[Review] Convoy M21C ( XHP70.2, 1 x 21700) - Excellent performance and regulation # Outdoor beamshots included

[quote=Simon Mao]

I believe the L21A is powered by just one 21700 cell and can even run on one 18650. The L6 — which costs almost twice as much (as a L21A) — requires two 26650 cells. IMO those differences are quite substantial.

i will make a L21A with XHP70.2 sample first

Thanks! Let me know if you want to send me one to test out.

I have decided to order the M21C.

Today I disassembled the M21C and got some measurements of the reflector + glass that a fellow member requested via PM.
Keep in mind that I don't have a set of calipers, so I used a regular ruler to get the dimensions (so there's a margin for error).

Reflector's base diameter: 26mm
Reflector's top diameter: 45mm
Reflector's height: 39mm
Glass thickness: 2mm
Glass diameter: 50mm

And here's some photos of the glass and reflector:

Are there any other beamshots of this light out there? I’m wondering how the spill compares to a light such as the thrunite tc20.

How far the throw for this flashlight?
What the size of the magnetic tail ring for this flash light?
Is it the same size magnetic tail ring for C8?

The effective range is about 150 meters to 200 meters.
magnetic ring is not suitable because the M21C is heavy

What LED is that — the XHP70.2 perhaps?

I reallllly dig the XHP70.2 emitter in general. Especially in my M3. Anyone else?

Thinking about picking this light up too.

Simon, please start making modes with 1/2-second mode memory. I am so sick of having to wait 3 seconds for mode memory to set. Even 1 second is too long. Also, consider making a control ring mode selector. That would fix this problem.

Do you hunt with a flashlight? I mean you have to turn the flashlight on or off frequently?

Yes, very frequently. Mainly security work. This feature is a must for me.

There is still a place for single mode lights. All my of critical function lights are single mode (Surefire/Malkoff, Surefire/Lumensfactory, Streamlight, IU). Well, I guess that’s not completely true as my firefighting light was a streamlight survivor that could access low and flash by holding the button down for multiple seconds… but in functional use this never was a problem.

12groups for M21C will be available soon ,
the 12th group is one mode 100% ,this driver is more suitable to you

(unfortunately I don't have the XHP70.2 variant of Convoy M21C, so here it shows only the SST40 variant)

Convoy M21A (SST40) beamshot (the Convoy C8+ SST40 will perform similarly)

I'm not familar with the Thrunite TC20 (Thrunite doesn't appear to ship to my country), but based on specs, I think the closest equivalent I have might be the Convoy M3:

Convoy M3 beamshot:

Hi. on the Beamshots, a purple halo is visible at the edge of the lighted area. Are these features of photographing, or is it actually observed?

It’s from the AR-coating on the lens and is common in many lights that have an AR lens (sometimes different colors depending on what color of AR film is used but purple is common).

Sorry. This makes the light of the flashlight somewhat “cheap.” Interestingly, installing an OP reflector will solve this problem?
In my “convoys” with glass with enlightenment, this was not previously observed.

I have several lights from several brands with OP reflectors and AR-coated glass and they all have this artifact, including Convoy.

It is so far to the edge (sometimes past even where the spill itself cuts off) that I have never been bothered by it personally. A new non-coated lens or removing the coating with solvent are two possible solutions. Putting diffusion film on the lens would probably eliminate the effect as well by diffusing the color into the beam.
