yes …, it is interesting how it copes with heat dissipation from 3 XHP50B? ))

Please consider having SST40 option as well. Love my Nightwatch NA40SE beam and 5000k tint.

Thanks. I was considering it but I’m not sure what the differences are in the beam profile and the throw distance. I think sst40 was 2000 lumens at the highest setting. And I believe the hot spot is smaller than the 50.2 version. Do you know if it throws better than the 50.2? And it there less spill ? Thanks

My only SST40 left is the NA40SE with 3xSST40.2 5000k. Compared against the 2 Astrolux EC01 (5000k/6000k), the NA40SE do throw further with no tint shift. It looks like a much more diffused Emisar D4S with XPL-hi 5000k.
Hope the above makes sense.

Take a look at Astrolux FT03. The FT03 with XHP50B LED reaches 125.000 Lux with 4400 Lumen, the FT03 with SST40 LED reaches up to 190.000 Lux with 2200 lumen (my own measurement).

Yes , I understand that . And I used to own both FT03s as well as the one with luminous 90.2 and other throwers. But the reason ft03 Sst20 throws father is not just Because of the emitters - there is much more lumens spent on the spill of the ft03 with 50.2. The throwing distance does depend on the emittters and overall lumens , but also the reflector shape, the size of hot spot/ concentration , and the amount of spill around it ( which takes away the lumens from the hot spot).
It’s good to compare these lights but from this comparison there is no sure way to tell theoretically how the Throw distance of nightwatch sst20 with 2000 lumens will compare to nightwatch 50.2 with 3500 lumens without knowing all the other variables, and even then will be hard to calculate. If someone has both lights then they can really compare.

Having SST40 as an option will be great.

If you use SST40 and XHP50B in the same reflector, the throwdifference will be nearly the same as it is at FT03 !!
XHP50.2 is larger and has less throw as the smaller SST40 ! Lumen are not very important for throw…

Why wouldn’t the lumens be important for the throw, other things being equal? They should increase the intensity of the hot spot . I guess I will have to order the Sst40 nightwatch to find out for myself …I asked on the nightwatch threads but no one seems to have both to compare side by side

Interested in the code please, thanks

Bit confused by what you’re saying here. The “brighter spill” is due to the larger emitter to reflector ratio with the XHP50.2, not an independent factor.

Sure, there are some outliers due to emitters and reflectors that interact in weird ways (mostly due to height/focusing AFAIK, like swapping white flats into lights that had much taller emitters) but the ratio of cd/lm between two emitters stays pretty consistent when comparing them in the same light, regardless of the dimensions of that light.

Maybe this Shockli 21700 4550mAh 22A / 30A will give you a bit more amps compared to the Tesla cell? I’m not sure if you will notice any difference.

Also like patmurris says, Samsung 40T will give you even more Amps, then with at lot less capacity
