
I don't have the right hardware handy to adjust the pivot screw, but other than that problem, this knife is a winner.
And, that was a good deal for 22 bucks. Good find.

This knife is perfect for me.
No minor complaints this time.
This knife has a 3.5" blade.
I think I'll only get knives with a blade of 3.25" or bigger from now on.
I don't really like smaller knives, and this way I don't buy as many knives.

Have you tried the “full metal” Passage 1361 by any chance? It would be interesting to compare those two.
A $13.20 ebay knife with 1.3-inch blade for cutting boxes. Had it since 2016.

Benchmade 417 FACT. Mostly a Spyderco guy, but this is a sweet blade.
Spyderco Sage 5. What a wonderful knife! Very similar ergos to my old Native but with MUCH more refined fit and finish. Initial pivot action was a little rough but a few swipes on my UF stone with the (super thick) washers, Tuf-glide, and some break in did it absolute wonders. I expect this will be my EDC for a LONG time to come.

Ruike P841. Love it!
Pros:
Grippy multi colored, contoured layered G-10 scales. This knife isn’t going anywhere once you grip onto it; whether it be in the rain or other slippery conditions.
14C28N blade steel. Holds a sharp edge for a long time. Excellent corrosion resistance properties.
Two opening methods: thumb studs or flipper tab. Silky smooth action. I can fidget with it for hours
A beautiful curved blade belly, and drop point piercing tip make the P841 a wonderful slicer.
Build quality is second to none in the budget knife world.
Cons:
No deep carry pocket clip.
No gimping for thumb on the spine. The Ruike P105 and P135-SF have it, and I have grown to really appreciate it.
Verdict:
I got it for $38 delivered, to that I say it is OUTSTANDING for the price. It can be had everyday for $39.95 from most online blade sellers.
Is Wemascus a form of Damascus?
I’ve read it’s 9Cr18MoV but formed in the damascus style.
It is a shrouded in mystery damascus, in house created by WE knives, parent of Civivi.
It is a form of damascus, but is jokingly called Wemascus, like pakimascus, for cheap damascus blades from Pakistan, in the knife community.
I’ve seen that too, but full content has yet to be discerned.
