Is screwing with a McGizmo sacrilege ... ? FINISHED

No, trying to improve another man’s work is not sacrelige. But putting a tattoo on a beautiful woman is.

Thanks for the explanation.

As with everything else about this light my first attempt failed… :weary: The lube I used didn’t actually make a good bond breaker. However cling wrap worked a lot better. I got some wrinkles in some of the windows and when I tried to clean the inside shelf with a Dremel I put marks on the inside of most of the windows :person_facepalming:

I wired everything up and… IT WORKS… well sort of… I made a slight oversight with driving the aux leds, there’s no resistor so they are way too bright :person_facepalming: So can anyone give me hints and tips on how to reduce the power? Negative side of the aux is just grounding through the host. Positive is connected to the main led + which is straight through to the battery +

Put a resistor inline off the + contact…lead on the other end of the resistor

Great! I was hoping it’d be nice and simple like that. Thanks KawiBoy

How abot using transparent adhesive tape to prevent epoxy leaking? You could just leave it in place after epoxy sets.

Wow.
Good thinking KB1428.

I’ll take it. PM me your PayPal info. :money_mouth_face:

Since I blocked the holes externally the tape would be seen so would need to be a very neat job of cutting away the excess. I’ll stick with what I’ve done. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Sold for $5000 Thanks mate :innocent: It’ll cost you an extra $1 if you want the battery and charger package :smiling_imp:

Sold? $5000.00. If your in the US thats about $5.00 to you.
I was going to offer $6000.00, my wife a cat and two dogs. :stuck_out_tongue:

Patent it or you know this will appear on the next FWXXXXXXXX lol!
Very impressive PP. I likey! :+1:
This also got me thinking (happens)…… ok, so a while ago whilst in a £1 shop I saw these xmas lights, powered by 2xaa’s.
I got them to fit out my lego r2d2 and millennium falcon (which they do fantastic) - I just found 2 spare sets - they are white, and a coloured set (which are white with blobs of coloured resin on)
the leds are already mounted on 2 protected wires! lucky! I am thinking I could use these somehow like you did?
What do you think?
! !

Lol, that would be flattery :innocent: It’s been nearly 2 years since I made the holey tail but it looks like nobody in manufacturing liked that idea :person_facepalming:

I have something similar to those lights you pictured. I imagine it’ll be quite some effort to shorten all those wires if you are poor at soldering like I am. Would be interested to see it if you do something with it though

Thanks for the offer Moose but one wife is enough for me

If I ever get back to Perth without the good wife you know your going to get haunted by someone.

The panda is being stalked by a moose

Screwing with a McGizmo is not sacrilege, however your ‘significant other’ may not appreciate you dividing your bedroom attentiona between her and your McGizmo….

I added a resistor to the aux lights. It didn’t turn out as well as I hoped. Dimming the leds down to the level I wanted wasn’t good for the leds. I guess the blue and green have a higher vf because they didn’t really show at all. In fact when the leds faded to those colours it simply went dark. So I changed resistors to increase the brightness. I got it somewhere in the middle where it’s quite bright in the dark but still not enough power to go through the full range of colours. A little bit disappointing but still a cool modification.

This pic is my fist around the torch

One of the last things I did to this light is add a ring to the head. This ring prevents the head from being over tightened, if that happens it’ll depress the switch. So this stops the thread perfectly to connect the driver without having to be careful. The original system was basically a twisty that used the driver as the end stop.

I had considered blackening the ring to make a black accent to match the tail. I previously showed a pic of a clear tape ring to help electrically isolate the inner tube. I took that off and replaced it with black tape.

Lastly I added a few drops of glue to hold the driver in place. It’s not going anywhere since the led wires are so short but having it fixed in place stops any possible twisting.
