WTB: Jetbeam RRT01 – Any place to buy it?! + [RRT01 2019 discussion]

Well that’s what replacement reflectors are for.

The original RRT-01 and TCR-01 came with a smooth reflector that produced a horrible ringy beam. They partially fixed this problem by converting to an OP reflector in later runs of the original RRT-01 and in the Niteye EYE-10.

When I modded mine, I swapped both the emitter and reflector. A new reflector made a world of difference… no more rings.

Afaik there is no drop in reflector for last year’s model. The old ones do not share any parts.

Wish they slimmed this one down, it’s even heavier

Actually the reflector I installed in my original version RRT01 did not drop in either. Had to do a bit of hand filing to make it fit.

Regarding weight: the 2019 version is significantly heavier than the 2013 version. I think most of this extra weight is due to the choice to use a brass rather than aluminum pill.

I assume the 2020 version is basically a 2019 version with an added tail switch. As such it should be the heaviest of the bunch.

Thanks for checking and letting us know, very happy mine will have the 219C then.

yes, but the 2020 RRT-01 gives the people who want an 18650 tube, another option. (plus a tailswitch for those that like that option)

Im waiting for someone that has both the 2019 and 2020, to confirm whether the 2020 adapters for 18650 work with the 2019 version…

because you want 18650 with no tail switch?

Im still happy with the Original RRT-01, and they are still available

I dont plan to buy the 2019 or 2020 versions, but I do recommend them, for someone interested in the StepLess Rotary experience, if they choose not to buy the Original RRT-01.

The 2019 has the advantage of being able to use Protected 18350, that dont fit in the Original.
otoh, the 2019 is fatter and heavier… but it works fine…

The 2020 adds a tailswitch, and other battery types, presumably including AA Eneloop, for the prepper in me… LOL

This is a very good time to be a Stepless Rotary buyer. We have new options that span the rotaries of yesteryear, including shades of the Sunwayman V10a and V11r, plus the RRT-01.

Trivia
the 2019 model has strobe
it is the same driver as in a NiteEye Eye10
I like it, they are available separately, and they fit the Original too.

the advantages of the Original include, smaller, lighter, and there is a reflector upgrade available for use with 219b, thanks to moderator007.

Specific details on the replacement reflectors for the Original in this post.

I wonder if the 2019 driver is the same size as the 2013 driver.

I like the 2013 version, but after using lights like the FW3A, D4V2 and Imalent LD70 I’ve gotten used to power. After you’ve gotten used to 4000 lumens it’s hard to back to 500.

The drivers are indeed the same size and interchangeable.

If you mean 2019 model RRT-01 and original model RRT-01, yes they are the same size. New model has a higher output with its lower value current limiting resistor and added strobe, s.o.s. modes.

I have put the new model drivers in almost all my older RRT-01’s and the TCR1. I think I even had one older model RRT-01 that came (NIB) with the new style driver.

Is it possible to buy the 2019 RRT-01’s driver separately from Jetbeam?

Yes, they’re contact info is somewhere in this thread. Same contact for the short clips jon_slider has posted here somewhere.

info@jetbeamlight.com guys. Be gentle, they are nice and helpful.

Does anyone know if the 2020 driver is in any way improved over the 2019 driver?

Also, the original RRT01, is it 2012 or 2013? I have seen both.

I call the Original the 2012 version, because of the date of this review

and the date of this video

somebody should ask Jetbeam for confirmation

I asked Jetbeam about temp control and lvp, and they said this: “The light has temperature control technology. We do not suggest you use the flashlight together with the unprotected li-ion battery.”

Silly question maybe, but one has to ask it: If the original takes 18350 and even the driver of the 2019 version - why isn’t Jetbeam able to reproduce the format? They’re all getting smaller, just not the RRT01. Is it misplaced in the EDC market? The 2019 is not only bigger, it’s more fragile with its paper thin battery tube. This is a step backward.

I agree these choices are Unheard of

Any word on whether the 2020 version has LVP? Need to pick up some new cells if it doesn’t.

Mine shipped, it’s a safe bet it doesn’t though since it includes this USB battery.

Also, vinh added it to his site and he lists a “tail stand mod” as an option for modding. I seriously cannot believe after all this time manufacturers cannot get their shit together to make a light tail stand out of the box. :person_facepalming:

My RRT01 and RRT03 arrived (both 2020 editions). Both are the neutral white Nichia versions.

First impressions:

  • RRT01 has a perfect beam pattern with nice tint. No rings or artifacts in the beam. Reflector is light orange peel.
  • RRT03’s main beam also has a fairly nice beam pattern. Floodier and less throwy. However, the aux LED beam pattern is as expected pretty bad since its coming up through the gap between the optics.
  • I haven’t double-checked, but it looks like the RRT03’s optic might be a Carclo 10507. There is a glow gasket under the optic
  • The rings in both lights are very smooth. Smoother than the 2019 RRT-01’s ring. The RRT03 has detentes at each setting. The RRT01 has no detentes at all. The rings in both lights feel great. However if you plan on using the RRT01 in standby mode (switch always left on and only use the ring to turn on and off the light), there is a chance the ring might turn on in the pocket.
  • RRT01 will dim all the way to off using just the ring and not using the button.
  • RRT03 is not infinitely variable. It has 3 brightness settings plus disco-mode aux LEDs.
  • Dimmest main LED setting on the RRT03 is still quite bright. Closest thing to a moonlight it has is the red aux LED.
  • Aux leds in RRT03 have the option to have red, green or blue on as a solid color. Or you can have the flashing. To get to aux led mode, move the ring one notch past high. Changing aux led settings is controlled with the forward clicky using off-time memory. If you don’t leave the light off for several seconds between turning off and on in aux led mode, you’ll probably advance to the next color or blinky option in the aux LED sequence.
  • The extension tubes that come with the new RRT01 and RRT03 work perfectly with the 2019 RRT01.
  • Head is about the same width as the 2019 version and like that light contains a brass pill. For 18350 lights these are not tiny.
  • Tailstanding - works but is slightly wobbly. Inserting an extra o-ring between the rubber boot and the switch mechanism should fix this.
