[4K Review] IMALENT MS03 - 13000 lumens, World's Brightest EDC

I tried getting a 40T working with it today but even with some pretty big spacers it was still too short. I think an 8mm spacer might do it but the resistance might become an issue.

I don’t advocate the use of spacers tbh.

Did you try to measure current?
I did, burnt my fingers. My UT210E wasnt able to measure it on Turbo

Nope.

Some suggestions:

  • Install larger springs at the head and tail. Use low-resistance Be-Cu springs, or wire-bypassed steel springs. If using wire bypass on the spring at the driver, make sure to place the wire inside the spring. That way if the solder gives out and the wire becomes loose, it should be trapped by the spring and is much less likely to cause a dead short.
  • Use a spacer - you can make a simple spacer with some sheet copper. Cut a 1 cm wide strip of copper, then fold it into a 4-sided box. Place this spacer between the back of the light and the tailcap (safer than putting the spacer at the front of the light). You can make the spacer better by soldering it together, and maybe soldering a button top to it for better connection to the base of the cell.

Mine are being shipped any day now. Meanwhile, I am getting an idea of how this light compares to others in its size and 21700 fuel supply and power class. Compared to NSX53: much less throw and much more close in flood, and the cell is usb c chargeable. Compared to TM9K: similar floodiness, but the cell is not user inaccessible. Compared to FW21 Pro: side instead of rear electronic switch, and probably has more heat sinking. There are other differences between these four 21700 lights, so each of them can have their own place in this class of flashlights.

The two Imalent MS03 arrived a few hours ago, along with the extra long original Imalent protected usb-c cells, and four solder blob unprotected 21700 cells, and two VP8 chargers to charge the six longer cells and have digital readout.

The very first impression: Very nice quality box, not just plain cardboard. The first impression is important, and since the box is very high quality, it provides an initial quality impression.

Something different: The bezel. The bezel is too different to figure out, but it is working great, if it even is a bezel.

The tail cap says "Built in 21700 battery", but I think it should say: "User removable usb-c extra long protected battery included", if it has to say anything at all about the battery at that location.

Weight: Feels perfect. Not too heavy. Feels light weight, but does not feel too light weight

Size: Worlds smallest triple XHP70.2 reflectored light!

Small white room ceiling bounce check yields what I like.

I am going to use this light in normal modes for normal runtime and normal heat management, but it is nice to have maximum turbo for brief burst to light up a large area brightly for a brief time, to get a quick, bright, large area scan.

I attached size comparison pic of this light with five other lights in another dimension of the world wide web, so I will clench my jaws and whiten my knuckles to avoid cross-posting the pic here.

I really do like the overall feel and looks and performance of this exciting hot rod. In a few more hours, when flashlight time dawns, I will be enjoying the thrill of what one of these in each hand provides.

Everyone complaining about the Imalent 21700 battery being too long should know the Acebeam & Fenix 21700 batteries are the same size.
Yes the Acebeam & Fenix 21700 batteries work in the Imalent MS03.

IMALENT’s latest response to the Turbo red light problem:

“because we put glue to seal the head and battery tube, when it is not dry, we started to test them on turbo, so the glue melted and loosed the body, but we didn’t realised before
If people who want to solve the problem themselves, just need to take off the body, clean the glue and make it tight”

That explains why the tube came off easy but left glue residue

Samsung 40T with solder blob powered up the lights, but turbo red light problem with both of my MS03 and all four of the 40T blob top cells. Clean up glue at seal between head and tube and tighten did not solve the problem. Also, I had difficulty getting the extra long Imalent cells to power up the lights, even with tightening both the head and tail by hand as tight as I could. I removed the white plastic that was protruding from the positive button of the Imalent cells with a razor blade, and that solved both problems: the turbo red light problem and the difficulty with getting contact to power the lights were both solved. I can use the solder top cells in my other 21700 lights.

Just to make sure I can follow: Are we talking about heating up the tube and unscrewing it from the head?

Thanks for sharing this tip… i was pretty upset on the turbo red light issue as well, also the light cant seem to ramp up to level 4 after i use Turbo.

I went out for a night walk and was met with some light rain. Used the MS03 in the rain, Pretty cool until this morning, i saw this:

!

Imalent MS03

!

I contacted Imalent Support, they told me to wait for a few hours to see if the moisture is still showing, if so I have to send it back for repair or replacement.
What a bummer.

Just cleaning off the glue, it doesn’t work, I still get the red light.

I have tried this and I can confirm that it hasn’t worked, I still get a red light and I think you will too if you keep playing with the MS03.

Bummer, I wanted to get this flashlight… why is Imalent so unreliable…

Tbf, I’ve ever had an issue with IMALENT until the disappointing LD10 “keychain” light and MS03.

I did not experience any problems with my MS03, the only thing is that you’ve gotta be careful where to place it doing current testing.
It actually does over 30A and it does get HOT!

Amaretto just posted his comprehensive and valuable review in the German forum. He did not mention the red light turbo phenom.

My MS03 also has the red light issue, not often but randomly. I haven’t tried the glue or white ring removal tip yet.

Update:

Contacted Imalent, they will send a replacement for me once they received my shipment with the moisture soaked unit.
In the meantime, i will use my Lumintop FW21 pro, which is pretty rad.
