From the pictures and specs, that’s the super-rare 18650 version! It’s the one that I found on EBay years ago marketed as “Aleto N8”. Had lots of fun modding it to be shorter and adding a sideswitch and fresnel lens. Got carried away shortening it actually, and one I modded I managed to take off nearly 2 cm of length, while still having a functional zoomie with electronic side switch.
The AA/14500 version of this light is super-common, but the 18650 version is almost impossible to find.
Why I like it:
Best 18650 pocket zoomie for modding in my opinion
Very compact for an 18650 zoomie and with a narrow pocket-friendly bezel
Heat sink fins on the body tube giving this light better heatsinking that virtually all other ultra-compact 18650 zoomies.
Easy to mod (like any budget zoomie).
Cheap - so if you do screw up on a mod you aren’t out a lot of money.
The 4 I got from EBay years ago were the only ones I ever found. And then it disappeared and hasn’t been seen in years.
Yeah… 50 of them is too much. Still… that comes out to less than $7 per light. If someone wants to setup a group buy for a lot, I’d buy maybe 5 of these.
This light - PeetPen C60 - is similar to the Wuben L60.
It is the PeetPen brand, and is related to Wuben and product produced by their factory. This is a more budget flashlight. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000292823189.html
And this flashlight is probably a blast from the past, if one takes into account this thread: Review: Yezl T8X MK II Raptor
The flashlight is the YAGE YG-318C, and resembles the Yezl mentioned on Foy’s thread, and also the On The Road Z821
I believe the quality will probably be inferior, as the price difference is is huge, but…we can always take a look at it https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32706398683.html
You’re welcome.
I’m happy to see my finding put to some use.
Looks like my mistake…it doesn’t seem to be a zoomie…
But yeah, sealing at the TIR bottom seems unusual.
They replied that they do only wholesale. I asked for MOQ. Maybe they’ll sell less than 50…
If someone wants to make a GB I’m in for one.
BTW I’ve seen a variant with USB port twice already. In both cases the sellers failed to ship. It’s the first time that I see the one without port offered for sale.
I really liked that i3 mentioned above so I sought a different source, hoping that it would be cheaper. I failed at that but I found some more info. Later I noticed it’s a twisty…which kills it for me. :person_facepalming: Anyway here are my findings, maybe someone will find them interesting:
I like side switch zoomies and want to see more, better ones. The one below did 72 kcd stock, now does 700 kcd running Anduril, controlling the green and blue LED's:
I’m looking for a zoomie host advice. I want a new camping light with warm LED and Andruil.
What I need is:
21700 or 18650 or 26650 (in this order)
perfectly smooth flood with sharp cutoff
overall at least fair quality
e-switch
smooth push-pull
fairly modable so I can have Andruil in it
at most 170x55 mm
not very expensive, I’m not buying a Led Lenser even if it’s a perfect option
Within the limits above I want something somewhat compact for the cell it accepts and the lens diameter it has. I know I can’t expect too much as most zoomies are awfully huge and junk quality.
What looks promising is Lumintop Zoom1. It is said to have a flood beam that matches my needs. Quality is way above my minimum. Compactness is good. It doesn’t focus well but that’s OK and may actually open some interesting possibilities like quad die emitter.
But I don’t know if it’s reasonably possible to turn it to Andruil.
Maybe someone can share some insight on it?
The other light that comes to my mind is Wowtac A3S. Vinh mods it with his drivers so I assume it’s doable. Considering that it has a smaller cell, smaller lens and aspheric instead of TIR it’s quite a bit larger than Zoom1 but definitely not bad. Quality is said to be top notch.
I’ve read that it has very thick o-rings which make zooming very stiff. It’s a deal breaker unless I can fix it. But I assume replacing them with something looser is an option…
Sorry, don't have the Zoom1 - was turned off for some reason, not sure. I got a couple A3's and could not get the bezel off - think I tried my pine board method that has worked on everything else. It's been a while. Not sure of anything else - got cheaper zoomies, 18650, think couple are quite moddable.
On a similar vein, I’m also looking for a high-cri/warm flaslight with a led lenser style focusing and Anduril. I have a led lenser MT10 which came with an angry blue emitter. I’ve disassembled the head and looked at the pillar and tiny MCPCB and considered the best way to swap it with a warm led. I’ve only swapped emitters on lights that are easy to mod, so I’m still debating whether to attempt it on the MT10 with my limited skill. But even if I succeed, I still have no clue on how to deal with the crappy UI. So, I’ve left the light alone for now and looking for a good host instead. The search continues…
