NIGHTWATCH NSX3 9900lm 21700 LED Flashlight NS53A 6500K 9900lm

I ordered from NeilsGadgets but haven’t got a shipping number so I suppose he will be waiting on a load coming in before he ships. It doesn’t say out of stock anywhere but that doesn’t mean much with Neil.

I wish we, as a community, would crack down on these stupid Chinese putting out “next mode memory” and other crap lights. That’s why I don’t buy anything without two switches or some kind of electronic switch to properly assign activation.

I am impressed from that light and want it :money_mouth_face: The problem is which model to choose XHP50.2 6500K or SST40-5000K, i preffer NW but xhp model have great WOW effect which is nice. But in practice I also need to have some bright and compact flood light with decent throw maybe around 200 meters which can deliver 2-3k lumens for longer time. The NSX seems to have good body heatsinking for that. I want to used it on my bike for MTB in nights in hot summer. Mybe I will make it my own driver with bistro. Also because I also waited for FW21pro or new triple Astrolux with XHP50.2 the reasonable choice maybe will be SST40 variant. What do you think about that?

I would take what I can, when I can, when I can still get it. I ordered four of these red hot screamers from my USA suppler a few months ago, received one, absolutely love its red hot screaminess, but the other three have not yet arrived. He told me I can receive a refund, but I’m just politely and patiently waiting. When the other triple XHP 50.2 lights that you mention are ready to order, I will order them. Same with any other single 21700 triple XHP50.2 that may be offered.

I have the xhp50.2 version and while very impressive, it gets hot FAST

I never really paid attention to this light but looks like it would make a great host.

Anyone know the driver size?

I would avoid it. Parts are unobtainable, switch is a reverse clicky, the threads at the head are poor and grind constantly requiring cleaning and relubing often.

I wrote a review on this light here: Nightwatch NSX3 (NS53A version) Flashlight Review – Dave's Tech Reviews

The threads on mine are OK, especially at the tail. I lock it out at the tail end all the time and it’s fine. I’ve only unscrewed the head end a couple of times to have a look.

It’s thick and solidly built but I’d prefer an e-switch version over the reverse clicky.

I have the NSX43 version and would love to buy the 53 version with 9,900 lumens because of the nice heat dissipation in a very small size. I don’t know any other light ( judging by the 6000 lumen NSX43) of similar size / head diameter that would maintain the highest output Of 6,000 lm for as long as this one does.
This is why I want the 9900 version also but here is my problem : there is a few things I hate about the light:

1) when you turn it on it starts with turbo and then toggles down to low- I think it’s ridiculous - you have to start with this blinding powerhouse just to get to the lower level. The sequence should start from the low and work its way up

2) Not possible to change any setting which might have been ok but the modes are spaced out so ridiculously - low and medium are too low ( less than 1000 lumens) and high is too high ( about 3.5-4,500 lumens) and turbo is 6000lm. Nothing in between; something sustainable like 1.5-2,000 lumens level would be nice. I don’t know what modes the 53 has but 4 levels only for a light that goes to 10,000 lumens has to be insufficient and spaced out wrong .

There is some other things subpar but If only they could change these two things I would spring to buy the NSX53.

Does anyone know how to contact the manufacturer or a dealer who can ask if these changes can be implemented?

Thanks

The new 53(A) has a star you can solder to change it from: low-med-brighter-high, double tap turbo/triple tap strobe,
to: turbo- High-med-low, double tap strobe.

Both modes have mode memory so the new version does not start on turbo.

Thank you. I am a bit confused though. Are you saying the stock sequence now is low-med-brighter medium-high with a double tap for turbo? Because the description I read before said it goes down from turbo. Do you know the lumen levels for each of these levels?
Do the ones sold on the Nealsgadgets site have this sequence built in?

Not sure what You said I need to solder to reverse it, but if this is already the preindtalled sequence, that’s what I would want…
Thanks!

The NS53A I bought from Neal in December which he said was the updated model does that. There are two mode groups and you switch between them by bridging/unbridging a star shaped metal piece on the driver.

Ok great thanks!
Do you know by any chance if the nsx43 can be reversed in the same manner by re-bridging the star?

I ran some runtime graphs using an integrating cereal box and the Android Ceiling Bounce app (thanks Zak!) The numbers won’t be the most accurate but it’s interesting to see how quickly turbo and high step down.

I’ve added high and medium runtime graphs to my full review over here: Nightwatch NSX3 (NS53A version) Flashlight Review – Dave's Tech Reviews (scroll down lots).

There’s an NSX4 with four emitters coming! The head is a bit wider at 44mm.

So there is. 13000 lumens.

I haven’t seen a 26800 cell before. Here’s some info on them: Queen Battery QB26800 6800mAh 20A - the big guy! | Endless Sphere

239g compared to the NSX3’s 167g is quite a bit heavier though.

And I waited 3 weeks Neal to send me any model from NSX3 line :person_facepalming: I ordered NS43 but it is out of stock for 3 weeks and now today I write to him to send me replacement with NS53A version. And now I see there is new model :open_mouth: What do you think I maybe write to him just to send me new model over NS53A variant. What do you think it is good idea? I waited almost month for SST40 version and think if new one which to be SST40 or XHP50.2. These lights needs better spaced drivers. The host is very good indeed. I see that XHP50.2 is very expensive compared to SST40 variant. It will be interested to have mixed SST40 XHP50.2 variant. Why they make 26800, to exotic size. Also shipment of battery maybe will be problematic to some countries.

Can you please tell the bezel pressing the glass glued or can I unscrew it?

You can unscrew it. I have disassembled my 53A many times

Thank you!
