Astrolux EC01 quality lottery

I was impressed with the Astrolux EC01 so I ordered one, when I got it I noticed a lot of small imperfections on the head and a few on the tail cap. I am super unsatisfied because of it, I checked images of reviews on Banggood (I purchased there too) and all them got perfect looking flashlights!
Is this condition of a brand new item normal and acceptable? What you would do regarding it? I always keep my gadgets in a perfect condition for a long time so having it “damaged” from the beginning is something I don’t like.

Wellp, if you fight BG over this, you’ll likely have to send pix, and video, and more pix, and another video, then have to go through it all again when someone new comes along, only to be offered 5 BG “points” as compensation.

People get offered 5bux to make it right if a 100buk light’s completely DOA. A complaint about microscopic imperfections would likely go nowhere (except maybe 5pts applicable only to full-price purchases).

That’s just the business model there, and the price you pay (law of averages) for lower prices.

hm… does the light work ok ? i wouldnt worry about that really aslong as the light works…

I’m no expert in machining, but it appears to be plausible that tools used for manufacturing inexpensive goods do not have the quality (or are aged) of those used for expensive goods. But then I have the Astolux FT03 which looks perfect to me. Hm, maybe we see first indications of world economic crisis? How long will China be able to keep those rediculous low prices anyway?

No offense meant with my post, I understand you und would be upset, too. Maybe you could sell it to someone just interested in this light as a tool?

Just hit it with some sandpaper and use it as a tool. Not worth a fight.

Mine I got a few months back was fine. I actually though it was good quality for the price. Maybe it’s used…or dropped.

If you really aren’t satisfied desolder an led wire and ask for a partial refund haha. Not advised

I’ve done this a few times for faults that are just too hard to show on camera such as flickering led, very high parasitic drain, or something else that happens at random.

I assume you’re exaggerating but if you’ve ever been on the Retailer side of a charge back you would see how the customer can…. ‘put the shoe on the other foot’
Would do a partial charge back for cosmetic damage. for sure would not pay a cent for a DOA item and would not send it back until i receive a prepaid label. whatever the retailer does… i don’t pay

There’s major retailers just shutting down their phone support and directing customers to wait in a 3 hour queue online to text to someone about refunds on damages……. LOLOLOL
Refusing to answer emails 2-3 weeks old? LOLOL

How about NO, they can spend hours dealing with my charge back or just let the money go

Thanks everybody.

Just to clarify, I am not talking about machining part, it can’t be perfect (and that milling pattern is only visible if you really want to see it), I am talking about cosmetics that happend after painting.

One more thing that I forgot to mention, there was a transparent sticky spot as big as the logo right above the logo at the head. It became visible once dirt sticked to it. It is not lubricating grease, it’s sticky and very hard to remove it.

Yes there is a possibility that I received used/tested flashlight.

What I will do, probably nothing since they can’t make me satisfied. There is Astrolux MF01 flashlight that I also like but after this, no thanks. Even fake SkyRay Kings were perfect when I received it.

Now I am not sure what rating to leave for it, such a nice flashlight and not very good experience with my purchase. There are only 5 stars and a very low number of 4 stars ratings for this item.

Maybe, but not by much. Check some of the old threads here. “We give you X credit… is that okay?”

But first they contact the seller, who’ll claim the microscopic dings are normal and are on every light, that you’re just impossible to please, etc., and it’ll be an uphill fight.

Even with “double protection” (CC and PP), they can be oh so accommodating and say, “Sure! No problem! Just send us back the old light and we’ll send you an absolutely perfect shiny one!”. Problem is, it’ll cost 154bux to send it back “properly” all the way to Choina with full tracking (else they just say they never got it, and now you got no bux and no light).

It’s what’s been said here a brazillion times, that you can buy cheap and get cheap (ie, roll the dice). If you want Amazon a-to-z service, you buy from Amazon instead.

Hey, give it a shot.

Contact them first and ask about it. If they settle up and make you happy, great, 5-stars. If they tell you to pound sand, leave 1-star and “Used/Returned light, very disappointed”.

Chances any negative reviews will be deleted anyway, but it may let you feel better.

Did you purchase directly from Astrolux, or from a 3rd party?

A lot of sellers are just “drop shippers” — they take the order and payment, then they order from somewhere else to have it shipped directly to you.

Which means there are sellers who never see what they’re selling.

This is a good point.
And sellers who are not the manufacturer cant be expected to open every item they sell and thoroughly test and inspect it. (if they arent a dropshipper) The only person that should be hearing about a manufacturer defect is the manufacturer. I will admit Im definitely guilty of it myself though. I do most all of my shopping on ebay and they always side with the buyer. Its got to the point where most china sellers will just refund you immediately if something was wrong with the item regardless if they made the it or not. Especially if its like $10 or less. Ebay in particular treats its sellers like crap.

I would not be happy with those flaws either aceall. :confounded: Those look like they happened after the flashlight was made. And the sticky spot makes me think it was used as a display in a store, or a remanufactured flashlight.

I would contact Banggood and see how that goes. Depending on where you live, it may cost too much to send it back for a replacement.

When I got my Convoy C8 way back when, there was a flaw that I was not happy about. The Convoys (and other flashlights) I’ve gotten previously were essentially flawless. But it appeared to be a manufacturing flaw, unlike yours. And since I bought it from a small reputable store, I decided not to pursue a replacement (or a discount). Here are the pics I was going to send:

astrolux u can only buy from banggood as its their inhouse flashlight brand.

Just to answer previous question, yes the flashlight is working good, it’s awesome. I purchased it at Banggood.

@NeutralFan Wow that is bad, I believe that Convoy received a badly casted aluminum to work with.

I contacted Banggood in the meantime and they offered me points (which means I purchased an used flashlight for $24 ($26 new).

can u post another pic of the light overall ?

Yes I can, the image is really ugly since I was trying to get in focus the head part and to crop it.

I understand your frustration. I used to get really upset about cosmetics. I’m not a review guy. I would keep demonstrating the light here where people will listen.

what u need help with ?
