WTB: Jetbeam RRT01 – Any place to buy it?! + [RRT01 2019 discussion]

I read earlier that previous versions of RRT01 support AA batteries. Is this still true?

Some additional information from testing these lights today:

  • My guess is the RRT01 2020 uses the same driver as the 2019 version. Driver operation appears identical.
  • 2020 RRT01 runs fine on AA. I tested it with a 1.3v Eneloop Pro and it worked.
  • RRT03 does not work on AA. It has a different driver and only works on li-ion.
  • 2020 RRT01 head is compatible with 2019 RRT01 body.

Thank you so much for answer that question.

congratulations!

and thanks for the first field report
you answered a lot of questions for us

So do I buy a few protected 18500s and use 1 extension per light or use the stock 18350 and protected 18650 on one. Decisions, decisions

Buy AA Eneloops and give the triple to Granni?

endless possibilities… lol

Thanks for the info!

Does it get as low as the 2019 model? And if it is on high, does it step down once it heats up?

Oh, and can you figure out what the hole in the control ring is for?

Stock battery is a 700mAh 16340. IMHO protected 1200mAh 18350 is the best choice for this light since it’s already pretty long and shorter length seems like it would make being able to manipulate both the ring and tail switch easier. Can’t say that from experience since mine isn’t here till the 29th though.

The highest cap 18500s I’ve seen are only ~2000mAh or less, doesn’t seem worth it to me.

Good points about ring and switch. Shorter does seem better.

2200mAh is good but not protected. Guess it’s not necessary but nice for this light.

Stock battery on new one is an 18350 already according to site so that’s a nice upgrade from last year.

Oh nice, I missed that. Lists the turbo runtime as 35min vs 25 from the 2019 model so must be higher cap than 700mAh too.

If the extensions work for 2019 model - shouldn’t the 2019 head fit the 2020 tube then?

Yes. Just like the 2019 or 2012 version…. you can turn the control ring and get a gradual smooth dimming all the way until you can barely see the emitter is lit when staring directly into it from close range.

Appears to do nothing as far as I can tell. The RRT01 has the hole in the ring but the RRT03 does not.

Yes, the 2019 head fits and works with the 2020 body tube.

Protected 18350 are to long for the rrt-01 2019 version. Do they fit in 2020 version?

Thanks Firelight, means the weak spot of the 2019 model, its paper thin tube, can be fixed!

I don’t have any protected 18350, but they should have no trouble fitting.

The 18350 that the new 2020 RRT-01 and –03 comes with, includes a built-in USB port and charging circuit. It’s much longer than my Aspire 1100 mAh 18350 and is probably longer than any protected 18350 cell.

The overall light is pretty big for an 18350 light. Especially so for the RRT-01 which is slightly longer than the RRT-03 due to the longer reflector. In 18350 configuration the new RRT-01 is about the same size as an FW3A with 18650 tube.

Is there anywhere we can purchase the new 18650 extension tube?

Do AA cells rattle around in there or do they provide an adapter?

Nealsgadgets

My first-gen RRT01 will run on AA/NiMh voltage, however I don’t have any body tube that supports that size cell. Maybe one can be adapted from another Jetbeam light.
