What blade did you EDC today?

Got it from White Mountain Knives. https://whitemountainknives.com/

The Texel is a really nice knife. I finally got a black one after getting my hands on a spare black back spacer to match it. Being a humid summer though, I probably won’t do the swap and start carrying it until Fall.

Given the excellent results of your lavender Feldspar, I’d love to see a pink Texel. I’ve been on the hunt for cheap Jade G-10 to practice my dye skills with your method.

Thank you for the compliment on my lavender job. Looks like it might be a while until the local Michael’s craft store will have pink DyeMore in stock.

75mm Higonokami.

The blade is coated with lube to inhibit rust, so it doesn’t look pristine. Plenty sharp.

Yeah, seems there’s many sites offering that discount at the same time. But White Mountain has no minimum for free shipping… and of course, it sold out there. :person_facepalming:

I seen the jade Texel on Amazon, as well, with free shipping. But it showed limited stock, six on hand I believe. It’s $52 like most retailers, too.

Today I EDC-ed a new knife, a Fox Livri with micarta scales, and like it a lot. It is a small slipjoint knife, lightweight (linerless) and so modest that I can use it everywhere without raising eyebrows but it is M390 steel and razor sharp.

How are you getting on with the weight? It comes in at about 3.5oz, which is a full 1.1oz lighter than the similar WarWolf by Bestech (3.5” blade vs. 3.23” on Texel).

I had a Bestech WarWolf in color tan. I dyed the scales red, but I have since given it away to a member here. I do remember the WarWolf being a little bigger in hand, fitting my large sized hands nicely. While the Texel is comfortable in my large hands, but it is the smallest size knife I would feel comfortable carrying. It’s lighter than the WarWolf, but it is every bit as solid feeling. Very nice knife.

Both knives have excellent pivot actions. I think the lighter weight Texel blade allows for the deployment to fly open with a little more authority. A very satisfying snap when flipped open.

Dyed the natural jade scales a tropical teal color last night. I bought the Rit DyeMore from Amazon.

^ Looks great! I really like that coloration. These newer photos really show off the result well. How many seconds did you soak the scales?

Forty seconds. And that’s because I didn’t put as much dye in the water as I usually do.

A couple months ago there was a sale on several bestech folders and I was one of the lucky few to grab a bestech dolphin for $65, they were out of stock but it finally shipped. I’ve been carrying mine for a week now and this is easily the smoothest framelock I have ever used, incredible value and best $65 I’ve spent on knives.

As you can see I gave it a new edge because it came pretty dull.

Looks like you put a mirror edge on it. You have mad skills! Awesome!!

The moire on the second photo makes it look like the knife has a serrated edge. Weird!

I used the Ruxing pro 008 guided sharpening system and a very affordable set of bonded diamond stones: Venev dog priced just at $17 for the 4 grit set. It works magic on hard steels but tops out at 800 grit, it is not as insanely sharp as I could get with a 1200 grit aluminum oxide stone but very close with a still hazy but somewhat polished edge. It will shave but won’t be splitting hair. Highly recommended stone if you own a guided sharpening system that takes 4” stones. There is a slight recurve in the blade due to the undersized finger choil, I wish it had been 2mm wider so it can fully clear the grind convex.

That’s not moire, that’s the carbon fiber mat reflection in the mirror polished blade edge. :open_mouth:

How did you get such a great deal? Usually these go for $192 and up.

Just like the flashlight industry there is a great profit margin with knives, but the only reason MAP and MSRP is enforced a lot more is because knives are highly collective and people tend to be more willing to pay full price. (Chinese) brands knows this, so they only allow distribution to overseas to “authorized dealers”.

Good thing is knives prices are dropping in price fast as American companies scale up production with innovative design selling at a fraction of what they used to charge 3 or 4 years ago. Naturally, most Chinese companies will follow.
