Yeah, mine’s been stuck in NJ since last Sunday. Newgistics, the state-side e-commerce courier that Sofirn is using, stated on their site that their volume is up significantly because of Covid. I’m in NC, and even e-commerce would usually be here by now from NJ. Oh, well. Just gotta wait.
Thank you guys for posting your fantastic comet pictures, with or w/o C01R! :THUMBS-UP: I have not been able to see the comet myself so far as mostly the sky was covered with clouds. Meanwhile, my C01R has arrived, too. I will of course also share my impressions here a.s.a.p..
BTW: I‘m happy to tell you that there are plans to launch another (hopefully) interesting EDC using deep red light. Please stay tuned... ;-)
I really hope they will soon adopt the new UI on the C01S driver (the one that runs SST20 4.000K 95CRI). So far, I have not received any news if and when this might happen. However, the next iteration of C01S with Nichia E21A is meant to be using the new 3-modes / 2-mode groups UI of C01R as it maybe uses the C01R driver designed for LEDs with very low Vf.
I placed my EBay order for a few Sofirn flashlights on July 3rd (incl. the C01R). The package arrived only 17 days later. Not bad for a parcel that originated in China and travelled all the way to the U.S. during this pandemic.
The C01R packs quite a lot of light for a tiny 1 x AAA flashlight. I’ve already put it to good use a couple evenings this week photographing Comet Neowise. I mostly used the flashlight on its lowest “moonlight” setting (0.5 lm) with a diffuser dome and hung it around my neck with a length of paracord. (The diffuser dome came free with my other purchase of a C01S).
The low soft red light helped me maintain my night vision while allowing me to change settings on my camera or as an aid during lens changes.
Very pleased with this Sofirn flashlight. It is my first Sofirn order, but certainly won’t be my last. Thank you, Lux-Perpetua, Barry/Sofirn and all others involved for carrying this project through!!
I don’t know. Got this link from someone here or over at TLF, don’t remember. Search for the dimensions, they should pop up somewhere else in the world.
ZL H502pr arrived today after almost a 2 month wait due to a lack of flights between Shanghai and Australia.
Sofirn C01R arrived within a few weeks.
Here are some amateur side-by-side photos:
H502pr set to 0.003 lumen and Sofirn C01R on it’s lowest mode:
H502pr at 1 lumen and Sofirn C01R on it’s lowest mode:
It’s that bloody cat again!
Sofirn C01R highest mode:
H502pr highest mode 100 lumens:
C01R is a nice little thrower while the H502pr is very floody without much throw beyond a few metres. I was pretty sure that the H502pr UI would be much better than the twisty C01R, but I had overlooked that the ZL has the older UI. There’s a risk that I could accidentally click to High while trying to long press for sub-lumen.
After not noticing that Sofirn sell diffusers the first time around, Unheard mentioning a honeycomb lens, wandering down the d-c-fix film rabbit hole, and then oweban mentioning Orange C01S…. I decided to order another C01R, a diffuser and an Orange C01S. Sofirn have already shipped!
