Review: DIY UltraFire 1xAA Flashlight with Clip Host Kit

I didn’t get free shipping but thanks for the info as I ordered two kits…

Welcome to BLF, Dhbwa!

Thanks for the review E!

Aloha and welcome to BLF Dhbwa!

I ordered the exact components listed but just realized I may have messed up...

I want to use AA batteries should have I ordered a different driver??

The Nanjg driver is rated from 2.8-6.0 volts so it won't work with an AA battery. I don't know of as any drivers that will push an XML hard enough with an AA battery perhaps you should consider switching to a 14500 IMR battery.

Did I read that right up to sixty volts?

No it was a typo and I had to wait the full minute to fix it, sorry.

Ok, ordered this stuff and now need help with the proper battery and charger...

Make, model and vendor help PLEASE!

Thanks. I'm a tinkerer but hit the order button too quick...

How is the pill in terms of heat transfer (mass, threads)?

Would it be possible to get a closeup of the pill, with LED and driver installed?

The pill is very light weight the walls are thin it's the only way you could make it to allow a 16mm star and 17mm driver to fit, but the threads are really nice. The pill gives great heat transfer because of the nice threads. Here some more pictures.

Thanks. Now I have to order one. :p

How do you tell them to use a XP-G reflector instead of XR-E? The product you liked to says XP-E, but the pictures seem to be XR-E.

Are the threads square-cut? One of my favorite things about the AKOray K106 is the heavy duty square-cut threads.

There used to be a box you check off to pick an XPG or XRE/XML reflector I don't see it there anymore.

The threads are square cut, I think that's why the pill transfers heat so well.

Thanks for the review, it looks awesome.

I love the look of this host! Is is available in 18650 form? I know there are some in 18650 but none look as god as this.

Also, E1320... how do you flash the driver to set your own modes???

Hey E,

I just repaired an AKOray that I bought from DX months ago, the driver died when I tried a 14500 battery. I used a DX #25505 16.7mm driver that I sanded down to fit.

I see from the picture your pill doesn't have the included brass ring installed. How did you wire the negative pole?

That would have saved me some time, but more importantly I could have used a full sized driver, like maybe one of yours 8-)

For custom modes just read this thread.

I haven't seen the 18650 version of this in a do it yourself model.

The negative grounds through the outer edge of the driver when you press it in to the pill.

Quick google search turned up...

This one...

and

this one too...

Obviously the same photos with different water marks.

If anyone buys this light please give us a review or something.

The X1 is cheaper at Manafont:

But that host isn't that well made. I've had problems with the switch and the threads aren't that great. My review:

I wound up using the light as a host for a neutral XP-G. It works, but the switch is annoying. And the XR-E reflector isn't great for the XP-G.

I ordered this AA/14500 kit and may put a Nichia 219 LED in it (also have a Ultrafire C3 stainless on the way; honestly I'd rather put the Nichia in my Sunwayman V10).

And WOW .

Firefly to 3.55 AMPS .

Just an awesome pocket rocket .
