Interest collect for a new Sofirn design: tube style18650, magnetic ring control, USB-C charging, 500 lm max (AKA grandma light)

In for 1!
My first light was a Sunwayman V11R - still one of my favorites but I’ve grown away from the cool white LED.
Like others have mentioned before, as long as it’s packed well with certain types of grease the ring won’t really loosen up too bad and can always be repacked.

Both my grandmothers have passed . Can I still get one ?

if you can still catch their spirit, yes sure

I am in for at least 2. Maybe 3. Thanks!

interested in 2 please

Maybe I should take one. Please add me to the list, djozz.

interested, hope can be more than 500 lumens output

Interested.

Sorry i haven’t followed the whole thread… and post #1 does not help much understanding where the project is now. Could you add updates to the first post?

There are no actual updates since the first post apart from that in January Sofirn asked for a draft of how the light should look like and so I made one for them. I decided not to post my draft because it will (of course, this is BLF  ) generate lots of discussion on something that Sofirn may not use after all. So the next update will be when Sofirn confirms that they are actually started working on the design, with hopefully first design drawings.

Can you provide me a link of where to find the ipx7 or ipx8 usb-c port? I’m trying to convince a flashlight manufacturer to use usb-c instead of proprietary magnetic charging.

This is the USB-C port part link that I sent Barry as an example of what can be used. But I am by no means an expert on such things, I hope that Sofirn can sort out what is usable and affordable.

Excellent thanks!!!

In for 2, very worthwhile project!

I'm concerned about safety.

I would suggest adding a USB Power adapter as well, and not just a USB-C charge cable. Make it a complete kit if possible.

It's a wise decision to use USB-C instead of Micro USB. Just think about the times they try to connect the cord up-side down.

If you just add a charge cable, you don't know where they try to pry those cables in. Even USB-A cables can give problems. I've seen people trying to put a USB cable in an ethernet port on laptops.. and no, they weren't dumb people. Just couldn't see the holes very well.

I hope Sofirn can guarantee safety and test this rigourosly before production.

I want at least two

2 please.

Looks like a worthy effort. Single unit for sure, soft commitment for another 3 for total of 4.
thanks

you can dream, I do too… but that is not what this light is about, afaict

.

there is also no mention of NW, unless you mean 5000k High CRI:

.

afaict by searching posts by djozz with the word “infinite”…
it is not going to be infinitely variable:

I have communicated the list of wishes to Barry/Sofirn in Januari, which included the wish for the magnetic ring being infinitely variable. I have not received comments on that list from Sofirn since.

But Sofirn has not even started with the design, so I’m not surprised that there are no answers to the wishes, because only when they start designing they can reflect on ideas and get a first idea of the costs of certain wishes.

The infinitely variable ring is not a key feature for this light, but if it is possible to have one while staying within budget I will certainly try to get that included.
